Sermon on the Mount
" More Perfectly "
|
Part XII
Matthew
5:38:48
Three points to be made here today:
-
1) more 'upgraded changes' - 'way of God but more perfectly' - 'transitions'
made by Jesus when he compares to Moses law, etc.
-
2) consequences here are different than with Paul when it comes to
these statements
-
3) this is about dealing with 'the enemy.'
1) Upgraded changes:
-
ye have heard that it hath been said...
-
Why can't Jesus say the same with Paul?
-
it is all just the way of God more perfectly!
Jesus said...
5:38: Ye have
heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
-
Old Testament said
-
Exodus 21:24,5 - Eye
for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning,
wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
-
Leviticus 24:17-22 - And
he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death. And he that killeth
a beast shall make it good; beast for beast. And if a man cause a
blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;
Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish
in a man, so shall it be done to him again. And he that killeth a
beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put
to death. Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger,
as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
-
Deuteronomy 19:20,21 - And
those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no
more any such evil among you. And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall
go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Jesus then said...
-
39: But I say unto you, That ye resist not
evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the
other also.
-
The Christian today is rolling over and lazily playing
dead because of this teaching!
-
They are preparing for a peace, but unfortunately,
it will be brought in by the antichrist and all his flattering and peaceful
ways.
-
There is little if any 'fight' left in Christians
today!
-
The fight they do put forth is against the KJB, Paul,
rightly dividing and the Risen Saviour.
-
Christ is STILL rejected by those who say they are
'his own.' (See John
1:11 - He came unto his own, and his own
received him not.)
The Risen Jesus Christ has taught us through Paul:
-
see below sermon comments' on evil from the Risen Saviour - through Paul
and the KJB...
Jesus said
40: And if
any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have
thy cloke also.
-
Paul's teachings for today
-
I Corinthians 6:1-8
-
a brother suing a brother in the world's courts - you can't settle things
from a brother to a brother?
-
1-3 - Dare
any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust,
and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the
world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge
the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much
more things that pertain to this life?
-
The third party:
-
4-5 - If
then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge
who are least esteemed in the church. I speak to your shame. Is it so,
that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able
to judge between his brethren?
-
Bad testimony
-
6 - But brother
goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
-
take the wrong - if you don't, then that is the bigger wrong!
-
7-8 - Now therefore
there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another.
Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves
to be defrauded? Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
-
See Paul's teachings on the enemy and the brethren
for handling issues legally, etc. and how we are to look to the brethren!
-
Sue the city - others, etc. - stop them from taking
away the very liberty that was patterned after Christ's liberty.
-
They attack and slander - they still shouldn't get
away with that stuff. We have as much freedom as they do.
Jesus said
41: And whosoever
shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
The Risen Saviour says to us through Paul...
-
There is still nothing wrong with giving someone more - helping them beyond
even what they asked!
-
If folks need help, be there with more!
-
Romans 8:37 -
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved
us.
-
Philemon 21 - Having
confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also
do more than I say.
-
Just be prepared... they quickly forget what you have done for them!
-
It only takes one act of missed or misunderstood charity for them to forget
the 20 other times of charity you gave them!
-
Charity edifieth - see I Corinthians 8:1
- but folks today tend to feel burned when charity is used for correction
and edification - they will not endure sound doctrine - it is their choice
to whom they serve!
-
More often than not, they will serve their flesh, not what the Book has
taught them about themselves.
-
They will forget what you did do for them earlier!
-
II Corinthians 12:15 - And
I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly
I love you, the less I be loved.
-
II Corinthians 1:24 - Not
for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy:
for by faith ye stand.
-
Not for dominion or control - but in order to help
someone with their joy, they need to hear and learn about the Risen Saviour!
-
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard
the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after
that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians
1:13
-
I Corinthians 4:15-17
- For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not
many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. For this cause have I sent
unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who
shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach
every where in every church.
-
II Timothy 3:7 - Ever
learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Jesus said
42: Give to
him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou
away.
-
Old Testament teaches:
-
No usury - no interest.
-
It makes you his servant - or you his master!
-
Proverbs 22:7 - The
rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
-
Exodus 22:25 - If
thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not
be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.
-
The Risen Jesus teaches us through Paul - to the
men, get work so you can help those who need help!
-
Ephesians 4:28 - Let
him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his
hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
Jesus said
43: Ye have
heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine
enemy.
-
Neighbour?
-
Old Testament
-
Leviticus 19:18 - Thou
shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people,
but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
-
The Risen Saviour teaches through Paul...
-
Romans 13:10 - Love
worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the
law.
-
Galatians 5:14 - For
all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself.
-
Unless thy neighbour... withdraw, avoid, etc.
-
Enemy?
-
OT - Hate thine enemy?
