For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

Colossians 2:1: For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

Note from above verses:

  • Paul is not Christ, of course - and we don't worship Paul, of course!  But...  Paul still cared enough for the Gentiles that he was willing to suffer for them too.  And note - the 'for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh' includes us today, too!
  • One of Paul's biggest fears was for us to not get the message he was preaching and teaching.  He was afraid that all he did was being done in vain; not because of his waste of time but because he was afraid we wouldn't get it.
  • Paul's efforts for us and not being in vain!
  • Galatians 2:2 - And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
  • Galatians 4:11 - I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
  • Philippians 2:16 - Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.
  • I Thessalonians 2:1 - For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:
  • I Thessalonians 3:5 - For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.

  • Back to the sermon on flesh:

    Colossians 2:5: For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.

    Colossians 2:11: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

    Colossians 2:13: And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

    Colossians 3:22,23: Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

    I Timothy 3:16: And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

    Philemon 1:16: Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
