Why Still Folks Will Not Follow Paul?

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;
but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
II Timothy 4:3

This is a general outline of what I preached on - I have my grandson visiting and so have been not able to make anything but outlines... :-)

I. Why People Can Not Endure the Sound Doctrine of Paul!

Haven't seen the whole picture yet!
To them, GAIN is godliness! It builds churches, sells programs, builds God's kingdom on earth.
It is great business - a great money maker! There is a love of money involved here!
Don't know Rightly Dividing! Probably never heard of it!
If taught RD, not completely, though!
Leave all their 'learning' and studying up to the pastor to do it for them!
It's all about Jesus, not Paul!
No final authority in the Book - See Matthew 7:29
False Salvation keeps the understanding potential shut down!
Their own understanding comes from man's teachings, not rightly dividing!
The times we are in - the latter times!
Great pretenders!
Religious
They enjoy (pridefully) their thinking that they are holy and devout!
Friends and family more important to them than the truth to follow!
Rigid in their church teachings!
They are having 'good times' in their church finally!
Paul is so against the 'norm!'

II. Why People Who Say They Understand Paul Still Can Not Endure Paul's Writings for Sound Doctrine!

Not patient to wait for other pieces to fall into place in their 'jigsaw' picture!
Haven't heard it all yet - not enough - missed sermons - only read the sermon outlines, missed the preaching!
Haven't studied it for themselves!
Too busy!
Think the world is so bad, there is no point now!
They think increase is their problem!
Still wonder with some shame - in this church history, pastor's image in the community, more changes? They just can't grasp the way of God more perfectly!
Too simple for them!
They still haven't gotten over their Bible education!
Not as 'fun' as the GC churches their friends attend!
Can't get a crowd with it!
So against the norm - even of the KJB folks!
Little success in numbers!
No money in it!
Messenger's fault and in some cases, it could be. (too much, too fast, mumble, grumpy, too fast, etc. )
It's our choice, and if God won't gitcha, then what is the problem - just enjoy God's grace! (That is the hyper position)!
The flesh says NO!
It will drastically change the Great Commission program that all churches claim!
It will change your hymnbook! There are a lot of things that are not quite true in those 'great hymns.' Most hymns are about us anyway, and not about the Lord!
Stubborn!
You are more concerned about others than you getting a grip with Paul. You want them to get what you have, but you still don't know what you have!
You have been ecumenicalized!
You still don't know how to love the brethren!
You still don't know how to deal with the world!
You still don't know how to engage tough love!
You get clobbered and dragged down in your conversations, so you just blame your pastor - or Paul - or you just whine are a miserably frustrated. You know Paul's way is right, but you just don't know how to apply it. See the above reasons!
