If
Paul Would Come Back, What Would He Preach To Us?
|
Part I
Continuing in this 'series' of 'What If Paul Came Back' sermons...
...we look at what he would preach to us.
Today's sermon is brought to you by the letter 'G.'
I figure he would be treated much the same as he was
the first time around!
We know he would want to preach all that he wrote and would ask us,
"Are you?" "Why not?" or 'How are you doing?"
-
II Corinthians 10:15 -
Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours;
but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged
by you according to our rule abundantly,
-
His joy or his sorrow!
Our walk would be his joy or his sorrow for us - and would feel bad
that his labour was in vain for our sakes!
-
II Corinthians 2:4 -
For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many
tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which
I have more abundantly unto you.
He would find himself, again, either being loved or loved less after
he was done with his sermon 'series.'
-
II Corinthians 12:15 -
And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly
I love you, the less I be loved.
He would either be our friend or our enemy because he would tell us
all the truth.
-
Galatians 4:16 - Am
I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
-
It would be our call - this is the time folks will
not endure.
-
We couldn't take Paul coming back today.
He would ask us if we have taken advantage of having that which was
perfect so readily available!
And he would say the same thing he said the first time about his being
here for our benefit and his joy!
-
Philippians 1:20-27 - According
to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed,
but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified
in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ,
and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my
labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt
two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. And having
this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for
your furtherance and joy of faith; (he
would know that he has continued with us through the KJB)
That your rejoicing (do we have rejoicing
through Paul's writings? ) may be more
abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again. Only let your
conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come
and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand
fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the
gospel;
-
He would not find us standing fast in one spirit
- and he would not find us with one mind... just like he found back
then, he will find divisions... and striving with each other! (much
of it is someone trying to avoid, withdraw, having no company with, etc.
- Paul would be happy to see that, anyway!)
The same would apply towards us now as he preached then...
-
II Corinthians 1:24 - 2:1-11
So, let's look at a few things that even
'we' know
would need to be preached by Paul.
Gain
-
Acts 19:24 - For
a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines
for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;
-
money off the 'truth'
-
Proverbs 23:23 -
Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
-
even the KJB family movement - as they travel selling
their books for their income - or websites
-
(I am glad to be off that pressure)
-
especially the ones making money off of their music
as the draw, making the preaching secondary!
-
money off of false doctrine claiming to be the truth
-
but if people will buy that stuff, why not sell it,
right?
-
I Corinthians 9:19 - For
though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all,
that I might gain the more.
-
gain people to Paul's teachings!
-
I Corinthians 9:20 - And
unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that
are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under
the law;
-
those under the law, be it OT or the Gospel law!
-
Great Commission, etc. / Revelation gospel, etc.
-
Philippians 1:21 - For
to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
-
We have it backwards today, we want to 'live' now
and 'die' later!
-
I Timothy 6:5 - Perverse
disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing
that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
-
We watch their family wilderness movies - we buy
their books and their books even lead folks to the wrong gospel.
We think we need all this extra stuff!
-
Remember when Jesus told Peter to NOT tell anyone
He was the Christ, etc. - cuz God was the one telling people - Peter did
not read another book about Jesus, etc.
-
People need the KJB, not the other stuff!!!!!!!!!!
-
I Timothy 6:6 - But
godliness with contentment is great gain.
-
Not enduring sound doctrine - not enduring godliness!
-
Plenty of murmuring...
-
looking frumpy, it is too hot, it is fun, I don't
want to deny my kids the fun, it is what everyone else is doing - or
- nobody else is doing it... what does he know - he isn't perfect, either
- he didn't practice what he preached - it will cause too much trouble
in my family - I will lose my only friend...
-
Just say it - Admit it! - "I am ashamed of the
teachings of the Risen Saviour through Paul!"
-
Just say it - Admit it! - "I am ashamed of even
mentioning Paul as our apostle, etc."
-
Plenty of rebellion away from the preaching of the
truth -
-
I see, hear and read about it every day!
-
Plenty of people who claim the KJB and yet bash Paul
- who is IN their KJB!
