Ye
are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith
shall it be salted? it is
thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under
foot of men. Matthew
5:13
Salt of the
earth?
Ye?
Who were 'ye?'
Remember who this was all being directed to and to whom it was not!
We say 'were' because the Gospels are past...
Old Testament Jewish doctrine and teachings of Jesus, while on the earth
to be the Messiah to the Jews...
Jesus was going
to the world through the Jews!
The Jews were
going to be the salt of the earth!
Acts 3:25 -
Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made
with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds
of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 22:18
- And in thy seed shall all the nations
of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Genesis 26:4
- And I will make thy seed to multiply
as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries;
and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;
Genesis 28:14
- And thy seed shall be as the dust of
the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and
to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the
families of the earth be blessed.
Isaiah 61:9
- And their seed shall be known among the
Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall
acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.
Now the Risen
Christ with Paul to the Gentiles because of faith - not the law...
Romans 4:13
- For the promise, that he should be the
heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law,
but through the righteousness of faith.
Romans 4:16
- Therefore it is of faith, that it might
be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not
to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith
of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Romans 4:19-25

And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when
he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong
in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he
had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed
to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that
it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if
we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was
delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
Salt as a type
- examples!
Salt penetrates:
it
seven penetrates metal; signifying the power of the Words of God!
Salt cleanses:
as
doesthe Word of God!
Salt purifies:
as
does the Word of God!
Salt burns: if
left in one place, as would a 'church' if folks are not active, etc.
Salt irritates:
as
when placed on a wound, as the Word of God would do to unsaved people /
saved who are not interested, etc.
P.S. Types can
be extremely interesting - but can mess up rightly dividing if one is not
careful in the application.
Salt can symbolize
things today, I suppose - it makes preaching material as they falsely 'try'
to apply them to folks today for OT teachings!
Types are never
to be used as a doctrinal proof!
Example:
...if the
salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth
good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men
Now, if this was
preached today, it certainly would not be applicable towards one's salvation
or fellowship with God, etc.
Man may not like
it - and they can be very easily trodden under their foot the gospel, but
is what they have been preached and seen over the years been the truth?
Rightly divided?
Or has it been
a folly that is just now beginning to make itself manifest?
II Timothy
3:9 - But
they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all
men, as theirs also was.
But that is how
it is most often preached from the Great Commission Gospel following preachers.
Here are a
couple more 'salt' verses from the Gospels!
Mark 9:49 -
For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted
with salt.
shall be...
Future - fires of judgment for all?
suffering and
persecutions and now with the tribulation just over the horizon?
Salt was required
in all the offerings of God - Leviticus
2:13 - And every oblation of thy meat offering
shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the
covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine
offerings thou shalt offer salt.
All the Old Testament
sacrifices had to have salt on them?
Is that why we
salt our meat today?
Salt was used
to signify covenants - Numbers 18:19 -
All
the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer
unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee,
by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD
unto thee and to thy seed with thee.
Mark 9:50 -
Salt
is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season
it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
They certainly
should have had plenty of salt available for their Old Testament uses -
from the Dead Sea, also called the Salt Sea - Genesis
14:3 & Numbers 34:3
However, if they
didn't have salt, or if became old, what would they use!
In the gospel
time, they were to be concerned about themselves and be peacekeepers when
it comes to others.
In other words,
they were to just put the salt on your own plate, nobody else's!
That is the gist
of the Sermon on the Mount!
So,
what does Paul say about salt?
Colossians
4:6 - Let
your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how
ye ought to answer every man!
Like what Mark
9:50 says?
Keep the salt
to yourself? Be at peace one with another?
Nope!
Talk to them all
- EVERY man - our speech being seasoned with salt!

Grace and truth!
Colossians
1:1-6 - vs 6 - Which
is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit,
as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace
of God in truth:
Ephesians 4:29
- Let no corrupt communication proceed
out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that
it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Keep some salt
in your words - stir the 'flavour' of the conversation!
Keep that King
James Bible within the conversation if at all possible!
Interjecting what
the 'Risen Christ' would say about it would surely liven the conversation
- or shut it down completely, eh!
Salt could be
'truth, scriptural application within the conversation, don't agree to
disagree, take your stand, stand firm but not argumentative, let them get
angry but not you, reproof, rebuke in a graceful but salty way, etc.
...how ye
ought to answer EVERY man!
See how Paul answered
- grace and truth with a little salt!!
Acts 24:10
- Then Paul, after that the governor had
beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast
been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer
for myself:

day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews:

also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden
from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.

Can you stay in
the conversation yourself if the KJB and Paul were to be brought up?
II Timothy
4:14-18 - verse 16 - At my first answer
no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not
be laid to their charge.
Possibly not
- II Timothy 4:3,4 - For the
time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their
own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears:
and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned
unto fables.
Reminder: Not
not at work to your boss!Titus
2:9 - Exhort servants to be obedient unto
their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering
again;
Paul teaches the
way of God MORE PERFECTLY to us today, eh!
Remember the Four
Gospels way isn't always Paul's way today? ...have
salt in yourselves and have peace one with another!
Romans 12:18
- If it be possible, as much as lieth in
you, live peaceably with all men.
If it doesn't
match with Paul, mark it and don't try to apply it!
Galatians 1:8,9
- But though we, or an angel from heaven,
preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto
you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any
man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him
be accursed.
Note: But
keep this in mind... you don't have to know both the Gospels AND Paul's
writings and then pick what you think Paul reiterates from the gospels
and throw the rest out! Just follow Paul as TO and the rest as FOR
you!
Jesus spoke to
the Jews; Paul spoke to the Gentiles! Which one are you?
Are you following
the "12" as they followed the earthly Jesus or are you seeking to follow
the "1" as he learned to follow the Risen Jesus Christ.
