DOES Paul Preach to Timothy Then to Us? |
Pastoral
Suicide Series - The "Do's and Don'ts from Paul to Timothy and Titus
Part V
June

For
bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all
things,
having
promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
This
is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
I Timothy
4:8,9

Benefits
from Physically Following Paul
Continuing
previous sermons on the benefits of following Paul,
with emphasis,
of course, in I, II Timothy
and Titus!
VI.
You will have great things to remember - meditate!
I Timothy
4:15,16 - Meditate upon these things; give
thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
Instead
of music, TV, your past, etc.
hard to not think
of our past or earthly things, etc. because we all certainly have one and
have 'things' and concerns!
As Paul did...
Acts 26:4 -
My
manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation
at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;
Galatians 1:13,14
- For ye have heard of my conversation
in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted
the church of God, and wasted it: And profited in the Jews' religion
above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous
of the traditions of my fathers.
...so do we!
Ephesians 2:2,3
- Wherein in time past ye walked according
to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the
air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among
whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our
flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by
nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Ephesians 2:11,12
-
Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who
are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the
flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens
from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise,
having no hope, and without God in the world:
But now we have
new things to think on - to meditate on, etc.
I Timothy 4:15,16
- Meditate upon these things; give thyself
wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
II Corinthians
10:5 - Casting down imaginations, and every
high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing
into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
1.
Paul's ways!
-
I Corinthians
4:17 - For this cause have I sent unto
you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall
bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every
where in every church.
-
Philippians
4:8,9 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things
are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever
things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of
good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think
on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received,
and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
-
II Timothy
3:10 - But thou hast fully known my doctrine,
manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
-
I Corinthians
11:2 - Now I praise you, brethren, that
ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them
to you.
-
then - preI
Corinthians 13:8-10 - that is rightly
dividing Paul, too!
2. Christ's
death as well as His resurrection!
-
I Corinthians
11:24,25 - And when he had given thanks,
he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for
you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the
cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood:
this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
-
This is one very
good reason why we still are encouraged to read the Gospels
-
Isaiah 53
-
Romans
3. Each
other!
-
Philippians
1:3 -7 - I thank my God upon every
remembrance of you, Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request
with joy, For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until
now; Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun
a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you
in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation
of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace.
4. Paul's
Epistles and all that his people did / said - personally!
-
I Thessalonians
3:6-8 - But now when Timotheus came from
you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and
that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us,
as we also to see you: Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you
in all our affliction and distress by your faith: For now we live, if ye
stand fast in the Lord.
-
I Thessalonians
2:9 - For ye remember, brethren, our labour
and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable
unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.
5. Words
of faith and good doctrine!
-
I Timothy 4:6
- If thou put the brethren in remembrance
of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished
up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
-
What are "these
things" you ask? - read the context, of course.
6. A
good prayer life!
-
II Timothy
1:3 - I thank God, whom I serve from my
forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance
of thee in my prayers night and day;
-
I Thessalonians
5:17 - Pray without ceasing.
7. Stir
up with the Bible!
-
II Timothy
1:6 - Wherefore I put thee in remembrance
that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of
my hands.
-
I Corinthians
13:10 - But when that which is perfect
is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
-
We are not the
anointed ones today, the KJB is. See I
John 2:7. Yes, they were anointed
in the Gospels
and II Corinthians 1:21
- but that was all before the KJB -
I Corinthians 13:10.
They will be anointed in the Tribulation again, too - but they will be
able to unanoint themselves as well - thus the need for confessing sins,
etc.
8. Unfeigned
faith and where it came from!
-
II Timothy
1:5,6 - When I call to remembrance the
unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois,
and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. Wherefore
I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in
thee by the putting on of my hands.
-
I Timothy 1:5
- Now the end of the commandment is charity
out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
-
II Timothy
1:14 - That good thing which was committed
unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
9. Proper
things to study for profiting!
-
II Timothy
2:14-16 - Of these things put them
in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about
words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to
shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings:
for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
-
Once again, take
the time to find out what 'these things' are by noting the context.
10. Remember
what the Lord said about helping the weak - the poor!
-
Acts 20:35
-
I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support
the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It
is more blessed to give than to receive.
-
Paul also said
it.
-
II Corinthians
9:7 - Every man according as he purposeth
in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God
loveth a cheerful giver.
-
Romans 15:1
- We then that are strong ought to bear
the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
-
I Thessalonians
5:14 - Now we exhort you, brethren, warn
them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient
toward all men.
-
I Corinthians
8:9 - But take heed lest by any means this
liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
-
I Corinthians
8:11,12 - And through thy knowledge shall
the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? But when ye sin so against
the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
-
II Corinthians
13:4 - For though he was crucified through
weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him,
but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.
