Another Sermon for the Starving Bible Believing Christians All Over the World Wide Web
2006 - Touchet Baptist Church, Touchet, Washington - Pastor Mike Paulson - 2006
Expounding the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:26 - with the Scriptures Rightly Divided - II Timothy 2:15
Paul and Toward "Others"
Part II
Part III - is concluded in Sunday School audio

In order to truly follow Paul as stated in Philippians 4:9, we truly need to see how he handled 'others,' including the 'enemy.'
We must even rightly divide Paul - is he talking TO Jews, Gentiles or saved folks?  See I Corinthians 10:32.
When he mentions neighbour, he is talking about the brethren.  See context example in I Thessalonians 4:12 and take note of verses 6,8,9,10.

This is a simplified outline listing the verses that were preached.

True Christian Behaviour Towards Others

A Difference
Jesus said to love the enemy.
Matthew 5:43-45 - Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

however...

Jesus told Paul to tell us that we are to send our love toward the enemy, never to love the enemy as is or directly.
I Thessalonians 3:12,13 - And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:  To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
Ephesians 5:1,2 -  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

The Enemy!

Evil men are waxing worse and worse
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
II Timothy 3:13

We tend to 'claim' I Timothy 2:1,2 and pray for a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.  But we must realize that God does tell us to get into the Book and see what it is we can and should do in order for that quiet and peaceable life to take place.  We can and must pray for all men, for kings and for all that are in authority, but then we must do something ourselves!

We are Christians - we still are to be separated!
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
Ephesians 5:8-10

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

II Corinthians 6:14-18

We must be careful that our liberty in Christ doesn't get us in a mess!

We are not to get entangled with ...
II Timothy 2:4 - No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Have no fellowship with ...
Ephesians 5:11,12 - And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.  For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Be not partakers with ...
Ephesians 5:6,7 ( read to 17)
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

As you read, you will see more and more counsel from Paul about 'others' that are not discussed in these sermons.  God can show you what YOU need to read concerning 'others' as much if not more than this sermon.  Read on!

AVOID
Romans 16:17,18 -  Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
II Timothy 2:23 - But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
Titus 3:9 - But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
I Timothy 6:20,21 - O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

SHUN
II Timothy 2:16,17 - But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

TURN AWAY
II Timothy 3:2-5 - For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

MARK
bad - Romans 16:17,18 - Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
good - Philippians 3:17 - Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

HAVE NO COMPANY
II Thessalonians 3:14,15 - And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

WITHDRAW
brothers
II Thessalonians 3:6,7 - Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.  For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
II Thessalonians 3:11-15 - For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.  Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.  But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.  And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
bible correctors - I Timothy 6:5 - Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

FLEE
I Timothy 6:11 - But thou, O man of God, flee these things; read the first part of the chapter to see what those things are!

FIGHT
I Timothy 6:12 - Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
II Timothy 4:7 - I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

PREACH, REPROVE, REBUKE, EXHORT
I Timothy 5:20 - Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
II Timothy 4:2-4 - Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Titus 1:13 - This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
Titus 2:15 - These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.  Read the chapter to see what those 'things' are that we should speak, exhort and rebuke with all authority.  And also remember, the final authority is the Bible, not you!  Show them what the Scriptures say!!!!

This is as far as we got in the preaching audio from Wednesday night, May 24, 2006. The remainder is done on May 28th - Sunday School adult class.

NOT GIVE HEED
Titus 1:14-16 - Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.  Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.  They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
I Timothy 1:4 - Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

REFUSE
I Timothy 4:7 - But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

WARN
I Thessalonians 5:14 - Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly,
Acts 20:30,31 - Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.  Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
Colossians 1:28 - Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
about wrath of God - Colossians 3:6 - For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:  Ephesians 5:6 - Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
about tribulation - II Thessalonians 2:1-12
doing wrong - Colossians 3:25 -  But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
everlasting destruction - II Thessalonians 1:9 -  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Paul describes them well!
I Timothy 6:4-5 -  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
Philippians 3:19 - Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
II Timothy 3:2-5;7,8
For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous
boasters
proud
blasphemers
disobedient to parents
unthankful
unholy
Without natural affection
trucebreakers
false accusers
incontinent
fierce
despisers of those that are good
Traitors
heady
highminded
lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof
Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth
so resist the truth
men of corrupt minds
reprobate concerning the faith.

Paul even clobbered a few:
Acts 13:9-11 - Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?  And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
Acts 16:18 - And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
I Corinthians 5:5 - To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

The Book clobbers and does that work today - I Corinthians 13:8-10 - Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

The Big Question - why don't we do those above things - even if just some of them today?

We cause folks to stumble!  (our kids)!
We become beguiled (and thus pass it on to our kids)!
We fall into snares of the devil!
We are a bad testimony to the 'truth' - to the Book - to the REAL Jesus Christ!

It doesn't edify, thus it is wrong and will burn!

I guess we don't seem to care about the eternal quality of our future, eh!
We apparently just satisfied that we have a future...

Flesh just keeps on winning!

The next and most obvious question, "What Should We Turn UNTO?"
Sounds like another sermon is coming, eh!
