the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:26

In the OT "FOR" Us?
Now all these things happened
unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition,
upon whom the ends of the
world are come.
I Corinthians 10:11
whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning,
we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
let's look through Malachi and see if we can see how God would tell us
in His words
that we have today with the days of Malachi.
Contempt for Temple Sacrifices
- God loved them, but they doubted His love
quoted in Romans 9:10–13
as applying to God’s choice of Jacob
instead of Esau (Genesis 25:22–34).
Malachi actually refers to the two nations
that sprang from Jacob and Esau,
The Israelites and the Edomites.
Both had been destroyed by the Babylonians.
Israel had been restored,
but Edom was still a wasteland.
verse 6 - They
despised the name of the LORD.
verse 7 - They
polluted His altar and yet didn't understand why God said it was polluted!
Today, people do what they do with their
'unknown God' and yet don't understand why the KJB would say what it says
about it all!
- Their offering of diseased
- lame and sick - animals, was
an insult to God.
They would not have dared to give as
a gift to their governor - 1:8.
How would you
act - how would you allow your kids to behave - how would you dress if
you went to some high office, fancy place, important or highly respected
person, etc. to visit?
How do we act
and behave AS we are the temple of God?
- grace based on their actions - "will he regard
Our grace is based on His actions -
and is sufficient!
12:9 - And he said unto me, My grace is
sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most
gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power
of Christ may rest upon me.
God sees us today
'not' based on our actions - but on our faith in Christ receiving the faith
- God had no pleasure in them!
We are to live for His pleasure - does
He have pleasure in you and your walk?
- So then they that are in the flesh cannot
please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that
the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ,
he is none of his.
- Having predestinated us unto the adoption
of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure
of his will,
- Having made known unto us the mystery
of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
2:13 - For it is God which worketh in you
both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
1:11 - Wherefore also we pray always for
you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all
the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
- God wanted His name great
among the Gentiles / heathen based on the testimony of His people.
to verse 14,
His name was dreadful among the heathen
verse 12 -
they profaned His offering.
They said the
table of the Lord was polluted!
They said His
meat and fruit was contemptible!
that deserves scorn, or disdain; despicable; mean; vile.
What do modern
Christians say about God's word?
What do KJB people
say about the KJB?
Greek above it
A few words...
Verse 13 -
It was all weariness to them!
they snuffed at
They brought that
which was torn, lame, sick for offerings.
Payback from God
Verse 14 -
cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and
sacrificeth unto the LORD a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith
the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.
What kind of testimony
do others have of 'truth' because of the testimony of the 'modern' Christian?
How about our
Do they not know
He paid it all - really ALL!
Do they not know
about His faith?
Do they not know
about His righteousness?
Priests, who had been ordained by God
to lead the people in righteousness (vv. 5–7), were responsible for this
They had become so debased, mercenary,
that the name “priest” had become a
word of contempt among the people.
Pastors today fit these descriptions!
Loose marriage morals (vv.
Jews were divorcing their wives to marry
This was a double sin, with disastrous
effects on the proper rearing of children.
Skepticism was at the root of their
religious indifference and their low morals.
Noticing that wicked nations were more
prosperous, the people were asking, “What’s the use of serving God?”
Do any of us ever wonder if all our
efforts are in vain or not?
A few pastors today
3:5 - For this cause, when I could no longer
forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have
tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
2:5 - That your faith should not stand
in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
We can not give
16:13 - Watch ye, stand fast in the faith,
quit you like men, be strong.
- And let us not be weary in well doing:
for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
3:13 - But ye, brethren, be not weary in
The Coming Day of the Lord
Malachi’s reply to their skepticism
is that the coming Day of Judgment will answer their taunts and will show
whether it pays to serve God.
John the Baptist - to prepare the way
- For this is he that was spoken of by
the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
- For this is he, of whom it is written,
Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way
Mark 1:2 -
As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy
face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Mark 1:3 -
voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
Luke 1:76 -
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt
go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
Luke 3:4 -
As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying,
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
Luke 7:27 -
is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,
which shall prepare thy way before thee.
Withholding tithes was called “robbing
According to the Mosaic Law, one-tenth
of all income was God’s property, to which the donor had no more right
than he had to another man’s property.
- God’s promise of prosperity was to faithful tithers and the challenge
to test the validity of His promise.
16:1-3 - Now concerning the collection
for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even
so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him
in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I
come. And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them
will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.
8:1,2 - Moreover, brethren, we do you to
wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; How
that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their
deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
Even Jesus said:
10:10 - ... I am come that they might have
life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
National Skepticism Again
The Jews did not believe God’s promise
They considered that money and effort
offered to God were wasted.
However, a Book of remembrance was written
of them that feared the Lord and that THOUGHT
upon his name. (vv.16-17).
- This passage shows the blessing given towards the faithful few, in a
time of general apostasy.
shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels;
and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Then
shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between
him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
The Coming Day of the Lord
This has to be Revelation
19, not referring to John the Baptist or his first coming.
Elijah is referred to in Revelation
11 with Moses - not just in Matthew concerning John the Baptist.
shall burn as an oven - vs
Sun of righteousness arise with healing
in his wings... - vs 2
tread down the wicked - vs
the great and dreadful day of the LORD

Used today in modern Christian 'program'
slogans - vs 6
And he shall
turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children
to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Note - even still
OT as Gospels is still OT!
OT finishes this
way and the NT starts this way.
