Judges - 12-17 - Samson
We
are continuing in Judges
from Part
VI...
12:3
- put your life in your own hands...
12:6
- framing your words - something many homeschool parents seem to ignore
in a lot of young kids - and it hurts them their whole life. "Oh,
I can tell you were home schooled..."
But
let's get to Samson - this is quite a story!
While we basically
will just read through the story and
throw in some
commentary as it comes along...
here are some
highlights I 'plan' on commenting on...
Chapter
13
The
Story of Samson

Israel did evil
again!

God delivered
them to the enemy!

40 years - test
time!

Clean eating 'before'
birth!

Nazarite - a boy
with long hair. Are our long haired men Nazarites today?

Try to tell that
to your husband and see how he would react!

Manoah thought
he was going to 'just' a man of God.

Parents - do you
still think the 'man of God' is the one with all the answers about what
to do unto the child that should be born?

He asks again!

Do you still ask
that question? Where does God want us to find that answer?
In a rightly divided KJB!

He truly wants
to lead that child right - but we certainly have to be careful in following
Manoah's lead here...

Manoah still didn't
know that his visitor was an angel of the LORD!

like a man, I guess - figured they would die now...

this one right!

Book! We have no reason to ever follow wrong advice!

Getting Samson
his wife!

(so, do you think
that would be good advice today - going to the world for a spouse - to
prove a point about truth, etc.?)

A lion, some bees
and a bunch of honey!

again, we see the Spirit of God suddenly working a work!

7 -
a wife pleasing her husband well! Such a thing, eh!

8,9 -
what a mess!

Scare his wife
to get her to turn against her husband!
16,17

She works him
over as only a woman could do!

Did Samson know
how they found out!

His heifer?????

He must have thought
they found it in the field...

A husband that
has no clue, eh!

Samson responded,
and boy did he respond!

He got the garments
all right!

The woman went
to Samson's companion.

See 15:1,2!

Typical soap opera
stuff, eh!

I wonder how Hollywood
would do this story?

Dad messing with
his son's life - making his decisions, etc None of his business!

Could this have
any reference to 14:4 as
to why he wanted her as his wife?

What a pay back
from the Philistines!

But Samson paid
back with a higher price!

They won't let
Samson have the last move!

Go to the brethren
- they will turn on Samson!

Now, we can sure
still see that today, eh!

but they won't do the complete job - just set him up for the kill!
14-17

However, God saw
it differently!

All with the jawbone
of an ass!

God does the same
thing today with the mouth of a dog!

Yes, I know -
the jawbone of an ass can have some meaning to, for some of us, eh!

Typical of God's
people in those days - Samson whines!

And also typical
of these days, God still "Nevertheless'ed" the situation!

Delilah - a truly
trustable woman who loved Samson dearly ... NOT!

Boy, can a wrong
marriage go against the guy or what!

These philistines
sure knew how to get to Samson! Through his woman!

For 11 hundred
pieces of silver! (more, if you read that slowly...)

First round goes
to Samson!
10-12

The gig is up
- he knows what she is trying to do!

She no longer
tries the entice routine, either!

Second round still
goes to Samson!
13-14
-
Now he just flat
plays the game!

Third round -
once again goes to Samson!

She wins this
one!

Goes for his heart
- challenges his 'love' for her!

She nags him almost
to death!

He gives in!
-
He gives all his
heart - and look where it gets him!

18 -
the knew this was 'the one' - they brought the money with them this time!

- the old head in the lap cuddle trick!

20 -
his confidence was a mistake - He didn't know that the Lord was departed
from him. But he should have - he knew his hair was his strength
- no, it was the Lord's strength in Samson!

the end for all
involved!
Ever
been 'had' by a woman - by your wife, daughter, female relative, etc.?
Did you give
her your heart and then did she take you down with it?
It happens
more and more these days...
-
divorces
-
at work
-
neighbours
-
in school
-
your friendly
woman friend
-
the wrong comment
to a woman today - sexual harassment!
-
telling people
your heart and getting burned later because of it!
-
etc.
This isn't the
last time this takes place in 'history!'
Remember Isaiah
3:12 - As for my people, children are their
oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead
thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Even Proverbs
4,5,6 could be good wisdom to consider
in this subject area!
What
can we learn from Samson today?
Before we criticize
Samson, we need to look at ourselves!
Yes, it could
still even happen to us today!
Galatians
6:1
Brethren,
if a man be overtaken in a fault,
ye which
are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness;
considering
thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
