Who DO you follow?
Yourself?
The god of this world?
Jesus from the gospels & apostles?
The Risen Saviour through Paul?
Demas?
Which Bible?
Yourself?
-
Not a great choice
-
Ephesians 2:12 -
That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth
of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope,
and without God in the world:
-
Ephesians 4:18 -
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God
through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their
heart:
The god of this world?
-
II Corinthians 4:4 - In
whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe
not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image
of God, should shine unto them.
-
II Corinthians 11:13-15 -
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves
into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed
into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers
also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall
be according to their works.
A Jew?
-
Romans 11:25 - For
I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest
ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened
to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
-
Romans 2:17-20 -
Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast
of God, And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent,
being instructed out of the law; And art confident that thou thyself art
a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, An instructor
of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and
of the truth in the law.
-
II Corinthians 3:12-14 -
Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech: And
not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel
could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: But their
minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken
away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
-
Jewish Fables?
-
Titus 1:14 - Not
giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the
truth.
Great Commission?
-
Matthew 28:19,20
-
Mark 16:15-20
-
Titus 1:14 - Not
giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the
truth.
Another Jesus?
-
II Corinthians 11:4 -
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached,
or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another
gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
A Modern Bible or the KJB?
-
Luke 8:11-14 -
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way
side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word
out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. They on the
rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these
have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall
away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have
heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of
this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
-
I Timothy 6:5 -
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth,
supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
II Timothy 3:8 -
Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the
truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
II Corinthians 2:17 - For
we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity,
but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
-
vs
-
I Corinthians 13:10 - But
when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be
done away.
Paul?
-
I Corinthians 4:16 -
Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
-
I Corinthians 11:1 - Be
ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
-
Philippians 3:17 -
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as
ye have us for an ensample.
-
I Thessalonians 1:6 -
And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word
in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
-
II Thessalonians 3:7 -
For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves
disorderly among you;
-
II Thessalonians 3:9 -
Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you
to follow us.
-
I Timothy 6:11 - But
thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
-
II Timothy 2:22 -
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace,
with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Demas?
-
Demas was with Paul, then forsook Paul and then went back to be with Paul?
-
Nice sermon illustration, but not true.
-
Philemon was written before II
Timothy
-
Colossians was one of the prison epistles along with
Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians.
-
Demas's time during Paul
-
Colossians 4:14 -
Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
-
Philemon 1:24 -
Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
-
Demas's time after Paul
-
II Timothy 4:10 - For
Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed
unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
The Way of Demas - Lawful - all things?
-
Do you know what you can do now that you 'know' what Paul says about you
and what the Risen Saviour has done?
-
I Corinthians 6:12 -
All things are lawful unto me ...: all things are lawful for me...,
-
but you must stop before you read the rest of that verse... or you can't
be a Demas follower!
-
you can not be aware of the 'strings' attached to many of Paul's teachings...
Be Thankful, Demas followers:
Here are more verses for your cause:
-
Romans 4:15 -
Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
-
Romans 5:13 -
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there
is no law.
-
Romans 10:4 -
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to very one that believeth.
-
Romans 6:14 -
For sin shall not have dominion over you; for ye are not under the law,
but under grace.
-
But you must stop there - do NOT read verses 15-22
if you are wanting to be a Demas Follower!
So, if you have gone or are planning on it - or actually think you can't
/ won't - then you should be VERY thankful for what the Risen Saviour has
taught us - whatever it is that you have learned, anyway.
As you participate with the works of darkness - and
love the pleasures of this present world instead of being a lover of God...
you can actually do these worldly pleasurable things without fear of:
-
God's chastisement today!
-
Losing your salvation!
-
Losing any more friends!
-
other than the ones you lose as you fall backwards to Demas...
-
May even get your friends back...
-
but even some of those know you are a fake...
-
Not having enough money for your wants!
-
Vengeance or pay backs from God!
-
Sickness coming into your life as punishment, etc.
-
Opposition from God - and lately, fewer and fewer pastors - as well as
your 'friends.'
-
Fewer friends and family seeking your halting...
Need some help in changing your life back? Go ahead...
-
Be a brawler! It might make you feel good!
