Paul's Life Experiences Review I
Acts 9-18
Summary Observations:
1.  Many tried to kill him, stone him, harass him, take him to court, jail him, ran him out of town.
2.  He went back to some of them to 'try again.'
3.  The brethren helped him and protected him through those situations.  He had many loyal helpers.
4.  The brethren themselves were challenged and harassed, as well.
5.  Some things he did then, we don't do today - some are still an issue.
6.  The word of God grew and multiplied through these times.
7.  Churches were established and increased in number.
8.  Both Jews and Gentiles saw signs, etc.
9.  Jews continued to reject Paul's message, but some did accept him.
10.  Paul always just kept moving on through it all.
11.  Paul's gospel meant loss of financial gain for those making money off of the Lord's work, etc.
12.  Paul preached a specific Christ - "this is very Christ," "that this Jesus is Christ," "Jesus was Christ."
13.  He identified imitations - another spirit, etc.
14.  Spoke boldly and with confidence - sometimes not holding back his peace.
15.  Blinded as well as healed.
16.  Traveled often adn to many places.
17.  Willing to be part of the Jews in order to get some time with them.
18.  Got upset at being worshipped.
19.  Confirmed and strengthened others.
20.  Dealt with 'churches' but never any specific 'church'
21.  Participated in 'testimony' time.
22.  Preached a couple of great sermons - along with Peter and James.
23.  Picked his 'associate' carefully.
24.  Allowed the Holy Ghost direct him - even if meant NOT to go some direction.
25.  His heart was stirred and pressed about other folks.

Summary Details / Comments / References
7:58; 8:1-3; 9:1 Persecuted the 'church' - was present & willing participant at Stephens stoning; part of scattering the Jews; made havock of the church, entering into every house, etc. breathed out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord - and hunted them down!
9:3-9 His 'salvation' was truly an experience.
9:10-18 Met by Ananias - strengthened and baptized.
9:19-22 preached Christ in the synagogues that Christ is the Son of God; amazed the listeners; increased in strength and confound the Jews, proving that 'this is very Christ.'

9:25 The disciples helped him escape

9:27-28 Barnabas helps Saul be accepted by the apostles - how Saul had seen the Lord, spoken to him and preached boldly!

