from the Risen Christ to Paul and On To Us Today

And
we have confidence in the Lord touching you,
that
ye both DO and will do the things which we command you.
II Thessalonians
3:4
For
they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you,
and
how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
I Thessalonians

Those
things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in
me,
DO
and the God of peace shall be with you.
Philippians

19. Bear
Define "bear"- as a verb...
Of the many definitions of 'bear' they all lean toward the same thing
- To support; to sustain, as, to bear a weight or burden; To carry on;
to convey; To sustain; to be the object of; to endure the effects.
By Following the Risen Christ Through
Paul...
A. We are to Bear the Name of the Risen Christ!
Acts 9:15 -
But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto
me,
to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children
of Israel:
-
children of Israel - Acts

governor, chief captains, etc. Acts 25-26
- King Agrippa
-
Acts 23:11 - And
the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer,
Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear
witness also at Rome.
-
Paul was not ashamed of the testimony of the Lord
-
Paul taught the whole testimony of the Risen Saviour!
-
II Timothy 1:8 - Be
not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of
me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel
according to the power of God;
-
Thus he would be very one they were to have believed
in - the son of God!
-
John 11:27 - She
saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son
of God, which should come into the world.
-
John 19:7 - The
Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because
he made himself the Son of God.
-
John 20:31 - But
these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
-
Even Paul told them who He was!
-
Acts 9:20 - And
straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of
God.
-
Creation - Creator
-
Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16
-
Old Testament - "...that
Rock was Christ"
-
I Corinthians 10:1-4
-

burial, resurrection - I Corinthians 15:1-5
-

B. We are to bear
a Good Conscience!
Romans 9:1 -
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me
witness in the Holy Ghost,
-
Was was doing what the Risen Saviour had told him...
-
Acts 26:16 -
But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for
I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and
a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things
in the which I will appear unto thee;
-
Don't be a pretender - YOU will know if you are or
are not!
-
II Corinthians 13:7 -
Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved,
but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
-
To the 'council'
-
Acts 23:1 - And
Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived
in all good conscience before God until this day.
-
Void of offence
-
Acts 24:16 - And
herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence
toward God, and toward men.
-
It is not our 'job' to offend people!
-
They will be offended by the truth, but we don't
have to go out of our way to offend them!
-
II Corinthians 11:6-9 - But
though I be rude in speech, yet not in knowledge; but we have been throughly
made manifest among you in all things. Have I committed an offence in abasing
myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel
of God freely? I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to
do you service. And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable
to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from
Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome
unto you, and so will I keep myself.
-
II Corinthians 7:2,3 - Receive
us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded
no man. I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye
are in our hearts to die and live with you.
-
II Corinthians 4:5 - For
we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your
servants for Jesus' sake.
-
II Corinthians 2:17 -
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity,
but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
-
These folks today have a seared conscience - to think
that there would be 400+ 'other' bibles that are still ok to use?
-
correct God?
-
Is God not able to preserve HIS OWN WORDS?
-
and to wrongly divide?
-
to reject Paul?
-
don't even check it out! They just 'hear' gossip
- and their own conclusions!
-
In spite of all that Paul teaches - and to 'follow'
him...
-
II Corinthians 1:24 - Not
for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy:
for by faith ye stand.
-
Titus 3:1-3 - Put
them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates,
to be ready to every good work, To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers,
but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves also were
sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures,
living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
-
Read the whole chapter for this one!
-
Testimony of our conscience!
-
II Corinthians 1:12 -
For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity
and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God,
we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
-
Not concern yourself with your conscience = shipwrecked
faith!
-
I Timothy 1:19 - Holding
faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith
have made shipwreck:
-
Seared conscience
-
I Timothy 4:2 -
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
-
Pure conscience? He prayed! Remember
Romans
7!
-
II Timothy 1:3 -
I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that
without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
-
Lost people - defiled conscience!
-
Titus 1:15 - Unto
the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving
is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
-
Ephesians 4:17-21
- the vanity of their mind!
C. We are to bear a Zeal of God!
Romans 10:2 -
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according
to knowledge.
-
"zealous" - warmly engaged or ardent in the
pursuit of an object. With passionate ardor; with eagerness.
-
"ardent" - applied to the passions and affections;
passionate; affectionate; much engaged;
-
Galatians 4:17,18 - They
zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye
might affect them. But it is good to be zealously affected always
in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
-
Titus 2:14 - Who
gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify
unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
D. We are to be able to bear Meat!
I Corinthians 3:2 -
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able
to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
-
I Corinthians 13:11 - When
I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as
a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
-
Ephesians 4:14 - That
we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness,
whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
-
I Corinthians 16:13 - Watch
ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
-
quit - to carry through; to do or perform something
to the end, so that nothing remains; to discharge or perform completely.
-
This is meat!
-
I Corinthians 14:37 -
If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge
that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
-
Acts 26:18 - To
open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the
power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and
inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
-
Acts 26:20 - 20:
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout
all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent
and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
-
I Thessalonians 1:9,10 -
For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you,
and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And
to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus,
which delivered us from the wrath to come.
-
Titus 2
-
I Timothy 5:14
- I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the
house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
-
and more of Paul's DOINGS!
-
his 'doctrine' in Romans, Ephesians, Galatians, etc.
isn't meat - it is simple truth!
E. We are to bear with Paul and Stay With Him!
II Corinthians 11:1 -
Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear
with me.
-
Why?
-
2,3 - For
I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one
husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
-
Might bear with the wrong one!
-
II Corinthians 11:4 -
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached,
or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another
gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
-
Galatians 1:8 - But
though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than
that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
The audio sermon ends here
- the remainder is for your personal study!
F. We are to bear the Infirmities of
the Weak!
Romans 15:1 -
We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and
not to please ourselves.
-
Acts 20:35 - I
have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the
weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more
blessed to give than to receive.
-
Romans 14:1 -
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock
to them that are weak.

the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things
to all men, that I might by all means save some.
I Thessalonians 5:14 -
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded,
support the weak, be patient toward all men.
G.. We should be able to bear Temptation!
I Corinthians 10:13 -
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be
able to bear it.
-
Galatians 4:14 -
And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected;
but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
-
I Timothy 6:9 -
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many
foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
H. We are to bear the Dying of the Lord
Jesus - THEN the life...!
II Corinthians 4:10 -
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the
life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
-
The life is only learned from Paul!
-
Romans 6:4 - Therefore
we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised
up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk
in newness of life.
-
Galatians 2:20 -
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the
faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
-

the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the
law of sin and death.

ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
-

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light
through the gospel:
I. We are to bear our own Personal Christian Record!
Galatians 4:15 - Where
is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it
had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given
them to me.
-
II Corinthians 8:3 -
For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were
willing of themselves;
-
Galatians 4:15 - Where
is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it
had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given
them to me.
-
Colossians 4:13 - For
I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are
in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
J. We are to bear Burdens
-
One another's burdens!
-
Galatians 6:2 - Bear
ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
-
Our Own Burden!
-
Galatians 6:5 - For
every man shall bear his own burden.
-
In other words, be concerned for others - but yet
don't whine about yours hoping somebody else will take your burden.
-
the law of Christ?
-
Galatians 5:14 -
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself.

Galatians 6:17 -
From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks
of the Lord Jesus.
-

Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
L. In the Future - we shall bear...!

And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image
of the heavenly.
-
Philippians 3:20,21
- For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour,
the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned
like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able
even to subdue all things unto himself.