-
Deuteronomy 30:7 - And
the LORD thy God will put all these curses upon thine enemies, and on them
that hate thee, which persecuted thee.
-
Esther 9:5 - Thus
the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter,
and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.
-
Psalm 18:40 -
Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy
them that hate me.
-
Psalm 21:8 - Thine
hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those
that hate thee.
-
See below sermon comments from the Risen Saviour
to us today through Paul about the enemy!
Jesus said
44: But I
say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to
them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute
you;
-
Consequences of that teaching during Jesus' time!
-
45 - That ye may
be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun
to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on
the unjust.
-
Explanation, please?
-
46-48 - For if
ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans
the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than
others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as
your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
-
salvation - that ye may be the children of your Father...
-
what deal is it if those you love is the brethren?
-
it is hard to love the enemy - so there is your reward!
-
be ye therefore perfect?
-
Finished; complete ; consummate ; not defective;
having all that is requisite to its nature and kind; Complete in moral
excellencies.
-
even AS your Father...
-
are we to imitate or follow?
-
be as God? - or gods?
-
What does the Risen Saviour say about those folks
today?
-
I Timothy 6:3-5 -If
any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words
of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of
words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse
disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing
that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
-
Coals of fire
-
Romans 12:20 -Therefore
if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so
doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
-
See Romans 2:5 -
But
after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath
against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
The enemy and evil - let
the Risen Saviour speak to you today!
(this is not on the audio portion of the sermon
-
this is here for your own personal study on
the enemy and evil.
although this would make a good sermon sometime,
eh!)
-
Those that pervert the right ways of the Lord!
-
Acts 13:10 - And
said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil,
thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right
ways of the Lord?
-
Any other gospel? Accursed!
-
Galatians 1:8 -
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you
than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
-
Turn the brethren against the brethren - seems like
it is their goal!
-
Acts 14:2 - But
the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil
affected against the brethren.
-
Inventors of evil things!
-
Romans 1:30 -
Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil
things, disobedient to parents,
-
Tribulation and anguish
-
Romans 2:9 - Tribulation
and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first,
and also of the Gentile;
-
must be after their judgment!
-
They accuse us of 'sinning' even after we learn...
-
Romans 3:8 - And
not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we
say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
-
The end does not justify the means!
-
II Timothy 2:9 - Wherein
I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God
is not bound.
-
Paul had the evil still in his flesh!
-
Romans 7:19 -
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that
I do.
-
Romans 7:21 - I
find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
-
Abhor that which is evil!
-
Romans 12:9 - Let
love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that
which is good.
-
No pay backs!
-
Romans 12:17 - Recompense
to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
-
I Thessalonians 5:15 - See
that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which
is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
-
Titus 3:2 - To
speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness
unto all men.
-
Overcome evil with good
-
Romans 12:21 -
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
-
Rulers?
-
Romans 13:3-4 -
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then
not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have
praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But
if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword
in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon
him that doeth evil.
-
reverse the above verse when the rulers become evil!
-
Be simple concerning evil!
-
Romans 16:19 -
For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on
your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and
simple concerning evil.
-
Do not lust after evil things - it's in our blood
to lust after evil things!
-
I Corinthians 10:6 - Now
these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after
evil things, as they also lusted.
-
We are evil spoken of... for what?
-
I Corinthians 10:30 - For
if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which
I give thanks?
-
Jesus eventually wins over them!
-
I Corinthians 15:25 -
For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
-
Evil communications
-
I Corinthians 15:33 -
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
-
Do you look approved?
-
II Corinthians 13:7 - Now
I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but
that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
-
Delivered / Kept from - by His work on and after
the cross - and the KJB the sword of His circumcision and light unto our
path today!!
-
Galatians 1:4 - Who
gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil
world, according to the will of God and our Father:
-
II Timothy 4:18 -
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me
unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
-
II Thessalonians 3:3 -
But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
-
Put away evil speaking
-
Ephesians 4:31 -
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking,
be put away from you, with all malice:
-
The days are evil!
-
Ephesians 5:16 - Redeeming
the time, because the days are evil.
-
Evil workers
-
Philippians 3:2 - Beware
of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
-
Enemies of the cross of Christ
-
Philippians 3:17-19
- Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as
ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you
often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the
cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and
whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
-
Not an enemy - but admonish and withdraw from...
-
II Thessalonians 3:14-15 -
And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have
no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy,
but admonish him as a brother.
-
Appearance of...
-
I Thessalonians 5:22 -
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
-
Root of evil
-
I Timothy 6:10 - For
the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after,
they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.
-
People will do us evil!
-
II Timothy 4:14 - Alexander
the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his
works:
-
Just continues to get worse!
-
II Timothy 3:13 -
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being
deceived.

entire King James Bible is written FOR us, but it is not all written TO
us!
We
learn from the "For" and we try to apply the 'TO!"
