Rightly
Divided Music
Comments on my visit to the Smithsonian
display, "New Harmonies - Celebrating American Roots Music."
These are statements that were on the various 'displays' in the "New
Harmonies" presentation. Listen to the audio for more of my return
comments.
Roots Music
-
Healing
-
Pentecostal mentioned for music examples
of "Christian."
-
It is the connecting force for America
-
Built on immigration (legal
- my comment)
-
It is America's cultural soundtrack.
-
Music is the magic that connects cultural
lines
-
Roots Music is an expression of American
diversity.
-
"African rhythm would soon have an
impact on American music."
Comes from
-
British Isles
-
Slaves
-
Europe blended in over time
Influence from British America
-
Bay Psalm Book
-
"...leaving little room for interpretation
or improvisation." (my comment - see how they criticize
this influence!)
Foundation of American music lies
in a religious yearning of:
-
Native Americans
-
Europeans
-
Africans
-
(my comment- Shem,
Ham, Japheth - but they won't admit it!)
Music is magic
-
connects cultural lines
-
crosses boundaries
Roots Music is an expression of American
diversity.
Blues - America's music?
-
"Blues is life's way of talking.
You don't sing to feel better; you sing cuz that's a way of understanding
life."
-
Not supposed to be that way for Christians!
American values: (these
are not what I was taught as American values!)
-
Freedom
-
Democracy
-
Diversity
Harmonica - Mississippi saxophone
All displays - ALL - had one thing
in common.
For Native Americans, music was their
communication with the 'Creator.'
Bill Monroe
-
father of bluegrass
-
(my comment - what a bum
of a human being - and he is thee example for our hillbilly gospel singing
families?)
Banjo
-
instrument originated in Africa
-
that says it all, eh!
On the audio sermon, you will hear me
make a few more comments concerning quotes from the "New Harmonies"
brochure.
We
Can Learn from Rightly Dividing Music
(should only have
to say 'from the Scriptures' but we are so far gone, folks can't!)
(rightly dividing
is only the beginning, not the end...)
Jesus said, Matthew
22:29 - Jesus answered and said
unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
And we know that even Jesus rightly
divided. See Luke 4:16-21 vs
Isaiah
61:1,2.
We can learn three things!
I. Today's 'religions' to
to the Old Testament for their music purpose, design and worship for examples
to follow!
-
God could be worshipped then - His presence
was in the fire / cloud/ tabernacle / temple / room, etc.
-
And yes, as ensamples (NOT examples)
we can learn from:
-
Moses - results don't prove something
is right!
-
Daniel - all kinds of music...
-
Amos - music to themselves and God not
hearing their music (noise of their viols)
-
David & Saul - the power of music
to the lost person!
-
Israelites in their praise, worship
and rejoicings.
-
History of three races - their music!
-
Shem, Ham, Japheth - Genesis
9
II. From
Acts 17:22-26, we "see" what is happening today concerning music.
-
Seducing spirits
-
Doctrines of devils
-
Replacing Bible
-
images
-
opinion
-
scholarship
-
flesh
-
all held together by music!
-
crosses boundaries
-
connecting force
-
Music is magic that connects cultural
lines
III. Where the country / churches
/ families / children to -are being prepared for - the antichrist - by
today's music in the churches!
-
Tribulation characteristics already
appearing today in the music in our churches.

Lasciviousness - I

Paul
Teaches Us How to Please God with Music
Based on Psalm
68:4...
I. Worship / Extol
-
Today, we can only worship God from
within ourselves - not with music and performances, etc.
-
Philippians
3:3 - For we are the circumcision, which
worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence
in the flesh.
-
Acts 17:24,25
- God that made the world and all
things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not
in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands,
as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath,
and all things;
-
Praise - To His name
-
Rejoice - Before Him!
Paul
Gives Us Five Scriptures!
1.
Romans 15:8-11
-
Praises / rejoice
-
rightly dividing Jews and Gentiles to
Laud!
-
laud - praise; commendation; an extolling
in words; music or singing in honor of any one. To praise in words
alone, or with words and singing; to celebrate!
2. I
Corinthians 14:7-10

truthful doctrine!