-
Then there are those who believe it but just won't
do it - and they admit it!
Our Gathering Together
-
II Thessalonians 2:1 - Now
we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by
our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or
be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us,
as that the day of Christ is at hand.
-
They are words of comfort for us today as we are
to look for his appearing!
-
See II
Thessalonians 2:17
-
Rapture? I
Thessalonians 4:14-18
-
Second Coming?
I
Thessalonians 5:1-11; II Thessalonians 2:12
-
Which one do you wait for?
Gentiles
-
Matthew 10:5 - These
twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way
of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But
go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
-
Ephesians 2:12 - That
at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth
of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope,
and without God in the world:
-
Ephesians 4:17-18 - This
I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as
other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind...
Having the understanding darkened, being
alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because
of the blindness of their heart:
-
II Timothy 1:11 - Whereunto
I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
-
How would they refute / ignore / reject these verses
to Paul's face? Would we hear Paul say, "HELLO?"
-
Ephesians 3:1-7
-
Galatians 1:12
-
Romans 16:25
-
Acts 28:23-31
-
Acts 26:15-20
-
Would he remind us of his shipwreck story?
-
Acts 22:12-15
-
Acts 13:44-52
-
Acts 9:15-16
Being Gentle
-
I Thessalonians 2:7 - But
we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
-
II Timothy 2:24 - And
the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt
to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves;
if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the
truth;
-
Titus 3:2 - To
speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness
unto all men.
-
Yet, Paul knows there comes the time to change his
voice - reproove - rebuke and eventually reject!
-
I Timothy 5:20 - Them
that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
-
II Timotnhy 4:2 - Preach
the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort
with all longsuffering and doctrine.
-
Titus 1:13 - This
witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound
in the faith;
-
Titus 2:15 - These
things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise
thee.
-
But he would say you still don't have to strive at
the time of reproving, rebuking and rejecting!
What he has Given us
-
Romans 1:11 - For
I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the
end ye may be established;
-
See Romans 12,
NOT I Corinthians 12
-
Ephesians 4:8 - Wherefore
he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave
gifts unto men.
-
Ephesians 4:11 - And
he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers;
-
Romans 5:15-17 - But
not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence
of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace,
which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as
it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one
to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which
receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign
in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
-
Romans 6:23 - For
the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
-
Ephesians 2:8 -
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God:
-
Ephesians 3:7 -
Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God
given unto me by the effectual working of his power.
-
Ephesians 4:7 -
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the
gift of Christ.
Our Giving in Return
-
I Corinthians 3:7 - So
then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but
God that giveth the increase.
-
II Corinthians 9:7 - Every
man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly,
or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
-
Colossians 3:17 - And
whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
-
I Timothy 4:13 - Till
I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
-
I Timothy 4:15 -
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting
may appear to all.
-
Titus 1:14 - Not
giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the
truth.
-
I Timothy 4:1 - Now
the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart
from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Glad
-
Acts 11:23 - Who,
when he (who is this
referring to?) came, and had
seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose
of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.
-
II Corinthians 12:9 -
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is
made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in
my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
-
II Corinthians 2:2 - For
if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which
is made sorry by me?
-
Or would Paul eventually avoid us? withdraw
from us? have no company with us?
Glorify
-
Romans 15:6 -
That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
-
Galatians 1:24 - And
they glorified God in me.
-
II Thessalonians 1:10 - When
he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them
that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
Glorious
-
Liberty
-
Romans 8:21 - Because
the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption
into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
-
Gospel of Christ
-
II Corinthians 4:4 - In
whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe
not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image
of God, should shine unto them.
-
Church
-
Ephesians 5:27 - That
he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle,
or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
-
Our body someday
-
Philippians 3:21 - Who
shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious
body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things
unto himself.
-
His glorious power
-
Colossians 1:11 - Strengthened
with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and
longsuffering with joyfulness;
-
Gospel of the blessed God
-
I Timothy 1:11 - According
to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
-
Appearing
-
Titus 2:13 - Looking
for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and
our Saviour Jesus Christ;
