Local Weather Scenes

These are just some various shots of weather - usually no explanations because I don't know my storms and clouds anymore.  There will be just pictures and videos - unless some unique weather pops up in the neighborhood - like the world record 2 pound hail chunk in Vivian, SD in July of 2010 - just east of us... or the holes in their roofs through their inside ceilings to the furniture from other hail stones - you know, things like that.

Short videos of the approaching storm in July, 2010
June2, 2011

Some of this video is a bit fuzzy - my apologies.  As I scan the horizon, you can see the many little storms systems merge into one gigantic storm.  As I finally chose to race home to the safety of the garage, nothing came out of this storm except a lot of wind and rain... this time!

Storm7308.wmv - by now, other town people have pulled up to watch the 'action'
Storm7309.wmv- right over our head - time to leave for the garage

- these videos are a little longer but watch for some good lightning and thunder -
(don't mistake some thunder for a few trucks and Harley bikes...)

I learned from the last storm to get home BEFORE the storm arrives!
When the wind picks up and the air is suddenly cold,
it is time to head for the garage!

Sun and rain at the same time - I love it!

Storm Cell development
You can see the different rings as the storm goes from one ring to a 'few' more right in front of our eyes.  This was a serious storm cell that produced a few tornados north of us.

This went from 'enjoying' to 'being a bit scared...'

Distant 'Come & Go' Storms
We truly enjoy seeing big storm systems miles and miles away across the prairie.  These storms go away as fast as they arrive.  First, it is sunny - then suddenly, a storm blows in and as quickly as it came, it is gone and the sun is shining again!  We don't have those days of cloudiness, etc.  Storms come and go and can be watched from a long distance away.

I took these pics as we drove along the highway to Rapid City.

Some folks are having a 'wet' day - those folks, though, are a long ways away.

Some of the rain never lands on the ground - it evaporates before it hits.

Somebody got a good washing today!

Here we see one storm following another one!

A little 'downpour' in the distance!

Here is an interesting development!

Somebody is getting hammered with a huge downpour!

That 'somebody' were the people camping and visiting the Badlands that day!

I 'think' I wish I was in the middle of that storm - doesn't that look exciting!

Well, maybe not.  How about those poor 'tent' campers???

More pics and videos coming as the weather 'happens.'
