Paul is 'un' To Most Folks - Including Christians!
Last week, we see that to most folks,
Paul's teachings are impractical to them!
Now we see how folks see Paul's teachings
as:
Unreachable
They don't even think they are possible!
II Timothy
3:7 -Ever learning, and never able
to come to the knowledge of the truth.
No, Paul's things are not unreachable
- there is nothing that Paul teaches that we can't do!
They just don't want ...
Unwantable
They don't WANT Paul's teachings!
II Timothy
4:3,4 - For the time will come when
they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they
heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away
their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
They don't want
them, because these folks are...
Unteachable
I Corinthians
4:17 - For this cause have I sent unto
you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall
bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every
where in every church.
Ephesians 4:11
- And he gave some, apostles; and
some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Colossians
1:27,28 - To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which
is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man,
and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect
in Christ Jesus:
Colossians
3:16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in
you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the
Lord.
II Timothy
4:3 - For the time will come when they
will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap
to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
I Timothy 1:3
- As I besought thee to abide still at
Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that
they teach no other doctrine,
I Timothy 2:7
- Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and
an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the
Gentiles in faith and verity.
I Timothy 3:2
- A bishop then must be blameless, the
husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality,
apt to teach;
II Timothy
1:11 - Whereunto I am appointed a preacher,
and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
II Timothy
2:24,25 - And the servant of the Lord must
not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness
instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give
them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
I Timothy 4:11
- These things command and teach.
I Timothy 6:3
- If any man teach otherwise, and consent
not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to
the doctrine which is according to godliness;
Women
Titus 2:3-4
- The aged women likewise, that they be
in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much
wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be
sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet,
chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the
word of God be not blasphemed.
Men
II Timothy
2:2 - And the things that thou hast heard
of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall
be able to teach others also.
Titus 1:10,11
- For there are many unruly and vain talkers
and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Whose mouths must be
stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not,
for filthy lucre's sake.
Not only are they
unteachable, they have no desire to be taught!
Undesirable
II Corinthians
7:6,7 - Nevertheless God, that comforteth
those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; And not
by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in
you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind
toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.
II Corinthians
7:11 -For behold this selfsame
thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought
in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what
fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In
all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
II Corinthians
8:6 - Insomuch that we desired Titus, that
as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.
II Timothy
4:4 - And they shall turn away their ears
from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
or
desire to be in bondage
Galatians 4:9
- But now, after that ye have known
God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly
elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
desire the lusts of the flesh and
of the mind
Ephesians 2:3
- Among whom also we all had our conversation
in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the
flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as
others.
It
is because Paul's teachings are uncomfortable! II Timothy
3:4 - ...lovers of pleasures more
than lovers of God;
