Introduction:

I have been having a great time since the fair booth last year when God exposed to us the false application of the so-called Great Commission that Baptists, Alpha-ites, huggy wuggy,  Purpose Drivers, modern Christians, etc. etc. ad naseum, as I looked into Matthew 5, etc. to prepare my Bible with the things that we can NOT do.

More than just the right walk now!
My personal revival started way back with my garden sermon series - we had to learn that the walk is important and that it is actually possible to please God in our daily walk.

But now we have come to see that we can not just aim for things 'better,' 'cleaner,' 'holier,' concerning our walk, but that we must truly have a true love and admiration for Christ personally!

Modern Christians have a relationship with "a" christ!
The devils imitation -
Isaiah 14:14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  It is what the modern Christian claims to have - a 'relationship with Christ' although the Scriptures are clear to show that they have a personal relationship with the spirit of anti-Christ! (See I John 4:1-3 and all the new bibles and doctrines resulting from them)

Can't or won't "understand!"

More and more Bible Believers would rather concentrate on DOING Christ instead of LOVING Christ!

It seems that most of the Great Commission folks - the modern Christian - even the modern Bible Believer (the gospel bunch or the grace users and abusers)- are leaning more and more towards a working sense of Christianity.

They just can't or won't learn how to deal with things they cannot understand (no I Corinthians 2:9-16 because of wrongly dividing) - so they spend their efforts on wanting to know what they can DO to be a Christian.

Christ is in the Background!
These people see certain obvious and plain commandments (or what they perceive to be right - if it feels good to them, etc.), or what appears to be obvious commandments (wrongly divided) and try to obey them.  And to that person, those commandments are central to him/her and Christ Himself personally is just a sort of shadow in the background.  He is their Saviour, but that is all He is!

It is about themselves instead of Christ
These are folks who rest their salvation on themselves rather than on Christ Himself.  Of course, we want to believe all the doctrines correctly and do our best to obey them.  But, we can put too much stress on what we believe or what we do, and so are we not just resting our salvation and our own Christianity on ourselves?

Jesus Christ, as our Saviour, is not just a doctrine, or just a commandment, .  HE is the basis of our hope - our walk is not!

I'll say it again!
We must not minimize the necessity of believing right doctrines. However, being a Christian is LOVING CHRIST AS A PERSON rather than just believing this or that doctrine, or obeying this or that commandment.  It is not like the modern versions say in I John 4:19 - we should love HIM because he first loved us!

Sour towards others!
We believe doctrines and obey commandments - Paul's gospel, etc.  as unto Christ.  But we must not love them more than we love Him.  If we over-love a doctrine / teaching, etc. , we are apt to grow cross and grumpy and sour toward those who do not agree with our doctrine.

If we love Christ as a Person, we will grow with Him as He would have us grow
& show us how to help others to grow closer with him, not just to do right - Galatians 2:20.

Legalism
Even if our beliefs are Scripturally sound, there is such a thing as exalting some truth about Christ above Christ Himself.  This is where Legalism and Holiness can take a person into bondage. II Peter 2:18-22

Only his word is magnified above his name!
...for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
Psalm 138:2

Knocking Knocking
This is also why in the last days, with Christ is knocking on our door (Revelation 3:20) to talk with us - there are still  those folks who are trying to do 'right' in their walk, or even just aiming for it, but who are still having frustrations and difficult times with all of this Rightly Dividing with Paul.

We got rid of our "talk only" and added the walk, but now we need to learn to listen to HIM talk!

How we handle His very WORDS to us is in direct proportion to our closeness with Him!
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.
Song of Solomon 1:2
His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.
Song of Solomon 5:16
And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly,
causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.  Song of Solomon 7:9

Are you just 'reading a Book'...
...or are you allowing Him to talk TO you
as He sups WITH you?
- TO YOU as He is WITH YOU -
Revelation 3:20

Christ is in us and speaks to us through the Holy Spirit (John 14,16)...
His written words (I Thessalonians 2:12, Hebrews 4:12,13)...
and through Paul (Romans-Philemon)!

It is just like homeschooling...
Do you homeschool for the purpose of a 'better education' for your kids...
...or for the sake of being a close family?

Is homeschooling the most important thing in your family?
Is homeschooling the dominant force and design in your home?
Are your children your gods?
Are you missing the whole purpose and blessing of homeschooling?

See the point?

I have come to learn the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:26 - (and I have not yet attained, as Paul also said), yet it has changed the way I think.

It has affected my awareness of things such as church, churches, religions, denominations - (even our own!!!) - the world & politics - my own reading and studying - my preaching and teaching as a pastor (and for some of you, "your pastor,") etc.

My ensample
Paul has become a real person to me - truly my apostle (Ephesians 4:11) - one who has known Christ face to face...  He had his hurts, his frustrations, his concerns and successful and wasted efforts towards other people.  He has his doctrines & his gospel.  They have all become so real - and this all has given me an understanding that I never thought possible.  This understanding should bring me closer to Christ as a person!  Paul is my ensample as to how to attain that closeness with Christ!

Now - the burden I can't get rid of is for others to grow into that understanding!
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name.  But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.  Jeremiah 20:9

Yet, I must remember to still keep God more important than even other folks!

Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

God has shown 'me' things - thyself - now, to help others put God - through Christ (John 14:6) through Paul, the Book, the Holy Spirit - first in their lives - even over & above their new Christian walk! (never forgetting II Timothy 2:22-24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,  In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.)

Sermon body:
Remember Paul's great prayers for us - and how we can actually look to those for our children - and for me towards you folks as the pastor and for us towards our web family?
Ephesians 1:16-19
Ephesians 3:14-19
Philippians 1:9-11
Colossians 1:9-12

Paul has another desire for us:
See Colossians 2:1-3 - For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;  That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

1.  That our hearts might be comforted
a.  being knit together in love,
b.  and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding

And according to verse 4, And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. if we can get a grip on those verses, then we will not be beguiled with enticing words - according to verse 8 words of man's wisdom that would spoil us through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ!

Sermon in outline format from here on:

beguile - 1.  To elude by craft.  2.  To elude any thing disagreeable by amusement, or other means; to pass pleasingly; to amuse.

Antichrist works his craft...  Daniel 8:25  And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

We are not to be beguiled - II Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Eve was beguiled...
Genesis 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

We can be beguiled too:
a.  was good for food
(the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod - Mark 8:15)
b.  pleasant to the eyes
c.  desire to make one wise

we will take the poisoned fruit and be beguiled!

Today - the hour of temptation!  Great time to be beguiled!
Revelation 3:10
Trials today are of our faith - just before the Tribulation.
I Peter 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
I Peter 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
Revelation 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
James 1:12-16 - beguiled to die!   Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.  Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.

Colossians 2:1-3 will keep me from being beguiled so we would know the right Christ!
For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;  That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;  In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Knowing Christ personally by rightly dividing, will give us the
Riches of the Full Assurance of Understanding
Rightly dividing will keep me from increasing ungodliness
and will give me that full assurance of Understanding, exactly as Paul preaches to us!

Benefits and results of having the full assurance of understanding:
