Soul Wisdom
Being Rich Toward God
Part I

Preface:
The body is not the soul.  (I Thessalonians 5:23; Job 12:10; 14:22; 33:18)
The soul has a body shape. (II Corinthians 12:1-4; Revelation 6:9; Luke 16:19-24)
In the OT, the soul is stuck to the body, so often they are spoken of as identical (Ezekiel 18:4; Genesis 19:20; Joshua 10:35)
The New Birth in the NT is a spiritual operation, cutting the soul loose from the body inside.  (Colossians 2:11-13).

In either testament, the man's soul is his "ego" or "I am."

Introduction:
Lose your own soul? for what?
Matthew 16:26 - For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Fear the right one!
Matthew 10:28 - And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell Is this the devil, or God, or both?  But is certainly isn't man! Proverbs 29:25 - The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Lost:
Romans 3:18 - There is no fear of God before their eyes.  (there is a fear among Christians today, but it is the wrong fear)
Hebrews 10:31 - It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Saved:
But is it a fear for us who are saved?  Not about going to Hell, anyway!
II Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Take your pick!

Rest unto your soul!
Matthew 11:28-30 - Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.  This rest comes from knowing Paul, etc.
There is no rest if folks try to walk holy to be holy according to the Gospels - but to walk holy because you are holy according to Paul's gospel - there is rest as we learn his way more perfectly!

Don't be the fool!
Luke 12:16-21 - And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:  And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?  And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.  And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.  But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?  So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Main sermon body:
Let's look to thee book of wisdom about the soul!
THE PROVERBS!

Knowledge / Understanding / Wisdom
2:10 - When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; ...
3:21-22 - My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:  So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
19:8 - He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
10:2,3 - Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.  The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
24:13,14 - My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:   So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
19:2 - Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

Others
11:17 - The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
11:25a - The liberal soul shall be made fat...

Win / Deliver
11:30b - ...and he that winneth souls is wise.
14:25 -  A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
(remember the witnesses?  John the Baptist, Jesus' works, the Father Himself, the Scriptures, Apostles, Paul, US, Jesus Christ!)
24:11,12 - If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it?  and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it?  and shall not he render to every man according to his works?  We must still witness today!

22:24,25 - Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:  Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.  See II Timothy 2:23-26
