Series: The Essence of Christianity - Others
Introduction - Part I
How Did Paul Do It?
|
Beginning a series on how to treat others as a Christian - especially
'the enemy.' Jesus says to love the enemy. Do we have to do
that today? Stay tuned and find out the details of God's way more
perfectly concerning others.
This is the basic outline used in the introduction and part I of the
audio sermons. In other words, both sermons are derived from this
set of notes.
Baloney quote of the day: Oprah Winfrey - about her friend
who recently died... "He lived his life with the light of love, and
each of us has the power to do that in our own way. At the roll call
of your life, at the end of your life, what really matters is who did you
love and who did you offer love to?"
Our testimony consists of:
Who is Christ, what did He do, etc.?
What did Christ do for others?
What a Christian is to 'be' - not only 'do.'
Our life shows changes to more God's ways!
Joy, Peace, etc. according to Paul
Not abusing our liberty to cause others to stumble!
The truth TODAY, not yesterday's or tomorrow's truth.
Jesus taught his people to love their enemy.
In fact, their salvation depended on it. Yet, Christ will be
using the 'enemy' to be His footstool some day.
God LOVED the world, that He GAVE - it was all done in the past.
If they accept His only begotten Son, then they have His love. If
they don't, they don't have His love. God does NOT love everyone.
God LOVED everyone. The choice to have His love today is up to the
person - God has made His offer!
Paul's teachings on others is God's way
more perfectly.
Others:
-
Philippians 2:4 - Look
not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
-
II Timothy 2:2 - And
the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit
thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
-
Proverbs 24:17 - Rejoice
not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
-
Colossians 2:4,18 - And
this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping
of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed
up by his fleshly mind,
How Did Paul Do It?
-
Philippians 2:3 -
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind
let each esteem other better than themselves.
-
I Corinthians 15:9 - For
I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle,
because I persecuted the church of God.
-
Ephesians 3:8 - Unto
me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that
I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
-
Philippians 4:11,12 - Not
that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state
I am, therewith to be content.
12: I know both how to be abased, and I
know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both
to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
-
I Corinthians 9:27 - But
I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means,
when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
-
I Corinthians 1:27-31 - But
God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and
God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which
are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised,
hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things
that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him
are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness,
and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written,
He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
-
II Corinthians 10:1 - Now
I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who
in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
-
I Corinthians 9:19-23 - For
though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all,
that I might gain the more. And unto the Jews I became as a Jew,
that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the
law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that
are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under
the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all
things to all men, that I might by all means save some. And this
I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
-
Acts 20:24 - But
none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself,
so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have
received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
-
I Thessalonians 2:3-8 - For
our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:
But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even
so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.
For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke
of covetousness; God is witness: Nor of men sought we glory, neither
of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles
of Christ. But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth
her children: So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing
to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own
souls, because ye were dear unto us.
-
I Corinthians 13:1-3 - Though
I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I
am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have
the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge;
and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have
not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed
the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity,
it profiteth me nothing.
-
Colossians 3:12-14 - Put
on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies,
kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another,
and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even
as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things
put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
-
Galatians 1:16 - To
reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately
I conferred not with flesh and blood:
-
Proverbs 16:19 - (not
I Peter 5:5!) Better it is to
be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the
proud.
-
Philippians 3:17-19 - Brethren,
be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us
for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and
now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is
in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
-
II Corinthians 2:4 - For
out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many
tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which
I have more abundantly unto you.
-
II Timothy 1:3,4 - I
thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that
without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be
filled with joy;
Yet, Paul was also bold and confident,
as should we!
-
Acts 28:31 - Preaching
the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus
Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
-
II Corinthians 10:1,2 - Now
I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who
in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence,
wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked
according to the flesh.
-
Ephesians 3:12,13 -
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which
is your glory.
-
Philippians 1:25,26 - And
having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you
all for your furtherance and joy of faith; That your rejoicing may
be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
-
Philippians 3:4 - Though
I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that
he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
-
(not I John
3:21) - Beloved,
if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
-
Romans 15:15-18 - Nevertheless,
brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting
you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God, That
I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the
gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable,
being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. I have therefore whereof I may
glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God.
For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not
wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,
-
II Corinthians 7:4-6 - Great
is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am
filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were
troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. Nevertheless
God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming
of Titus;
-
Philippians 1:20 - According
to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed,
but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified
in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.
-
I Thessalonians 2:1,2 - 1:
For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not
in vain: But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully
entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto
you the gospel of God with much contention.
-
I Timothy 3:13 -
for deacons... For
they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves
a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
