For
bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all
things,
having
promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
This
is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

Benefits
from Following Paul Physically - the 'Walk.'
Continuing
on from last week's part
I on the benefits of following Paul,
with emphasis,
of course, in I, II Timothy
and Titus!
Is BEING
a True Bible Believing & Walking Christian possible today?
-
Remembering that
'Doing Paul' is far more than just 'Doing Christianny Things.' It
is BEING a Christian, and that puzzles most folks, it seems these days.
-
Or, is this stuff
just too "archaic" for Christians today?
The Reason
it is so hard for so many:
-
Modern Christianty
today - no serious Bible, thus no detailed guide on even being a Christian!
-
Being brought
up under the Great Commission / Gospels style of Christianity, one seldom
knows what to DO to truly please God.
-
Great Commission
brings in religion, 'Jesus magic,' no incentive to change or to grow
up!
-
Most of the time,
it appears that all one has to do today as a Christian is 'tell someone
about Jesus' and how they "need Jesus in their life," etc.
-
The final authority
to most folks today, (if they are willing to have any authority
at all), is their pastor / or church teachings.
-
To think of this
Book being our guide to 'do's and don'ts AS WELL AS the Being's - well,
that is almost unheard of even from the Paul folks out there.
-
So afraid of being
labeled judgmental!
-
So afraid of being
legalistic
-
So afraid of being
forced to live by the letter of the law!
-
So afraid of actually
having to 'change' their physical manner of living and their personal &
public testimony!
-
Romans 7:15-23
-
we are wretched, eh! Just gentile dogs in the flesh, but sons of
God on the inside!
Paul Epistles
- all of them - hard as they are to our flesh, they are important to us
today!
-
Our guide:
-
Thus this sermon
series on Timothy and Titus - there are plenty of things in there to help
guide us to being Christian parents, spouses and kids, etc.
-
Being a Christian
according to a Risen Saviour
-
Paul not only
tells us about the risen Christ, and he not only tells us all that Christ
has done since he has risen, etc. we also learn that there are plenty of
things that we need to learn about BEING a Christian.
-
Difficult benefits
-
See part
I for the difficult benefits that will come when one tries to BE
a Bible Believing Christian today, not just some preacher / denomination
follower!
-
uh, not having
any difficulty in your own manner of life? hmmmmmmm
Here
are more results of what happens if we follow Paul - including what he
said to Timothy and Titus.

Be able to stop the mouths of gainsayers!
-
Titus 1:8-13
-
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able
by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they
of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert
whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's
sake. One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians
are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true.
Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable,
and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
-
I Corinthians
1:27,28 - But
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the
wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound
the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things
which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to
bring
to nought things that are:
-
Do not argue,
etc.!
-
Remember, however,
instead of just arguing or yelling with them and claiming an arrogant victory,
even if they don't agree, Paul's way shows them it isn't 'us' that is correct
on these issues, but it is the King James Bible.
-
II Timothy
2:23-26 -
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender
strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto
all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that
oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the
acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves
out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
-
Power of God -
the KJB.
-
I Corinthians
2:4,5 - And my speech and my preaching
was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the
Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of
men, but in the power of God.
-
The victory is
His, not mine - whether or not the 'listener' accepts it, he has been told!
-
The Scriptures
say - the word of the Lord says, God's Word says, God's words say...
-
not - "He says;"
"my pastor says," "I think..."
II.
Have the right kind of friends!
(if
you have any at all - so don't make that your priority - you could be miserable
looking for them!)
-
Maybe the reason
YOU don't have any friends is because of YOU, not them!
-
Froward and whisperers
are not good friends!
-
Proverbs 16:28
- A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer
separateth chief friends.
-
People with angry
lives are not good friends!
-
Proverbs 22:24
- Make no friendship with an angry man;
and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
-
Proverbs 21:19
- It is better to dwell in the wilderness,
than with a contentious and an angry woman.
-
Proverbs 26:21
- As coals are to burning coals, and wood
to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
-
Proverbs 27:15
- A continual dropping in a very rainy
day and a contentious woman are alike.
-
A good friend!
-
Proverbs 27:6
- Faithful
are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
-
Proverbs 18:24
- A man that hath friends must shew himself
friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
-
Grace keeps friends
-
Proverbs 22:11:
He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall
be his friend.
-
Hearty counsel
comes from a friend!
-
Proverbs 27:9
- Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart:
so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
-
We can grow from
a friend!
-
Proverbs 27:17
- Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth
the countenance of his friend.
-
Friends should
be refreshing!
-
Acts 27:3 -
And
the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul,
and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself.
-
II Timothy
1:15-18
-
Sometimes it is
hard, but we must even withdraw from friends, if it becomes necessary!
-
II Thessalonians
3:6,11-16
-
Sometimes, and
for more and more folks, there are not any friends around to be had!
-
Amos 8:11-13
-
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in
the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing
the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from
the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word
of the LORD, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins
and young men faint for thirst.
-
This is a serious
but sometimes necessary final departure - and must be done if 'life as
is' takes away peace from the home!
-
I Corinthians
7:15 - But
if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not
under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
