What's
In It FOR Us?
Part XII

I Samuel 13-19
Saul
Continuing
our "Old Testament" highlights as to what is in those books FOR us, even
though there is nothing in those books TO us! There are many Paulish
churches that tend to ignore the OT. That is a shame. Not only
are they missing the completeness of the Scriptures, it is NOT God's design
at all. II Timothy 2:16 says that ALL
scripture.. that includes all 66 Books of the King James
Bible. While they are not all TO us, they certainly are all FOR
us!
OT Ensamples for us!
Paul even tells us to look to those
OT Scriptures for our ensample! I Corinthians
10:11 - Now all these things happened
unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon
whom the ends of the world are come.
I will say
it again, "We just continue to see more and more OT applications falsely
taught today during the time of Paul's gospel and the dispensation of grace!
review:
-
Thunderstorm's
don't work - they just cause damage - on your children, etc.
-
They just ride
them out - probably just makes them angry and more rebellious.
-
Saul didn't even
heed Samuel's storm warnings!
-
There are some
who can make good of the blessings of a thunderstorm (We
get nitrogen rich soil from lightening. The U.S. has the largest concentration
of thunderstorms in the world, and henceforth it has the richest soil in
the world. - Thanks for the comments, Brother Adams)
-
Can't do our own
offerings (13:12-14)
- God must provide Himself!
-
No smith - no
sword - 13:19-22
- just like today with all the publishers of Bibles - and then we see the
CBS News "Easter" Special on all the bibles today - presented by Nelson
Publisher.. Ya, like is the truth...
-
Make yourself
the kind of king you want - it won't work! 12:13-15
-
Old Testament
- the Spirit of God came and went.
-
Old Testament
- The LORD would even send an evil spirit!
-
Rebellion and
witchcraft go hand in hand! - 15:23
-
Stubbornness is
as iniquity and idolatry! - 15:23
-
I continue
to see more and more of how much of Old Testament flavour is being taught
TO us today in Bible Believing Christianity.
-
The Modern
Christians say they will have nothing to do with OT or Paul's Christianity
- their brand is from the Gospels - which is STILL Old Testament, they
just are not aware of that simple fact!
-
The Bible Believers
tend to hone in on Hebrews to Jude - which are books geared TO folks in
the future - the Tribulation.
-
There are plenty
of Pastoral and Parental Saul's these days. We ought to be very thankful
we don't have to deal with the same consequences that they did in the OT.
But don't forget, Christ took those consequences for us!
Saul
& David
14:24-46
Stupid
Ruling - caused hassles - wasn't from God, that is for sure!
-
no food?
-
distressed his
army
-
didn't work at
all
-
not in tune with
God - vs 37
- but sure made like he was...
-
Punished them
hard - vs. 33-35
-
Could actually
be used to justify rebellion and disobedience today unless you read it
all closely! However, Jonathan didn't know.
15
Saul and
the Amalekites
-
last weeks lesson
- another of Saul's mistakes
16
David arrives
on the scene - power of music
-
vs 1-3
- God asks Samuel to stop mourning over Saul and get busy with what he
needs to do!
-
Do not look on
the outside when you are picking a king!
vs 6,7
-
Here comes David
on the scene vs 11-13
-
Secretly already
blessed by God - vs 13
-
16:21 - And
David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and
he became his armourbearer.
-
16:14-23-
a music story that is falsely applied to today - the power of music!
-
cunning musician
-
not the normal
appearing musician
-
healed folks mentally,
spiritually and physically
-
But remember,
Saul did not have the Spirit of God!
17
Goliath
-
see NIV
- II Samuel 21:19
to see who 'really' killed Goliath!
18
Saul Jealous
of David
-
David behaved
wisely; People accepted David - 18:5, 14-16,
30
-
Saul eyed David
- 18:9, 11, 12-16, 21, 25, 29; 19:10, 15
-
18:10-14 -
Preaching
vs music - music won out - another wrong example if applied to today!
Evil spirit here was in the prophesying, not the music.
-
Bag of foreskins
to get a wife!
-
18:22-27