-
Speak evil of people!
-
Speak evil period!
-
Don't worry about what comes out of your mouth - the damage it can do...
-
Be tough again - forget that meekness thing!
-
Jump into those arguments of foolish questions - you know how to beat them
down... or
-
they may even be right, ya know???
-
Hang around a few hereticks -
-
they can't possibly drag you or your family members down...
-
Who cares that they are subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
-
Some very nice and polite people - very educated and successful...
-
You older ladies
-
Quit feeling guilty now about not teaching anything good to those young
ladies - you know, how to love your husband - how to be sober - how to
love their children - you can be close with them again and not come across
so 'judgmental' or 'argumentative...
-
You older ladies - there is more...
-
you don't have to be examples behaviour as becometh holiness, go ahead
take a few drinks - don't worry about teaching good things - times have
changed, anyway... of being discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient
to their husbands - - don't worry that the Bible says that doing those
things will blaspheme the word of God... you don't have to worry about
blasphemy during this age of grace, anyway, right?
-
And you young women -
-
you can go ahead with ignoring all those things that you are to follow
as well - same as above:
-
And us older men -
-
we can quit this boring sober lifestyle of being serious about life and
things... go ahead - look like returned beach boys - pop those earrings
in - put those shorts on - head to the beach and wear that new fangled
swim wear...
-
forget about being temperate - sound in faith, let your wife handle all
that church stuff, anyway...
-
You young men -
-
party hearty; forget about any pattern of good works shewing uncorruptness,
gravity and sincerity.
-
Your childhood and youth are vanity anyway - remove that sorrow from your
heart - nothing is accountable to you until you are past 19 years
old, anyway.
-
You servants towards your workplace - go on strike, go ahead, you think
that God will bless your greediness, etc. even if your bosses make more
money and are unjust and unfair.
-
The name of God and his doctrine is not blasphemed anyway these days -
come on, these are the days of grace.
-
Tired of suffering reproach?
-
Then back off from any sort of 'living God' concept - where is He at in
my life anyway?
-
What seducing spirits and doctrines of devils are there, anyway?
-
Who says? that is all just your opinion, anyway.
-
Go ahead ladies - put that air behind that mouth again - you have plenty
to say, anyway.
-
Your husband doesn't have a clue!
-
Go ahead ladies - dress like the world again, anyway.
-
It is all just an American culture thing anyway.
-
God doesn't care - and you like to be undressed in the eyes of other people
- it is flattering to you now that you have lost your weight, anyway.
-
Forget that shamefacedness
-
that is just too much and it is all just too hot anyway - we are on vacation!
-
I don't even want a life that is quiet and peaceable in all godliness and
honesty...
-
If any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have company
with him - he is a pretty good guy!
-
Go ahead - get that job ladies - you need the money for those in life you
just have to have - a swimming pool, bigger house, nicer car - all the
toys, etc.
-
Besides, you ladies have more wisdom and freedom us men have today!
-
Bodily exercise profiteth much - didn't you know that?
-
I'll sacrifice my family for losing a few pounds...
-
the kids can do their own work, anyway. They don't need me...
-
Go ahead - call your neighbor
-
tell them about a few folks - be the tattler of what someone has told you
- wander from house to house -
-
you have the time and freedom, anyway...
You don't have to stay home ladies
you can pass your children off to someone else
and don't get married either, if you want a career - or just your own
money!
-
Get those jewels and fancy body ornaments, fix that hair - pay money to
have it look messed up - color some of those strands, paint & cover
the barn... see if you make into something it isn't!
-
Go ahead - set your affection on things on the earth!
Read Paul's writings from the Risen Saviour
and then do the opposite -
and the opposition will go away!
Who Bewitched You?
-
Galatians 3:1 - O
foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the
truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified
among you?
Colossians 1:10-22
- How can you ignore the Risen Saviour to follow Demas - or any of those
others?
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto
all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the
knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious
power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks
unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance
of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness,
and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have
redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the
image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him
were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible
and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities,
or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before
all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body,
the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in
all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that
in him should all fulness dwell; And, having made peace through the blood
of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say,
whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were
sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath
he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy
and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
