I Kings / II Chronicles
Solomon

David passes on the temple plans to his son.

I Chronicles 28:1-10 - David to the people about Solomon
I Chronicles 28:11-18 - the pattern - written by God

I Chronicles 29:1 - young and tender
I Chronicles 29:2,3 - David's offerings
I Chronicles 29:3 - his charge to the people
I Chronicles 29:9 - offered willingly
I Chronicles 29:10-13 - thanks from David
I Chronicles 29:14-19 - humble dad
I Chronicles 29:20-22 - to congregation / family
I Chronicles 29:28 - David dies in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour...


Solomon takes over!

He started our good -
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statues of David his father...
I Kings 3:3

He had possession of David's (dad's) throne!
He had stores of wealth!
He had divinely imparted wisdom and mental capacities
He had great love and high hopes for his people!
...however...
His life of gold ended up a shipwreck!
He failed with his own wisdom!

The throne should have gone to Adonijah - I Kings 2:13-25, but God gave it to Solomon!


A marvelous golden time for Israel!
David was a warrior, Solomon was a builder!
David made the kingdom, Solomon built the Temple!
This was the age of Homer, the beginning of Greek history.  Egypt and Assyria and Babylon were weak!
Israel was the most powerful kingdom in all the world!
Jerusalem was the most magnificent city on earth!
The Temple was the most splendid building on earth!
They came from all over the world to see...

Queen of Sheba
"the half was not told me - the wisdom and prosperity exceedeth the fame which I heard."

But his problem was with his women - I Kings 11:1-8
They turned his heart away - I Kings 11:9-13
He knows - he wrote about it - Proverbs 5-7
God stirs up his adversaries - I Kings 11:14-22; 23-25
It all ends!  I Kings 11:26-43

The Golden Age of Israel - done!
