This is the outline to July 23 SS.
We read through I Timothy 2 and ended up 'parking' on the subject of modesty. These are questions / comments from that session.
Modesty responsibility rests on the man, whether it be the father, husband
or even brothers.
Genesis 20:16 -
And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces
of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that
are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
Eve did what she did because Adam did not protect her. There was ONE tree that they could not eat from - so why did he allow her to hang around that one in the forest of other 'good' trees! Thus it was HIS responsibility as God told Adam about the tree, not Eve.
Modesty in I Timothy 2 is referring
to 'appearance' of apparel as well as 'visual' physical modesty.
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves
in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety;
not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls,
or costly array;
But (which becometh women professing godliness)
with good works.
I Timothy 2:9,10
- from verse 8, you are to dress
modestly without wrath and doubting...
(in like manner...)
- shamefacedness is 'beyond' modesty - leaving no doubt because you
are shamed if you don't!
Flesh says look and see.
...attractee and/or attractor or attracted? It all can involve
lust - and lasciviousness is rampant these days ad is making provision
for the flesh! Romans 13:14 - But
put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh,
to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Expensive and hard to find modest clothing today!
... if you want to be modestly dressed, you will find them or make
them yourselves!
Not conducive to the work you do?
...in the home, maybe some of that still isn't your work to be doing?
...away from the home, you are not called to work outside the home.
...more and more, a woman is not ALLOWED to dress modestly in the work
place, anyway!
Time has destroyed any and all modesty standards!
...from a covered neck to all exposed - or some of the most sensitive
still covered but showing!
...it is called 'necking' but it isn't the neck a guy is after... I
wonder why it is called necking??? (answer is in the audio)
You can't stop glimpses!
... sure you can - don't give them something to glimpse.
... you are not to cause someone to stumble, either.
Some ladies / women don't realize they do show when they bend over,
cross legs, etc.
...(unless they don't to know...)
It's hot today!
... swimsuits are a disaster. Why teach your little children
it is ok to show all that leg right up to the 'spot' and then tell them
no later in life?
... why wear a long dress and be modestly covered all week long and
then forget about it at the beach?
... people wore MORE when we did NOT have air conditioning!
We are family!
...God also said the family is not to 'see' each other, either.
...Immodesty in your own kids and in what they see is destructive,
not edifying! Thank God for grace, but that still is a good standard
to consider!
Liberty?
... but you are still not to cause someone to stumble - LIKE YOUR OWN
KIDS!
