Prudent - Cautious; circumspect; practically wise; careful
of the consequences of enterprises, measures or actions; cautious not to
act when the end is of doubtful utility, or probably impracticable.
-
1. Dictated or directed by prudence; as prudent behavior.
-
2. Foreseeing by instinct; as the prudent crane.
-
3. Frugal; economical; as a prudent woman; prudent expenditure
of money.
-
4. Wise; intelligent.
David - prudent in matters!
-
I Samuel 16:18:
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son
of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant
man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person,
and the LORD is with him.
-
Not many musicians, IF ANY, like David today!
Proverbial Wisdom on being prudent
Comments to each verse takes place
in the audio
-
Proverbs 12:16:
A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
-
Proverbs 12:23:A
prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth
foolishness.
-
Proverbs 13:16:Every
prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.
-
Proverbs 14:8:The
wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools
is deceit.
-
Proverbs 14:15:
The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to
his going.
-
Why do we go into denial about the future?
-
Why do we ignore the truth of the coming weeks, months,
years?
-
If in doubt, don't - or if in doubt, try it - maybe
it will feel good?
-
Proverbs 14:18: The
simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
-
Proverbs 15:5: A
fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof
is prudent.
-
Proverbs 16:21: The
wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips
increaseth learning.
-
Proverbs 18:15: The
heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh
knowledge.
-
Proverbs 19:14:
House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a prudent wife is
from the LORD.
-
Proverbs 22:3: A
prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple
pass on, and are punished.
-
Proverbs 27:12:A
prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple
pass on, and are punished.
-
Why are we not wanting to be 'prudent about matters'
as was David?
-
II Thessalonians 3:3 -
we have to turn to our KJB to keep us from evil. We must make a choice!
-
II Timothy 4:18 -
yes, He delivers us from evil by telling us how to do so - and from what
we should turn away from. Again, we must make a choice - there is
no 'magic Jesus' who will stop us from anything these days.
Old Testament - antichrist references
-
Isaiah 5:21: Woe
unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own
sight!
-
See Paul's writing in I
Corinthians 1:19 to see the importance
of this verse: For it is written, I
will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding
of the prudent.
-
Isaiah 10:13:
For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom;
for
I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have
robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant
man:
-
Isaiah 29:14:
Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people,
even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall
perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.
-
Isaiah 52:13:
Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and
extolled, and be very high.
-
Jeremiah 49:7: Concerning
Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is
counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?
-
Hosea 14:9: Who
is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he
shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the
just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.
-
Amos 5:13: Therefore
the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
-
This is important to consider during our 'almost'
Tribulation times.
-
Paul knew not to always 'speak' - we can learn to
do the same - we are in an evil time and getting worse!
-
Galatians 2:1,2; 4-9
-
I Corinthians 1:20,21; 28-29
Jesus and the worldly prudent
-
Matthew 11:25:
At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven
and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent,
and hast revealed them unto babes.
-
Luke 10:21: In
that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord
of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and
prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so
it seemed good in thy sight.
Paul on prudence
-
Acts 13:7: Which
was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man;
who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
-
This man's prudence led him to believed what Paul
told him about the Risen Saviour!
-
verse 12: Then
the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the
doctrine of the Lord.
-
Many lost people today have better prudence than
those of us who are saved and claiming a trust in following the Risen Saviour
through Paul's writings.
-
I Corinthians 1:19:
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring
to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
-
Why? Because they were prudent in their own
mind - not following Scriptures, just what they think is right or wrong,
etc.
-
Isaiah 5:21: Woe
unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own
sight!
