Sermon Series on Putting Paul's Gospel Into Our
Family Design
(based on chart
tract)
First comes crucifying
our flesh / world...
Galatians 5:24 - And
they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and
lusts.
Galatians 6:14 -
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus
Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
...then we can rise & live our
family life with Him as designed by Him which was then presented to and
patterned by Paul.
I Timothy 1:16 - Howbeit
for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew
forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe
on him to life everlasting.
Colossians 3:1 - f
ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where
Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Seven Husbands
for Seven Brides
|
For the husband is the head of the
wife, even as Christ is the head of the church:
and he is the saviour of the body.
Ephesians 5:23
Now folks, I am certainly no Dr. Phil - nor do I even want to be considered
one nor do I even believe he is of any value to a Christian. But...
this is a husband sermon today!
For a Christian man, our concept of being a husband is based on our
concept of Christ! We are to be the head
and saviour of our wife, even
as Christ was of the church!
And of course, we once again see the importance of Rightly Dividing
the word of truth - even when it comes to such practicality of being a
husband.
True Christ / True Husband
If we understand the true Christ, then we will be closer to being a
'true' Christian husband / father.
If we do not understand the 'true' Christ, then we can all too easily
pattern our husbanding / fathering after another Jesus, and have a miserable
home!
Yes - always exceptions, but that is not an excuse!
And there are always exceptions - some will still have a 'happy' home
by worldly psychology as well as by these other designs you will learn
about below.
But what a shame it would be to see all that godliness
without the power thereof burn up in the judgment seat.
Doing right wrong is still wrong!
And some folks won't know how they did until their kids grow up and
can do things their way - then the husband / dad will know how he did -
but then, quite possibly and probably, it will be too late.
7 Husbands
We have studied those 7 churches in Revelation.
We have studied those churches and saw 7 types of marriages.
Now, let's look at 7 types of husbands - based on:
a) how we pattern ourselves after Christ as the head of the church,
and
b) knowing how mixed up most men are these days by a lack of rightly
dividing their bible - AND -
c) because of the false teachings floating so carelessly around in
most churches today.
For the record and to announce ahead of time, there is only ONE correct
type of husband today; however, I see these other types throughout our
Christian families.
Here we go:
1. Adam - Mr. It's Not My Fault!
Genesis 3:12
-
wife: Eve
-
He was perfect but disobeyed God and followed her advice - and blew it
all - even for his kids. But still, it was all HER fault! Genesis
3:12 - And the man said, The woman whom
thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
-
Men, it is NEVER our fault, is it?
-
This kind of man allows things to totally fall apart and blames his wife
for it all!
-
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
'family,''
and ... so death passed upon all men... Romans
5:12
-
... death reigned ... over them that had not
sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression...
Romans
5:14
-
... through the offence of one many be dead...
Romans 515
-
... for as by one man's disobedience many were
made sinners... Romans 5:19
-
Adam couldn't get off the hook and neither can you,
mr adam... it is YOUR responsibility - you can't keep blaming her!
2. Job - Mr. Hang in There No
Matter What! Job 1:8
-
wife: No name but sure made a name for herself when she said to Job,
"Does thou still retain thine integrity? curse God and die."
BUT HE DIDN'T!
-
He truly was one of a kind!
None like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feareth
God, and escheweth evil. Job
1:8
-
Had it all!
-
Lost it all!
-
Didn't give up!
-
Had some lousy friends!
-
Wanted it all in a book and said he would take it everywhere he went!
-
Was a target of the devil but an example for God!
-
Ended up with more blessings!
-
But he truly was one of a kind - there are no more like him, so don't try
to blame it all on the devil!
3. Noah - Mr. Good but Strange Guy!
Genesis 6:8,9
-
He was a man who had found grace in the eyes of God - a just man and perfect
in his generations, and walked with God! Genesis
6:8,9
-
Genesis 6:18; 7:5,7,13; 8:18; 9:1,7
-
wife: no name. There was nothing famous about her at all; she
was nameless and apparently was 'just' a mother of three boys.
-
Even though Noah was building a 'boat' when they had never heard of rain
before, she just must have gone along with him - she got to get on the
boat, too!
-
Is that how you want your wife - just out of the picture totally - to let
you do 'your own thing?' You go to work - come home and play with
your big boy toys - watch TV, etc. Let her do the kids and
chores around the house, etc. After all, you are a busy man!
-
Not always a bad thing, but is that the design for the woman today?
Is that the bride today? Is that all there is to being a Christian
today - NOTHING expected of us at all? Just stay out of the picture
and keep quiet!
-
Am I looking to get women involved in building the boat? No, but
is there anything for the Christian woman to do today? Does she have
a purpose? Yes, and if you don't show her, Rick Warren will!
-
Regardless, be sure to bring her with you for the rewards you will share
together today as well as tomorrow.
-
Maybe you just THINK you are doing God's work!
4. Abraham - Mr. I'm Special!
Genesis
12:2,3;
-
wife: Sarah
-
His seed was going to be blessed.
-
Genesis 12:16 - oops. Listened
to his wife instead of God, eh? But 'his' blessing
continued anyway. Genesis 17:4-8;
18:18,19
-
His faith was counted for righteousness! Romans
4:13-25.
-
He just plain was a good guy no matter what!
-
So, can we be like Abraham today? Do our children
get an automatic blessing and automatic spiritual status because of who
dad is?
-
Is the mission for this husband to just have children to pass on his great
name? -. he can do it all his way, even as suggested by his wife - after
all, God said others are going to be blessed by his seed.
