divided Prayer - Paul
Part
II
|
Ok, so now, let's look to who we are suppose to concerning prayer!
PAUL!
see part
I for the 'introduction and preliminary sermon notes!
People AND pastors, pastorettes, etc. have such a poor understanding
of Paul...
they really don't understand Paul's writings when compared to Jesus
Christ's teachings.
I have become to see more of II Corinthians
12:15 in Paul's life and what people think about him today!
And I will very gladly spend and be spent
for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
He (and we) have actually become the enemy with
what Paul teaches!
Galatians 4:16 Am
I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
Maybe the following verses can
actually give us a better understanding about:
1) prayer in our own personal Christian lifestyle/walk
2) others and their false claims concerning prayer and
how to talk to them about it.
3) Paul - for further reference and desire to learn from
Paul!
Paul 'always' prayed for his folks
- US!
-
Romans 1:9 ...
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his
Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

... I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of
God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
-

... Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and
love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making
mention of you in my prayers;

... I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, Always
in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

II Timothy 1:3 ...
I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that
without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
-
Philemon 1:4 ...
I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
He tells us pray - no mention of
signs & wonders, etc. - just pray!
Paul's point? Prayer is fellowship with Christ
- without ceasing.
He is in us and we are in him - we don't have to resort
to OT prayer style!
Prayer is not a formula with an 'equals' on the end...
See I Corinthians 1:9
Philippians 3:8-12
Paul wants us to have a 24/7 close & personal prayer life with Jesus
Christ!
How can anyone 'get mad' at Paul's teachings? They are from Jesus
Christ, anyway!
Contrary to the Prayer of Jabez crowd, it is not about "us!" It
is about Him!
-
Romans 12:12 ...
... continuing instant in prayer;
-
Ephesians 6:18 ...
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,
(part of the armour of God)
-

... I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men... I will therefore
that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
-
I Thessalonians 5:17
... Pray without ceasing.
He tells you how to pray for your
pastor, evangelists, etc.!
(This is great "type" for the family in knowing how to pray specifically
for 'dad'!)
-
Romans 15:30-32 ...
Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for
the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers
to God for me; That I may be delivered from them that do not believe
in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted
of the saints; That I may come unto you with joy by the will
of God, and may with you be refreshed.
-
Colossians 4:3
... Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of
utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
That
I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
-
I Thessalonians 5:25
... Brethren, pray for us.
-
II Thessalonians 3:1,2 ...
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free
course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And
that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all
men have not faith.
-
Philemon 1:22
... But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through
your prayers I shall be given unto you.
For your pastor (dads),
pray that ...
... he be delivered from them that do not believe!
... his service which he has for the body of
Christ may be accepted of the saints!
... he may come unto you with joy - by the will
of God!
... he may be refreshed just like you are to
be!
... God would open unto him a door of utterance
to preach what he needs to preach!
... the word of the Lord may have free course!
... the word of the Lord may be glorified!
... he be delivered from unreasonable and wicked
men!
... you would take care of his lodging - make
him comfortable, etc.!
Paul's specific prayer requests
for us!
(This is more typology showing the best stuff you will find on what
exactly a father
should be praying and striving to accomplish concerning his children!!!)
-
I Corinthians 1:3-7
... Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord
Jesus Christ. I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace
of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing
ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: So that
ye
come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
-
II Corinthians 1:7...
And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of
the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.
-

18:
The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling,
and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19: And

at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
-
Ephesians 3:14-19 ...For

Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16:
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be
strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17:
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being
rooted and grounded in love, 18:
May be
able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length,
and depth, and height; 19: And
to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might
be
filled with all the fulness of God.
-
Philippians 1:9-11 ...
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge
and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent;
that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus
Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
-
Colossians 1:9-12 ...
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray
for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of
his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might
walk
worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good
work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened

that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in
all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight
of God our Saviour;

How can folks get mad at Paul?
How can folks get mad at their pastor?
How can kids be mad at their parents?
Our Prayers are Important to God
- and to us!
But they must be rightly divided!
Ephesians 3:20,21 ...
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that
we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto
him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world
without end. Amen.
