To Be Recharged?
Part

Introduction
- May 23, 2007 - Accept Paul's Charges
Part
I - May 27, 2007 p.m. - War a Good Warfare
Interlude
sermon - May 30, 2007 - "Almost" Still "Isn't"
Part
II - June 3, 2007 a.m. - How Serious Do We Stand with Paul?
How
Seriously Are We Standing With Paul?
Can We
Heed Timothy and Titus?
We
say we are standing with Paul...
II Timothy
4:14-18
Do we
really stand with all of Paul?
-
Well, we know
that standing with Paul includes
Acts
as a transition and a good 'Life of Paul' series...
-
We know that Romans
is truly the doctrinal foundation of all true Christianity...
-
We know that the
Corinthians
church needs to hear what Paul has to say - and is also a good reminder
for us and carnality, etc...
-
We know that Galatians
is excellent when the 'law' folks need to hear from Paul...
-
We know that Ephesians,
Colossians, Philippians are great concerning
the riches of understanding and all that Christ did TO us, etc...
-
We know that Thessalonians
is great for what is coming in the future...
-
We know that the
story with Philemon
has a few good lessons in it to us, as well!
But do we really
know what to expect from Timothy
and Titus?
Paul
preached TO Timothy and Titus about what to preach and teach to us!
-
Those two were
considered by Paul to be his partners, fellowhelpers, workfellows, his
brothers and beloved sons after the common faith, fellowlabourers, ministers
of God as well as messengers of the churches - AND the glory of Christ
- so that they could comfort us concerning our faith!
-
II Corinthians
8:23; Titus 1:4; Romans 16:21; I Thessalonians 3:2; II Timothy 1:2.
If
we stand with Paul, we must also stand - AFTER - we hear Timothy and Titus!
We have
already heard the 'challenge' of being comforted from the book of Titus...
-
II Corinthians
7:6 - Nevertheless God, that comforteth
those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus.
-
II Corinthians
8:6 - But thanks be to God, which put the
same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.
-
And what a challenge
it is!
Now, how
about this guy named Timotheus?
-
I Corinthians
4:17 - For this cause have I sent unto
you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall
bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach
every where in every church.
-
ways -
Philippians 4:9
- Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and
seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
-
Philippians
2:19 - But I trust in the Lord Jesus to
send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort,
when I know your state.
-
It seems that
hearing Timotheus will put the people 'in a state' which would give Paul
comfort!
-
Are you interested
in being in a state that would be "comforting to Paul?"
-
Are you interested
in being in a state that would be agreeable with the Scriptures - the KJB,
rightly divided!
-
Paul was
actually preaching and teaching to Timotheus and Titus which in turn would
teach it to other men!
-
II Timothy
2:2 - And the things that thou hast heard
of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall
be able to teach others also.
-
Actually, I should
be able to preach and teach from Timothy
'without fear' as Timotheus was to be able to do! I
Corinthians 16:10 - Now if Timotheus come,
see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the
Lord, as I also do.
-
Remember Paul's
words to Timothy - For the time will
come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts
shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall
turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
-
Timothy's warning
from Paul: But watch thou in all things,
endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy
ministry. II Timothy 4:3-5
Hard verses?
-
These are TO us
through the Book, from Paul to Timothy to us!
-
I Timothy 5:20
- Them that sin rebuke before all, that
others also may fear.
-
I Timothy 6:14
- That thou keep this commandment without
spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
-
II Timothy
4:2 - Preach the word; be instant in season,
out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
-
Titus 1:13
- This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke
them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
-
Titus 2:15
- These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke
with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
You do acknowledge
the truth, right?
-
II Timothy
2:24-26 - And
the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt
to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves;
if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the
truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the
devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
You have
trusted in Christ, right?
-
Ephesians 1:12-14
-
That
we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed
with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his
glory.
You know
that you have received God's righteousness, right?
-
Romans 4:11
-
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of
the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father
of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness
might be imputed unto them also:
-
Romans 4:23-25
- Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that
raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences,
and was raised again for our justification.
-
Romans 10:4
-
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
-
Romans 4:5-8
- But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the
ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also
describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness
without works, Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven,
and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not
impute sin.
-
Romans 8:1-4
- There is
therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk
not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit
of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned
sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled
in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Then
we ought to be not only 'willing'
but
we ought to be 'able' to take heed to
I
&
II Timothy and Titus.
Yes,
it will be hard to endure sound doctrine...
-
...but we are
to endure it nonetheless!
-
II Timothy
2:3,4 - Thou
therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that
warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please
him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
-
But not "to
the end!" Matthew 24:13 -
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
We have 5 "official" challenges left
(and many little ones throughout the Books of Timothy
I & II)...
Are you ready to hear? Are you ready to accept
them?
His charges are serious - they are...
-
... before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ,
who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom...
-
... in the sight of God, who quickeneth all
things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a
good confession...
-
... before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ,
and the elect angels...
more specific charges in the next sermon...