-
How did his two kids turn out, anyway? How about all the children
that came after him. He is called the father of us all... by the
way, should we call him 'Father Abraham' in our singing? :-)Matthew
23:9 - And call no man your father upon
the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Paul
uses the term fathers quite often - so see, rightly dividing sets the record
straight, again. However, that is still no excuse for a Catholic
to call their guy 'Father."
-
Do you just expect your family to be good just because
of who you think you are? Do you think you can just sit back and watch
it happen?
5. Moses - Mr. Do
It My Way - The Deliverer: Exodus 3:1-8
-
the Law-Giver Exodus 24:12!
-
wife: Zipporah - boy what a time she gave him!!! see Exodus
4:25,26
-
had a bad past - a murderer!
-
highly educated - knew his stuff!
-
really didn't think he could do anything for God!
-
preached the law - the law-giver - John 1:17
-
enforced the law!
-
led the troops!
-
Controlled things all around him!
-
Always preached to them!
-
Got tired of them and often didn't know what to do with them!
-
Saw his family punished hard - some even to death!
-
God was going to still use him in the future, so he was so valuable the
devil wanted him!
-
But his way still didn't work! His family ended up in a huge mess!
6a. Jesus Christ through the Gospels - Mr.
I'll Do It Myself! I Timothy
3:16
-
I Timothy 3:16 -
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest
in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the
Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
-
Wanted folks to follow Him - even give up everything
they had and do it all His way!
-
He did love the people and tried to show them over
and over and over and over.
-
He knew He had the right way - and even was the right
way! The only way! It was His way or no way!
-
He could establish dominion over all and it would
all work properly!
-
He truly could have been the King!
-
He was the man for Victory!
-
He wanted to be their Saviour - their Messiah, as
promised in the OT.
-
Strict obedience to His ways was the way it had to
be!
-
He would make it happen and knew how to tell others
to do the same thing - in fact, He did tell others to tell others about
Him!
-
But in spite of all He did for them, they 'all' rejected
Him in the end!
6b. Another Jesus - during the Tribulation - Mr
Mean Pretender II Corinthians
11:4; Isaiah 12:12-14; Revelation 6
-
Even if they suffer, they have to obey me.
-
They must be in subjection to me!
-
If they don't obey, it's curtains for them eternally!
-
Work for me or be worthless - starve if you have to!
-
Dictator - Boss - Conqueror - Mr. Dominion!
-
Boss'm & Bash'm to Bondage!
-
My way is the right way!
-
Worship me - show me reverence or I'll 'gitcha' - you'll pay!
-
Deceitful worthless abusing husband pretending he is a godly husband -
claiming I Peter 3 as his proof text.
-
He is a fake - an unbeliever - and today, you do not have to stay married
to an unbeliever who treats you this way! I
Corinthians 7:13. But during the
Tribulation, you will NOT be able to divorce!
6c. Jesus Christ- Millennium - Mr.
My Way IS the Right Way! Revelation
19:15
-
Rule with an iron rod
-
Will bind the devil to the bottomless pit - Revelation
20:2,3 Do you think you can bind
the devil today?
-
The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords! - Revelation
19:16 Does that make you the
husband of husbands?
-
The judge of the 'lost' - Do you judge everyone
but yourself?
-
Sits on the throne above all! Are you the
king on the throne all the time ruling and reigning over your family?
-
He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath
of Almighty God. Revelation 19:15
- Is that your daily job? Is your name Mr. Wrath?
-
You are not there yet, Mr! Philippians
3:21 - Who shall change our vile body,
that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the
working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
7. Jesus Christ - through
Paul - Mr I'll Give Myself for Her -
Mr Right! Ephesians 5
-
Ephesians 5:23 - For
the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the
church: and he is the Saviour of the body.
-
Ephesians 5:24 - Therefore
as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own
husbands in every thing.
-
Ephesians 5:25 - Husbands,
love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself
for it;
-
Ephesians 5:26 - That
he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
-
Ephesians 5:27 - That
he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
-
Ephesians 5:28 - So
ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife
loveth himself.
-
Ephesians 5:29 - For
no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it,
even as the Lord the church:
-
Ephesians 5:33 -
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as
himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
-
He walked the walk - no sin! (not you, Him!)
-
He took our sins upon Himself - He became sin for
us - He shed HIS blood for us!
-
Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
Romans 5:20b
-
He paid the complete penalty - ALL of it!
-
He does not impute the present NOR the future sins!
-
There is no forgiveness to confess for - that is
the Millennium Jesus... I John 1:9
-
He shows us HOW He would have us walk to please Him,
not just demand it!
-
He gives us His WORDS - even in writing. He
doesn't have to be misunderstood!
-
He gives us a practical man to follow - one of 'us'
so we can have a practical pattern and one who understands (Romans
7:15-21, etc.)
-
He leads by example!
-
He leads with True Love!
-
He leads with Grace AND truth!
-
He will be loved and followed with reverence out
of love, not out of forced obedience!
-
Faith means more to him than your works!
-
He will even give you HIS faith if you give him yours
first!
-
If you want the details on how to love your wife
/ and visa versa - read Song of Solomon!
Which husband are you?
A combination of some or all?
Which husband should you strive to be?
Which husbands do modern Christians try to be?
If you haven't figured out by now, to be the true love
for your wife,
aim for number 7! It has eternal benefits!
And hey, remember, you can not IMITATE Christ as a husband,
but we can learn how to be the right husband by following
Paul
as he shows us how Christ loves us!
Those things, which ye have both learned,
and received, and heard, and seen in me, do:
and the God of peace shall be with you.
Philippians 4:9
