The Book of the Prophet
Jeremiah
Chapter 4
See what God did with a nation that
rejects His words.
|
Reminder: This Jeremiah
study has only quick comments and some ideas for some possible
bunny trails of your own to study
through and preach to someone somewhere!
Verse 1
If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD,
return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my
sight, then shalt thou not remove.
Well, there it is again - a simple solution to
America's problems as well as a persons own personal difficulties, faults
and sins - put away thine abominations out of my sight (do
a word study on God's abominations) - put away those perverted bible
versions that steal God's words - lest ye be saved!
Doctrinally, it is obvious what Israel should
have done - but in my presentation of a preaching style study, we are looking
at a modern nation that has gone to bed with the whore - the Roman Catholic
Church, which is the source of all modern bible versions with the exception
of the KJV 1611 - keeping in mind, of course, that this same Book says
that the seat of Satan is the Vatican. Makes sense, amen!
Verse 2
And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth,
in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves
in him, and in him shall they glory.
The LORD doesn't live in lies, or in perverted
selfish judgment and or in man's righteousness! Any nation would
be blessed if it kept the truth - God's words; God's judgment based on
the KJV, etc. and HIS righteousness, not man's.Romans
10:1-3
Verses 3-6
For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah
and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. Circumcise
yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men
of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire,
and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. Declare
ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in
the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us
go into the defenced cities. Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay
not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
Such direction! Who says God doesn't
tell us what we need to do?
a. Break up your fallow ground
b. Sow not among thorns
c. Circumcise yourselves to the LORD (spiritual
circumcision in the NT)
d. Declare God's words
e. Publish God's words
f. Blow ye the trumpet - Preach the word
g. Assemble for preaching teaching, etc.
h. Get out and preach, teach and get folks saved
and back into the words of God.
i. Set up the standard - the Book!
(remember Jeremiah
1:10)
j. We don't retire, we just die preaching!
Verse 7
The lion is come up from his thicket, and the
destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place
to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without
an inhabitant.
The Lord, of course, will be bringing in the tribulation,
etc. In fact, the Lord is behing the ecumenical movement as that
is how he is gathering the counterfeit christians for the lake of fire.
See Matthew 13:30.
But the bottom line is that all the destruction to truth has come from
our adversary the devil...
Do a study on 'cities' in the Bible - see what
God really thinks of the big cities now. Dens of dragons, desolate,
etc.
Verses 8,9
For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and
howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us. And
it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the
king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall
be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.
God is slow to anger, but that doesn't mean he
won't get angry eventually - and I do believe he is going to be getting
angry very soon. The Tribulation is getting closer and closer where
He withdraws himself, the Holy Spirit, the Book and all the Christians.
He will finally leave the people to themselves, and I mean really to themselves.
People just don't know how much God still protects and guides - until He
is gone, then it will be too late! See Proverbs
1:24-33
Proverbs 1:31 - Therefore
shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their
own devices.
Psalm 81:12 - So
I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own
counsels.
Verse 10
Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou
hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have
peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.
There is already so much talk of peace today
in the world, but yet, there is fighting everywhere. The subject
of the anti-christ - peace, and yet by peace, he shall destroy many - Daniel
8:25; 11:21; I Thessalonians 2:6-11 - and
it is God that sends that strong
delusion, that they should believe a lie.
Verses 11-13
Jeremiah was quite a preacher, eh!
At that time shall it be said to this people
and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward
the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse, Even a full wind
from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against
them. Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as
a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us!
for we are spoiled.
Verses 14-18
Jeremiah sure knew what needed to be said as well
as what needed to be done!
O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness,
that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge
within thee? For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction
from mount Ephraim. Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against
Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice
against the cities of Judah. As keepers of a field, are they against her
round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.
Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy
wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.
Verse 19
Can't get any deeper concern and conviction than
this!
My bowels, my bowels! I am pained
at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace,
because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm
of war.
People just don't want to listen to the trumpet
- they would rather have 'their own arrangment played by Phil Driscoe,
etc.
Isaiah18:3 All
ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he
lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear
ye.
Isaiah 58:1
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people
their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
Ezekiel 7:14
They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to
the battle: for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.
Ezekiel 33:3-6
If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and
warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh
not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon
his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning;
his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver
his soul. But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet,
and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from
among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require
at the watchman's hand.
Verses 20-22
Destruction upon destruction is cried; for
the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains
in a moment. How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the
trumpet?
For my people is foolish, they have not
known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding:
they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.
There ya have it - now you are reading a great
description of America and unfortunately, many self-proclaimed Christians
are just as guilty - they err not knowing the Scriptures.
Verses 23-26
What a thing to know - the spirit of prophecy can
truly show you what was in the past as well is yet to come, but soon to
come... Interesting thought here, but what if...
I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without
form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains,
and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and,
lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.
I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities
thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce
anger.
Verse 27
God is always true to His word!
For thus hath the LORD said, The whole
land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end. For this shall
the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken
it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from
it. The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen;
they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall
be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.
Verses 30
You can pretend all you want, but it WILL happen!
And when thou art spoiled, what wilt
thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest
thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting,
in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they
will seek thy life.
Verse 31
For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail,
and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice
of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands,
saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.
The women who have babies, they are just a 'trial
run' for the Tribulation. I don't understand why any body would 'want'
to see all that take place in a labor room and delivery room. And
to take pictures and videos, yet. Will people be 'thrilled' during
the tribulation? Will they be taking pictures during the tribulation?
Hardly - but when the 'new' baby arrives, THEN and only THEN should the
joy begin - the millennium will more than any camera can handle, but boy,
folks - wait until the baby is born before ya get those shutters working!
Isaiah 13:8 And
they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall
be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another;
their faces shall be as flames.
Isaiah 21:3 Therefore
are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs
of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was
dismayed at the seeing of it.
