The Prison Epistles

Now that we have completed the Life of Paul in Acts, we will now head over to Paul in jail and with what he had to say to the Gentiles - 'without' any Jewish influence in the crowd - thus we find the 'signs' that came along during Acts in total absence throughout  these Epistles.

This is what I call the 'real stuff' that is written TO you and me today.

Follow Paul - not imitate
If we are to FOLLOW Paul, (which we are: Romans 11:13,14; 15:15,16; I Corinthians 3:10; 4:16; Philippians 3:17; 4:9; I Thessalonians 1:5,6; 4:1,2; II Thessalonians 3:7-9; I Timothy 1:15,16; II Timothy 2:7; 4:16,17, then here is the meat that leaves us with no doubts about what is being said.

(P.S. - we are not to imitate Paul, as the modern bibles all say - which is why they still think the
signs and wonders that Paul did are still to be done today!  They are not!)

Prison Epistles
These four letters Paul were wrote during his imprisonment in Rome (61-63 a.d.)- Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. With the exception of Philippians, they were written at the same time and carried by the same messengers (Ephesians 6:21; Colossians 4:7–9; Philemon 10–12). These letters are often called the “prison epistles.”

Work of the Ministry
We are now going to get into the 'work of the ministry' - more specifically, the work of OUR ministry here in Touchet.  Ephesians 4:11: And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
(the King James Bible will perfect us as we allow it to, anyway - II Timothy 3:16)
(the website, preaching, teaching, etc. sermons, CD's, etc. will edify the body of Christ here in Touchet as well as throughout the world / website)

But let us look at OUR work of the ministry!

Soul Winning Only vs Paul's Gospel
This is the stuff that seems to separate us from the Great Commission churches - and what they have against Paul I don't know - other than that they just would rather see folks saved than try to preach to them about their lives needing changing, too.

I say soul winning "only" because you can't bring folks in to 'save them' and then tell them the truth if they don't get a grip on that KJB!!!

Sympathy Only
Listen, I have come to understand that most folks only want sympathy for their messed up lives, they really don't want to do anything about their messed up life - like CHANGE THEM!  We can hold the snare clapper back, but they won't leave the snare itself!

Regeneration
Paul doesn't call our salvation being born-again, but regenerated! Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

There is a good reason for that...

A lost person is far more than just 'lost!'
Romans 7:9,10  For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.  And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.  In order to live, they must first realize they are dead!

They are at enmity with God!  They couldn't please God if they wanted to!
Enmity - The quality of being an enemy; the opposite of friendship; ill will; hatred; unfriendly dispositions;  2.  A state of opposition.
Romans 8:7,8  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Even James said Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

There is a change in a person's life that should come!
Just the term born-again doesn't really seem to indicate a need to have anything take place in their lives after they 'become saved.'
The word "Regeneration" tends to make someone think there must be some changes that will take place in one's life.

Ephesians 4:1  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Ephesians 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

(Yes, folks need to be 'born-again' as did Israel, etc. but to take them to John 3 potentially confuses common folks within their Bible.)
(born-again is a term used by modern Christianity these days - they may all have their own daffynition, but they sure do all use the term everywhere - another reason to be careful with your use of that term)
Yes, people tend to be satisfied just being saved!
Yes, people tend to be satisfied 'on their way to heaven!'
Yes, people tend to only want to receive from Christ, not BE what Christ would make them to BE!

We should change to live a "Risen Life."
We are to live a RISEN LIFE after we have had that crucified life take place.
Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 6:14  But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Colossians 2:12  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Colossians 3:1   If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Romans 14:7-9   For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.  For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.  For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

Ministry of Reconciliation
The work of the ministry is not only soul winning, but also is presenting the Ministry of Reconciliation.

Reconciliation - brought into a state of favor with God

II Corinthians 5:16-19 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

We are to be ambassadors:

II Corinthians 5:20,21  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Repent and turn to God
Paul's ministry goals were to see the Gentiles actually repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. Acts 26:20

A Greater Commission / A More Excellent Way
Acts 13:47  For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
I Corinthians 12:31b  ...But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Our goal is to grow within, not just in numbers!)
II Corinthians 10:13-16 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:  Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,  To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.

Salvation and growth for all!
I Corinthians 10:32,33  Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:  Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

Reconciliation
(one of the sacraments in the Catholic church - through confession to a priest...)

By Christ
Romans 5:10,11  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Hebrews 2:17  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

With Jews
Ephesians 2:11-22
Made nigh with the Jews... not just with God...

All Things
Colossians 1:20-22  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.  And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

All people - in one way or another!
Philippians 2:9-11  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

SAVED / RECONCILED TO GOD
or
LOST / HAVING NO HOPE AND WITHOUT GOD IN THE WORLD!
Which one are you?
