More from Paul on "Sin"
"That Which Will Burn" according to Paul in Ephesians

We Are to Work Out Our Salvation
And what a workout it is these days!
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only,
but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Philippians 2:12

See Part I for the Introduction.

Now, on to what Paul says about the things that we do 'wrong'
but yet knowing we can't call this stuff sin!
(note that it is just that sin within, it is not us!)

We should do things that makes us acceptable and approved unto God, amen?

II Timothy 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  Shew it means people will see it - the walk!

II Corinthians 10:18  For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Romans 12:1,2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.   And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.  Prove it in in your talk AND in your walk!

Ephesians 5:8-11  For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:  (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)  Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.  And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.  This will be done literally in the Millennium and beyond, (see Psalms and the word 'light') but for now, our daily walk is what is being challenged here, to walk the LIGHT OF THE BOOK!  Psalm 119:105, 130

This is What Won't Go Away Until It Burns!
The following verses show what will burn during our Judgment Seat of Christ:
(a personal study of this list will show you what NOT to do as a Christian!)

Now if any man build upon this foundation
gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it,
because it shall be revealed by fire;
and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved;
yet so as by fire.
I Corinthians 3:12-15

The nature of Ephesians is such that not only will be see the 'wrong things' that Paul comments on, we will see plenty of the 'right things' as well.   Isn't it interesting that the way that we are going through this whole series of 'sin' and how much it is truly 'gone,' even though it still exists in us - that such emphasis and applications were as equally hard for the Jews of Paul's day as it is for Christians to hear today?   In other words, there are Judaizers today as were there then.

Now in Ephesians, Paul teaches us about the "good" and "bad" things that we should do or not do as Christians. We see without doubt that it is the book on the local church, the universal church as well as on the family - and no better folks that need to hear about the walk, eh!

Always remember, that for Paul, he did meet with Christ Himself - and so this is not just some stuff that Paul conjures up!  This is from the Lord Himself, thus the reason we can say we still follow the teachings of Jesus Christ - but only through Paul, not in the Gospels.

Ephesians 1:17-19  Do the opposite of these verses: cease in giving thanks for others in your prayers.

Ephesians 1:13
don't be where there is the word of truth, don't be where there is the gospel of your salvation being preached or mentioned.  If it is, then don't listen, don't believe, don't trust!  You won't be sealed and YOU will burn because you WILL still have your own sins you will die in!
Ephesians 2:1-7
Is walking according to the course of this world  really in your past or are you still doing it?  Why walk the walk the the devil gets his own children to walk: fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind - they are by nature the children of wrath - why choose ye to still go down that walk - that part of our nature has been taken care of by Jesus Christ!  See Ephesians 5:8 and I Thessalonians 5:5. John 12:36 was the light then, now where is the light?  Psalm 119:105, 130 for the Bible today.  Also note Psalm 104:1,2 in regards to garments of light, etc.  Psalm 89:15 shows that we should walk in the light of His countenance... Psalm 43:3 - a good prayer that we see how God answered it...  Psalm 36:9 - we see light in His light... Psalm 27:1 - The LORD is my light and my salvation...
Ephesians 3:13
faint at the tribulations of others, yourself, etc.  In other words - 'give up,' etc.  You won't and can't go 'back,' but you can 'give up!'  But don't!  He didn't ever give up nor will he for you!  Philippians 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:  Philippians 2:13  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Ephesians 4:1,2
walk a walk 'not' worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called - and that is WITHOUT lowliness and meekness, WITHOUT longsuffering, NOT forbearing one another in love...
Ephesians 4:3,4
Do your best to stir the waters... rock  the boat instead of endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit...  Proverbs 6:19b ...he that soweth discord among brethren.
Ephesians 4:7
don't be willing to give out grace yourself, even though you have received more than you deserves, amen?  amen!  See Hebrews 13:9 - GRACE!
Ephesians 4:12
Ignore, reject, 'dare them to teach you something,' agree with them for someone else, though. etc.  Unless they are truly liars, correctors, 'anointed apostle claimers,' old prophets that are liars, etc.
Ephesians 4:14
Beware:  are you being tossed to and fro, and being carried about with every wind of doctrine?  Have you gotten anything settled spiritually and scripturally?

See Ephesians 5:6 - let no man deceive you! God gave you the Book and He has taught you rightly dividing!  You have no excuse now!

Are you able to be deceived still?  See Ephesians 5:6,7
beware of: vain words, good words, fair speeches, sleight of men, cunning craftiness, enticing words of man's wisdom,  having men's persons in admiration because of advantage (great personalities), philosophy & vain deceit, wisdom of words.
Beware: see Matthew 7:15; 16:6,11,12; Mark 8:15; 12:38; Luke 12:1,15; 20:46; Phil 3:2; II Peter 3:17 (fall from your own stedfastness (not "into sin, though" - by the way!!!)

Ephesians 4:16
Be the point of spiritual arthritis in the joints of the assembly - be the pain in the neck, etc.  Do someone else's part (especially if YOU do it better than them!).  You can be a help OR a pain!
Ephesians 4:17-19 are you walking as other gentiles walk - in the vanity of their mind?  By doing it THEIR OWN WAY, a) Their understanding is darkened, b) they are alienated from the life of God, c) they are ignorant, d) their heart is blinded, e) they are past feeling and f) they have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness - it is all a result of not having heard and learned from Christ - the KJB - that you should put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, etc.  If you keep the old conversation and do things YOUR OWN WAY, those things will burn!  (remember Gal 2:20; Philippians 1:6, etc)
Ephesians 4:22-24
keep the old man on - even though he is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts... NOT be renewed in the spirit of your mind - stay out of the Book - keep that dirty walk and mouth and worldliness in your appearance and actions, etc. etc. and more etc.
Ephesians 4:25-32
What a list!  Paul leaves no doubt here as what we should NOT do as a Christian!  It all ends up in 5:5 as it mentions the inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Ephesians 4:27
give place to the devil - he would love mess up your inheritance!
Ephesians 4:29
let corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth - don't edify others and don't minister grace to anyone!  You will have a great fire in your judgment!
Ephesians 4:30
grieve the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 4:31
let bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour and evil speaking NOT be put away from you...
Ephesians 4:32
don't be kind to one another, don't be tenderhearted, forgiving one another - even thought God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you!
Ephesians 5:1
Be an imitator instead of a follower!  VERY dangerous in that if you are an imitation Christian, YOU WILL burn!  Imitation Christians result from imitation preachers preaching an imitation gospel from an imitation bible in imitation churches led by the imitation spirit giving folks an imitation peace - all from the REAL DEVIL!
Ephesians 5:2+ another long list of don't's - again, Paul leaves no confusion as to what our walk should NOT be!
walk opposite Christ's walk (rightly divided, of course), again, we see the end result of these wicked works is losing inheritance in teh kingdom of Christ and of God - not one's salvation!
Ephesians 5:11,12
fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness (verses 7-10) - being partakers with them!
Ephesians 5:14-16
walk as a fool (this warrants a few extra sermons, eh!), wasting time in a world that is growing more evil every day!
Ephesians 6:12 go ahead, get caught up with the kingdom of heaven - fight against flesh and blood!  If God isn't in it, then it will just burn!

... this series is to be continued up to the end of Philemon
