verse 9
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and
seen in me, do:
Those things that we have learned from Paul...
Those things that we have received from Paul...
Those things that we have heard from Paul...
Those things that we have seen in Paul...
DO THEM!!!
... and the God of peace shall be
with you.
So then, let's Rejoice
in the Lord alway:
and again I say, Rejoice.
Yes, as we are careful to maintain good works and stay in close prayer with God, there will still be weeping, and we not only rejoice together, we must weep together, too.
P.S. Paul weeps only when it is over 'others!'
See Philippians
3:18,19 - (For many walk, of whom
I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the
enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is
their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
II Corinthians 2:4
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many
tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which
I have more abundantly unto you.
II Timothy 1:4
Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be
filled with joy;
Over His brethren!
- He rejoiced or weeped over them!
II Corinthians 2:1-4 But
I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same
which is made sorry by me? And I wrote this same unto you, lest,
when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice;
having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many
tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love
which I have more abundantly unto you.
But it was not easy... II Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
II Corinthians 7:16 - I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.
In Protecting the Brethren!
Philippians 3:1 Finally,
my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me
indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.
Changed Lives from His Preaching!
II Corinthians 7:8,9 -
For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did
repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though
it were but for a season. Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry,
but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly
manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
At any Mention of the Name of Christ!
(except a false Christ)
Philippians 1:18 -
What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth,
Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
But he warned about the false christs! Galatians 1:6-9; II Corinthians 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
His Efforts Were Not in Vain!
Philippians 2:15,16
- That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without
rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine
as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may
rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured
in vain.
I Thessalonians 2:1
For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance
in unto you, that it was not in vain:
Galatians 4:11 -
I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
I Thessalonians 3:5 - For
this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith,
lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
I Corinthians 15:1,2 - Moreover,
brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which
also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are
saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed
in vain.
I Corinthians 15:14 -
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith
is also vain.
I Corinthians 15:17 -
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
Galatians 2:2
- used wisdom... And I went up
by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among
the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any
means I should run, or had run, in vain.
also concerned about our efforts... I Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
That God and the People Would Need and Use
Him!
Philippians 2:17
Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith,
I joy, and rejoice with you all.
II Timothy 4:6-8 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
And still, even at his end, notice that he was
still thinking of others... but unto
all them also that love his appearing.
