What's In It For Us?
Part VIII
March 11, 2007

Continuing our "Old Testament" highlights as to what is in those books FOR us, even though there is nothing in those books TO us!  There are many Paulish churches that tend to ignore the OT.  That is a shame.  That is NOT God's design at all. II Timothy 2:16 says that ALL scripture.. that includes all 66 Books of the King James Bible.  While they are not all TO us, they are all FOR us!

A few left-overs from
Judges

I.  OT Manner of Life:

II. No king!
Every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
17:6 - In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
21:25 - In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

They were warned earlier
Deuteronomy 12:8,9 - Ye shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatsoever is right in his own eyes. For ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the LORD your God giveth you.
...NOT to do whatsoever is right in their own eyes - they have NOT come to their rest and inheritance yet!

It is not wise to what you think is right in your own eyes!
Proverbs 12:15
Proverbs 21:2
Proverbs 14:12  There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Proverbs 16:25: There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Paul reiterates it as well.
II Corinthians 10:12

Who/What is our king today that we should follow?

So, are we our own king these days?
  • No - we still have the KJB - if divided properly!
  • Teenagers, no king but themselves!
  • Wives today?
  • Men are their own but certainly nobody else's!
  • Even little children are taught to be their own king and queen!
  • Isaiah 3:5 - And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.
  • Isaiah 3:12 - As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them.  O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
  • III.  Old Testament carry-over concepts!
(you will notice them all through the OT as you read, now that you understand rightly dividing and the Jewish Gospel being taught even everywhere today)
  • In homes today - house of gods: 17:5 - And the man Micah had an house of gods, and made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.
  • Today's expectation from Christians: 17:10-13 - And Micah said unto him, Dwell with me, and be unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals.  So the Levite went in.  And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons. And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah. Then said Micah, Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.
  • Today's candlelight vigils, weeping and wailing and whining, etc. 20:26 - Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
  • Nun-talk - 17:2 - And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the silver is with me; I took it.  And his mother said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my son.
  • House of Micah - 17
  • Our desire today? - 18:10 - When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.  For some (many), they are getting their wish, heading for Revelation 3:18!
  • 19:30 - speak your mind
  • The story of the Levite and concubine - ghastly! - 19+ and the consequences
  • Wives for the Benjamites - interesting yet typical OT story, eh! - 21:12