13:5 Preached in synagogues to the Jews in Salamis - along with John.
13:6-12 Met up with the Jewish sorcerer Bar-Jesus - blinded him.  That witness 'style' was a good testimony to the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus - the very many who even called for Paul and Barnabas in the first place (vs 7) - he was desirous to hear the word of God!
13:13,14 On the 'road' again - they left Paphos on to Perga in Pamphylia - and then on to Antioch.  (John left for Jerusalem)
13:14-414 In Antioch in Pisidia, they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and was given a chance to give a word of exhortation.  He ends that 'sermon' with quite a conclusion in verses 38-41
13:42 When the Jews left, the Gentiles asked him to come and preach to them the next sabbath.
13:43 When that group left, many of the Jews and religious proselytes talked with them some more.
13:44 That next week, the whole city gathered together to hear Paul preach the word of God.
13:45-49 The Jews were filled with envy and gave Paul a hard time.  Paul and Barnabas's response was a strong one - they said they were going on to the Gentiles.  The Gentiles were glad - many were saved... and they took the word of the Lord throughout the region - they were good testimonies and witnesses.
13:50 The Jews responded by stirring up the honorable women and the chief men of the city.  They then kicked Paul and Barnabas out of their coasts.
13:51-52 So, Paul and Barnabas went onto Iconium.  The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Ghost.
14:1 In Iconium, again in the synagogues - many Jews and Greeks believed.
14:2-5 The unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles again.  So, Paul and Barnabas stayed that much longer and preached that much harder - even granted signs and wonders to show the Jews they were from God, etc.  But - plans were made for a stoning.
14:6,7 Paul and Barnabas fled unto Lystra and Derbe and preached the gospel.
14:8-10 Paul heals a man in Lystra who is impotent in his feet because the man had enough faith to be healed.
14:11-18 The crowd tried to worship Paul and Barnabas as gods.
14:19 Certain Jews stirred the people to stone Paul to death.
14:20 Paul stood up as the disciples stood round about him - and went into the city, then departing the next day with Barnabas to Derbe.
14:21-23 After preaching and teaching, they eventually went back to Lystra and to Iconium and Antioch confirming and exhorting, and warning them about the persecution that will come because of this message on the Kingdom of God, etc.  They ordained elders in every church -
14:24-26 On throughout Pisidia and Pamphylia - they preached the word - then down into Attalia, onward to Antioch - which is from where this whole venture started from.
14:27,28 A time of testimony with the church.
15:1-4 Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with certain men who came down from Judea.  Those men then took Paul and Barnabas to Jerusalem - to the 'higher ups.'  As they traveled, they caused great joy unto all the brethren - the Gentiles.
15:5 Even the believing Pharisees tried to still push the circumcision - and disputing arose.
15:6-11 Peter does the preaching this time.
15:12 After Peter was done with them, they were ready to listen to Paul and Barnabas as they gave their testimony concerning the Gentiles.
15:13-29 Now, James jumps in to help the Jews why the Gentiles are now being involved.
15:30-35 They went on to Antioch, they preached again.  Now, Judas and Silas exhorted the brethren... and confirmed them as well.  They all stayed in Antioch to teach and preach, with many others.
15:36 Paul decides to head out again - and visit folks they had preached to before.
15:37-41 Contention developed because Paul said it was not good for Mark to go with them.  So, they split up, one with Mark and one with Silas and went on confirming the churches.
16:1-5 In Derbe and Lystra, Paul meets up with Timotheus and has him circumcised - and saw some churches established in the faith and increased in number daily.
16:6-8 They were prohibited to go East by the Holy Ghost.
16:9-13 Paul has a vision to go to Macedonia and so they all immediately to endeavor to into Macedonia and meet a bunch of women by the river.  (see verse 10 for the word 'we' - must be Luke speaking (see Acts 1:1; Luke 1:3)
16:14-15 Paul meets Lydia - Paul's first convert in Europe.
16:16-24 Paul has to confront a damsel possessed with a spirit of divination.  He and Silas end up in jail - "Secured" of course!
16:25-34 The Jail scene seeing the Jailer saved as well as his family.
16:35-40 Paul and Silas refuse to take their pardon unless the officials come down themselves!
17:1-4 Paul reasoned with the Jews in their synagogues - that THIS Jesus is Christ - with many believing.
17:5-9 But many Jews moved with envy, stirred up a 'riot' with certain lewd fellows of the baser sort and set all the city on an uproar - and assaulted the house of Jason.
17:10-12 Paul and Silas were sent away in safety by the brethren by night unto Berea - unto another synagogue - but these were scripture searching folks - and because of that, many believed.
17:13-15 More Jews stirred up the people, though at Berea - and again Paul is sent away to Athens for his safety.
17:16 Paul's spirit is stirred by what he saw - a city given wholly to idolatry.
17:17 Paul disputes with the Jews in the synagogue and with the devout persons and in the market daily.
17:18-21 He is paid a visit by the Epicureans and of the Stoicks.  He is accused of being a 'babbler' - to be a setter forth of strange gods.
17:22-31 Because of the questions he is asked, paul gives another sermon on Mars' hill.
17:32-34 Some mocked, and some wanted to hear more - and some clave unto Paul
18:1-3 On to Corinth and meets up with Aquila and Priscilla - (a government forced departure for them from Rome).
18:4-5 Paul preaches / reasons in the synagogue every sabbath.  When Silas and Timotheus arrives from Macedonia, paul is pressed in the spirit to preach to the Jews that Jesus was Christ!
18:6 Typical response from the Jews  they opposed themselves and blasphemed - Paul says he tried to tell them, but now is moving on to the Gentiles.
18:7-8 Visited Justus - and Crispus - and had many results of believing and baptizing.
18:9-11 God tells Paul to preach and to not hold his peace because God has many of the brethren there in that city.  He does so for a year and 6 months.
18:12-16 Paul is taken to court, but the judge throws out the case!
18:17 The leader of the legal hassle is beat up by the Greeks.  (See I Corinthians 1:1 to see that Sosthenes joins up with Paul eventually!)
18:18 Paul heads out to Syria with Priscilla and Aquilla with his shorn head, for he had a vow.  (See I Corinthians 9:2)
18:19-21 The Jews actually hear him out and want him to stay longer.
18:22,23 He continues his travels strengthening all the disciples.
