Part XV "Our treasures and our heart." Matthew
6:19-
We compare what Jesus said about heart treasures to the Jews during
the Gospels and what the Risen Christ says to us today - through Paul and the
KJB!
Jesus said to the Jews about their treasures: 19: Lay not
up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal: 20: But lay
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21: For where
your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
They had to give up their possessions, anyway!
Matthew 19:21 - Jesus
said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and
give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and
follow me.
Mark 10:23-31
It was not wise to be involved with earthly treasure
seeking & storing!:
Luke 8:14 - And
that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go
forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life,
and bring no fruit to perfection.
Matthew 13:22 -
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word;
and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the
word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Mark 4:18,19 -
And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts
of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Luke 21:34-36 -
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged
with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day
come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell
on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that
ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to
pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
The Risen Christ says to
us about our treasures today (the way of God more perfectly
- a more excellent way) through our apostle Paul and the KJB:
We are never told to 'give it all up!'
These hymns are not to us today!
I surrender All; Give It All Sunday; Is Your All
on the Altar,' etc.
Colossians 3:1-3 -
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where
Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above,
not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with
Christ in God.
Colossians 2:2,3 - That
their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto
all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement
of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christian whom are hid
all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
I Timothy 6:9-12
- But they that will be rich fall into
temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which
drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root
of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God,
flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal
life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession
before many witnesses.
I Timothy 6:17-19
- Charge them that are rich in this
world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but
in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they
do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing
to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against
the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Philippians 3:18,19 -
(For
many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping,
that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction,
whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly
things.)
Spiritual blessings today
Ephesians 1:3 -
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed
us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:]
Romans 4:8 - Blessed
is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Romans 15:29 - And
I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the
blessing of the gospel of Christ.
Galatians 3:14 -That
the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ;
that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
I Corinthians 2:12 - Now
we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is
of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Our one crown:
II Timothy 4:8 -
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the
Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only,
but unto all them also that love his appearing.
What are you storing up for treasures?
saved
I Corinthians 3:13-15 - Every
man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because
it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of
what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon,
he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall
suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Works are to be based on Paul's teachings
I Corinthians 3:10-11 - According
to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I
have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man
take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
Romans 2:16 -
In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according
to my gospel.
Romans 4:15 - Because
the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
Ephesians 3:6 -
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers
of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
Ephesians 1:13,14 -
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed
with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his
glory.
lost
Romans 2:5 -
But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself
wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment
of God;
Where should our heart be today?
Remember, our heart is still deceivable!
Romans 16:18 -
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly;
and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Ephesians 5:6 - Let
no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh
the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Ephesians 4:14 - That
we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness,
whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
II Corinthians 2:11 - Lest
Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
I Corinthians 2:4,5 - And
my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith
should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Jude 16 - getting
more and more of this as we near the fulness of the Gentiles...
Colossians 2:4 - 8 -
And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. For
though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying
and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been
taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil
you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after
the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Romans 16:17-18 -
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences
contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For
they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly;
and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
What we do give up, we should despise - and try to
destroy the magnificence of it all - as part of our testimony for ourselves...
for the sakes of others...See
Acts 19:22-29
Another great Paul verse:
II Thessalonians 3:5 -
And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient
waiting for Christ.
the love of God and the 'wait' for Christ is only
taught in detail through Paul!
God is trying to direct our hearts to Paul - the
only place we can learn of God's love and wait patiently for Christ!
Where is your heart today?
If Christ is in our hearts, wouldn't you think he
would be our heart's treasure - and so wouldn't you think that we would
have our concentration and concern there as well?
Ephesians 3:17 -
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and
grounded in love,
If the peace of God is to rule in our hearts, wouldn't
you think that our heart would be always towards the peace of God?
Colossians 3:15 - And
let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called
in one body; and be ye thankful.
If our heart is to be comforted, and to be comforted
by the scriptures, wouldn't you think our heart would be in the Scriptures?
II Thessalonians 2:16,17 -
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath
loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through
grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
Romans 15:4 - For
whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning,
that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
What has been stolen today by thieves, anyway?
A properly designed church assembly!
trying to grow together instead of apart
falsely taught to unify based on flesh, feeling,
fun and fabulous frolicking activities

Music that pleases God and is good for us, etc.
Doesn't have to be 'Christian!"
In fact, if it is, it probably isn't!
If our treasures are earthly, then we will be offended
by a serious 'sermon' on sound doctrine from Paul.
If our treasures are 'above' then we will be offended
/ bothered by earthly emphasis, religious or otherwise.
Acts 19:26,27
Do you despise anything yet?
Do you try to destroy the magnificence of anything
yet?
