Romans 14 Applied Properly
|
So many use Romans 14 to stop folks
from judging the folks that are bringing the world and styles and immodesty
into their church.
-
They are wrong in doing so.
-
This chapter is for the small things -the obvious things still need action
to be taken!
-
There is no excuse to try to use this chapter to 'allow' things that are
'small' in one's personal growth.
1: Him
that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
-
Weak in the faith?
-
'In' faith
-
Romans 4:19,20
-
II Corinthians 8:7
-
I Timothy 2:7
-
I Timothy 4:12
-
Titus 2:2
-
Showing Trib 'in faith - once again proving the difference
in the dispensation of grace vs tribulation!'
-
Hebrews 11:13
-
James 1:6
-
James 2:5
-
weak in 'the' faith - how?
-
Philippians 1:9,10
-
Romans 10:17
-
II Timothy 2:2
-
Titus 1:14
-
Titus 2:13
-
Colossians 1:6
-
Colossians 2:8,9
-
Ephesians 4:17
-
II Timothy 3:1-9
-
II Timothy 3:10,11
-
II Timothy 3:15
-
II Timothy 3:15
-
Not heeding:
-
I Timothy 2:8-15
-
I Timothy 5:13-15
-
I Timothy 4:8
-
I Timothy 4:13,15,16
-
I Timothy 6:9,10
-
I Timothy 6:20,21
-
II Timothy 2:15,16
Disputation - act of disputing / argument / controversy
in words / verbal contest respecting truth or some fact.
This chapter is about the small stuff that
will only cause the weak in the faith to stumble, etc.
-
...not the obvious and cut & dried truth of the
Christian walk!
-
Don't use these verse to show 'grace' for the obvious
rebellious immodest behaviour, etc. that folks expect you to be graceful
and non-judgmental - even in our own churches today!
2: For
one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth
herbs.
-
Weak - note that word if they don't believe you can
eat the meat.
-
We can!
-
See Leviticus
11; Acts 10:9-15; I Timothy 4:1-5
-
But don't make an issue of it!
3: Let not him
that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not
judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
-
Note the words - DESPISE and JUDGE - and to whom
they are referred.
4: Who art thou
that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth.
Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
-
Not worth disputing over with one weak in the
faith!
5: One man esteemeth
one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man
be fully persuaded in his own mind.
-
Not worth disputing over with one weak in the faith!
-
Persuaded in his own mind!
6: He that
regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not
the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the
Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he
eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
-
Giveth God thanks either way you go!
7: For none of
us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
-
Paul didn't
-
Philippians 1:20-25
8: For whether
we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord:
whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
-
I Corinthians 6:19,20
-
II Timothy 2:11
9,10 - For to
this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord
both of the dead and living. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why
dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the
judgment seat of Christ.
-
You will have to answer to the judgment seat - so
withdraw if it is a big issue - otherwise, relax!
-
There are reasons and ways to leave and deal with
things if you must!
11,12 - For it
is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and
every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account
of himself to God.
-
Compare with Philippians
2:10,11
-
See the differences? one for saved / one for
lost - can you see which is which?
-
Bow down Now? He pays!
-
Bow down Tomorrow? You Pay!
13: Let us not
therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man
put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
-
Don't use this verse to negate and ignore:
-
Not be around those we we are not to be...
-
withdrawing from those and that which we should
-
not partake those who we are not to partake with
-
not fellowship with those we are not to fellowship
with, etc.
-
We have that liberty, but the manner of life is still
important - or we abuse the liberty for others, too!
-
Even going over their way will destroy your testimony,
HIS truth, etc.
-
etc.
14: I know, and
am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself:
but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.
-
Great Verse!
-
Nobody needs to hassle you nor do you need to hassle
others over doubtful disputations, etc.
15: But if thy
brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy
not him with thy meat, for whom Christ
died.
-
Meat: disputational stuff, not the meat of
doctrine!
16: Let not then
your good be evil spoken of:
-
You are still doing good - don't put the 'good' away
to please the evil!
17-19 - For the
kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and
joy in the Holy Ghost. For
he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved
of men. Let
us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith
one may edify another.
-
But if you can't -
Romans 12:18 -
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
-
don't blow your testimony by not 'avoiding' etc.
-
don't ruin your reputation
-
going ecumenical
-
no solid stand
-
no good witness
-
any bible is ok now?
-
Exchange Life programs now
-
Rick Warren, etc.
20: For meat destroy
not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that
man who eateth with offence.
-
again, meat is not the doctrinally obvious stuff!
-
Disputational stuff... -
-
Is it always our fault?
-
We are the enemy all of a sudden?
-
We are loved less?
-
Nobody did better than did Paul and look at how he
was received!
21: It is good
neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother
stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
-
Liberty - all things are lawful, but...
22: Hast thou
faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself
in that thing which he alloweth.
-
You are allowing the disputational stuff - not a
big problem!
-
if it gets out of hand, then you must do something!
-
before God? means before the Bible, these days!
23: And he that
doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever
is not of faith is sin.

The
entire King James Bible is written FOR us, but it is not all written TO
us!
We
learn from the "For" and we learn to apply the 'TO!"
