I Corinthians 12:31

The beginning has become more important than the ending! Creation! And they totally ignore the present and dwell on the past and future!
Abraham - same father stuff - has become more important than Jesus Christ!
(Israel, Islam, Christians)
The Ten Commandments as a whole have become more important than the Nine! The "missing" one has become the only one to follow!
I Samuel 16:14-23 has become proof to modern Christians as to the supposed 'power of music' to heal mentally, spiritually and physically!
I Chronicles 4:10 - The Prayer of Jabez has become the repetitious prayer that promise prosperity and growth of ones' family and ministry. That is so not true today - I am surprised that any Christian would fall for that lie!
II Chronicles 7:14 has become the great "emergency" verse for America! (power of prayer and a holy walk - builds a kingdom now...)
Psalms has become proof that living a righteous life, with all the difficulties that come with it, gets you to be with God after you die!
Proverbs 31 becomes proof that a woman can work a career outside the home and still come home and be the super mom and super wife while the husband becomes Mr Mom!
Ecclesiastes has become the pattern to follow for Biblical Counseling - the paths to follow for all the "ISM'S" of modern psychology!
Song of Solomon - well, I won't go there! haha
Ezekiel and Daniel have become an obsession to folks who want to try to figure out the Tribulation and when the Lord will come! Mostly just a money maker with all the books that they sell - all having the right details! Filthy Lucre!
The Gospels have become the gospel
TO us today!
... people turn to the Sermon on the Mount - the
beatitudes!
... these gospels were written TO the Jews and now
are trying to be applied to the Gentiles!
To a new Christian, the Book of John becomes the door that leads them to the confusion of the Gospels. It seems ok to try to build the kingdom on earth again!
Acts 1-8 has become the pattern to follow for the local church!
Folks all tend to skip Paul's Epistles but they will still lay claim to their spirituality by claiming I II Corinthians!
Hebrews to Jude are used to put guilt on Christians - lose salvation; obey pastors or else...; fear God or else;... live a life of bondage to the gospels!
Revelation has become today's gospel for more and more as we get closer and closer to the Tribulation!
When things are rough or one is on his death bed, Psalms 23 becomes their encouragement.
But for all those ensamples, there is a more excellent
way!
- It is the Way of God more perfectly -
Here are a few thoughts:
1: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not
want.
SHEPHERD - We are not sheep! Sheep is referring
to the Jews. Sheep are dumb and need to be led around by a shepherds
crook - by a rod and staff - God gave us the Book, we have no excuse to
'not know!' We don't have to follow or else... we are
given that choice.
WANT - Yes, we are not to speak in respect of want, but
even Paul had wants. I figure they were spiritual wants for others
- not earthly things. He preached to us to set our affection on things
above, etc. But still, note in Philippians
2:25, Paul had some wants taken care of!
2: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
MAKETH - The Lord doesn't MAKE
us do anything. All by choice! In fact, He does make intercession
for us for when we don't do what we should! See II
Corinthians 2:14; Ephesians 4:16.
GREEN - we already have green pastures
- spiritually, of course. Life in the physical realm is pretty 'ungreen'
- that is why folks are always looking for the greener side of life.
The green pastures are in that KJB!
STILL WATERS - No still waters
in this world! The still waters are in the KJB. Folks looking
for 'still waters' physically get caught up in the abundant and prosperity
gospel, etc.
3: He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in
the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
RESTORETH -
Once we are saved, we never have to have our soul restored again!
He will restore our body later, but our soul is clean and stays clean.
LEADETH - He leads us by the KJB
and Paul's ways, etc.
PATHS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS - He gives
us HIS righteousness / He makes us HIS righteousness. The paths come
AFTER we are saved and learn Paul's ways.
4: Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff they comfort me.
VALLEY - Life is a joy to live
for Him!
WITH ME - God is not 'with' us
- He is IN us!
ROD / STAFF COMFORT ME - OT discipline!
We are not comforted by punishment / discipline. That is OT.
We are comforted by Scriptures, Gospel of Christ (risen), good works, Paul's
ways, preaching, the brethren, a pastor, unity of the KJB and fellow workers
of the ministry, but not through a rod and staff.
5: Thou preparest a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth
over.
TABLE - that table has now become
their snare - See Romans 11:9.
MINE ENEMIES - that very enemy
(Gentiles) has been given the gospel through Paul - to make
the Jews jealous! Romans 11
ANOINTEST -
that is OT anointing - that is gospel anointing - that is early Acts anointing.
Today, we have the Spirit of God but we must have the anointed Scriptures.
CUP RUNNETH OVER
- the Book is the cup that runneth over!
6: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for
ever.
GOODNESS AND MERCY - follow? no, we are given goodness
as the fruit of the Spirit - it is in us. Goodness and mercy don't
follow us, they are right where we are.
HOUSE of the LORD - We are the temple of the Lord today!
We are not looking forward to His house, but we are looking forward to
His CITY!
Psalm 23 as great and beautiful it is to read, is just another example of how folks are addicted to OT.
We have a more excellent way than Psalm
23!
We have a more excellent way than any of those OT doctrines!
We have the way of God more perfectly through Paul!
