The editors of The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, (used by new version translators and creators of new lexicons) by Gerhard Kittel (Hitler's #3 man) admit:  Dictionaries are incontestably among the most imperfect of human products. Those who are driven by calling or circumstances to seek help in lexical works should realize how inadequate is that which even the best and most comprehensive of dictionaries can offer the user.  (page 660, Vol. 10)

Compare that to what the Lord says:  The words of the LORD are pure words - Psalm 12:6,7; Every word of God is pure - Proverbs 30:5.

Let's look at a few words that the KJB shows an even more accurate definition that men have 'watered' down - even KJB folks tend to use these out of habit by how were taught by men, NOT by God!

The meaning to "to make happy" was only a later development around A.D. 1000.  (Perhaps seen as the result of a life marked by the blood of Christ that has now been dummied-down to a level AWAY from the true meaning of the word!)

Remember our recent sermon on Blessings and riches - following Paul's gospel, we find that they are spiritual, not physical.
Ephesians 1:3 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Ephesians 3:8 - Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;  Riches such as grace, strength, glory of his inheritance, forgiveness of sins, etc.

Those blessings and riches are only possible because of Christ's blood, and the Language of the KJB tells us that - even beyond the verses themselves!

A true blessing is only possible because of His blood.  Now, a Christian can be a blessing because he/she wouldn't have 'done' that without being saved, etc.  There is some application there, of course, but we must be careful not to make those 'blessings' become physical gifts/happenings of which moth and rust doth corrupt.  Those are neat, but they are not blessings!

Understand that one?  That is why we say we are swimming 'deeper' by looking at the English language of this Bible.  Enlightening, isn't it!  Just like Paul said, Ephesians 1:18 - The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints...  and we see it happening, amen?

In fact - here is more:
The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language says that the 'o' in the Anglo-Saxon language actually meant 'God's mouth' or 'God's word'.  (also much like the more squarish Chinese character for breath / mouth.)

Not only was 'God' watered down to 'good,' but 'spell,'  meaning 'words,' was changed to 'news' to accommodate liberal textual critics who do not believe that the Bible is God's word, but merely a book which contained a 'good message.'

The OED also states that 'spel' means specifically "To read a book letter by letter."

So, the KJB Baptist guys can and have said that the 'gospel' means good news because God's words are good news, but that is just an example of easily we can water down the truth - the Scriptures themselves do NOT say gospel means good news.  It means GOD'S WORDS!

The KJB correctly translates the first root eu with its primary meaning, 'God' - godliness, godly.

An eminent scholar Werner Foerster of Munster points out correctly that words with this root, "in early days, are often provided with more precise definitions to show to whom the ... godliness was directed."  He writes, "even later the habit of giving the object (God) did not die out."

The second root, aggello, has the primary meaning of 'word.'

So, an evangelist puts out God's words!  Note what Paul said in II Timothy 4:2-5 - Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.  But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

In fact, even the word "English" comes from the word 'Anglo-ish,' meaning 'Word-ish".

Bonus thought:
The first usage of the word 'angel' (root word evANGEList) in both the OT and the NT is someone giving God's words to someone else.

Genesis 16:11 - And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
Matthew 1:20-21 -  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

In other words, as the people of the 'word,' the English speaking Christians have excelled, (in generations past, anyway), in spreading and glorifying the word of God - as EVANGELISTS.

Purse?
The new versions and Strong's concordance, etc. all drop all logic, the Hebrew text and every dictionary aside and substitute the word 'purses.'

Implied
Instead of translating the Hebrew word, charitim, which simply means 'an engraving tool, stylus, or pen,' they copy the error in the corrupt Brown, Driver, Briggs, and Gesenius Hebrew Lexicon.  The lexicon admits 'purse' is not a translation, but is 'by impl.", meaning a guess implied.

A child knows!
Anyone who has seen an engraving set knows that it is identical to a curling iron, with its metal rod or pin, handle, and electric cord.  The heated metal which melts the face of the surface to be engraved, would also curl hair or fabric wrapped around it.

Bachelors!
These bachelor lexical writers could not imagine how an engraving tool could be related to a discussion of women's apparel, so they guess that the hollow that could be created by an engraving tool was being addressed and consequently a hollow object, perhaps a purse, might be implied (lied).  Yup - bachelors they were!

Even in historical writings, we see:
1618 - Never powder, nor crisping iron, shall touch these dangling locks.
1772 - Cease, with crisping tongs, to tare and torture thus thy flowing hair.
1627 - Fetch me my crisping pinnes to curle my locks.

Note the word 'pind' (pinned); a crisping pin may also be a pin, like a hat pin, used to attach a 'crisp' or veil to one's hair.

Crisp also applies to fabric.
OED says: "Applied to some fabrics, perhaps of crepe like texture... some thin or delicate textile fabric, used esp. by women for veils or head covering... A head covering made of this material." So, a crisping pin may also be used to 'crisp' or curl fabrics.

June 8, 1927 - Daily Tel. 21 - The cloth may be crisped.

We do not need all those reference sources, for the King James Bible's built-in dictionary reveals precisely what a crisping pin is.

So why don't they just stick with crisping pin?
They don't want to - they will justify their reasoning somehow - even if it has NO textual support - and just use their own thinking.
Romans 10:3 - For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
II Peter 3:5 - For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
I Corinthians 2:4-6 - And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.  Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

WIMPLE
Here is an example - Isaiah 3:22 - 'wimples, and the crisping pins' - the word wimple does just that.
Wimpler - OED - a wavy lock of hair

1724 - Down his braid back, from his ... head, the silver wimpler's grew.
1615 - The wimple is a substrate, that is, below a veil, in the form of wavy hair or fabric.
1425 - Her hair is wimple arrayed.
1607 - I wimple it with either jewels or a lock of hair.

The verb 'wimple' means to "wrinkle, ... twist, ripple... to envelope the head... to enfold, enwrap, wrap up.. to meander ... Wimples envelop the head and are pinched."

Logically then, a 'wimples' are curls of hair or a pinched fabric veil, made so by using a 'crisping pin.'

Not only is the NKJV wrong in its use of the word 'purse' instead of 'crisping pins,'  ... we must ask, "What is a festal?"
