• Memorial Day - In 1865, Henry C. Welles, a druggist in the village of Waterloo, NY, mentioned at a social gathering that honor should be shown to the patriotic dead of the Civil War by decorating their graves.
• In the Spring of 1866, he again mentioned this subject to General John B. Murray, Seneca County Clerk. General Murray embraced the idea and a committee was formulated to plan a day devoted to honoring the dead.
• Townspeople adopted the idea wholeheartedly. Wreaths, crosses and bouquets were made for each veteran's grave. The village was decorated with flags at half mast and draped with evergreen boughs and mourning black streamers.
• On May 5, 1866, civic societies joined the procession to the three existing cemeteries and were led by veterans marching to martial music. At each cemetery there were impressive and lengthy services including speeches by General Murray and a local clergyman. The ceremonies were repeated on May 5, 1867.
• The first official recognition of Memorial Day as such was issued by General John A. Logan, first commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. This was General Order No. 11 establishing "Decoration Day" as it was then known. The date of the order was May 5, 1868.
• The first state to officially recognize the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 it was recognized by all of the northern states. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I (when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war). It is now celebrated in almost every State on the last Monday in May (passed by Congress with the National Holiday Act of 1971 (P.L. 90 - 363) to ensure a three day weekend for Federal holidays), though several southern states have an additional separate day for honoring the Confederate war dead: January 19 in Texas, April 26 in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi; May 10 in South Carolina; and June 3 (Jefferson Davis' birthday) in Louisiana and Tennessee.

Today's sermon is in 'memorial' of something else that appears to have almost died in America - TRUTH - thy word is truth.  While truth will never completely die in it's existence, it certainly has shown signs of death in America.

Yet, we seem to have forgotten the things we were suppose to remember from history:

• The Alamo - gave Texas the beginning of their independence!
• The battleship Main - Set off the Spanish American War!
• The Lusitania - Got America involved with WWI!
• Pearl Harbor - Set off WWII with Japan!  No longer a day living in infamy!
• Sultana Disaster? - end of "War Between the States" - largest steamship disaster - 1865 - killed 1700-1900, estimated.
• U.S.S. Liberty?  1967 - Attacked by Israel, denied and cover up by USA.
• U.S.S. Pueblo?

• teens in the 'old days' - little boys driving cattle across the plains, girls walking two miles barefoot in the winter to get water, pouring ice on the roof during the winter to keep cold air from blowing into the house, 9' deep holes with a roof for their house, digging sod squares for building their house, etc.
• And we know so little of the TRUTH of history, let alone any history at all - the affairs of this life - is it no wonder we are to not get entangled in it!  II Timothy 2:4 - No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

So, naturally, the cults has to bring in a CHURCH to snare folks by their false teachers and their false teachings!

• all from "angels" (of light) ... (see tract)
• used KJV in those days still - but started to add notes of 'their' teachings to the bible margins, etc.
• still talked 'Jesus'
• BUT - had to add books separate from the Bible!
• had to wrongly divide to maek up contradictions to prove their teachings were 'biblical.'

Scholarship /  religion grew on Jesus 'teachings'

• brought in oriental satanistic eastern religious teachings
• changed words and doctrines within the bible
• denied the Diety of Jesus Christ

• Gospel emphasis - Jesus teachings to the Jew now taught that it is to everyone
• Acts 1-8 - pentecostal flavour throughout America today
• Hebrews to Jude - used as guilt and pressure tactics to 'serious Christians' - honorable and devout!
• Attract through fear of Revelation - cults major attraction
• Ignored Paul's teachings - totally! - almost everyone is ignoring Paul's gospel these days.

In the mean time - Amos 8:11-13 gets closer and closer!  The preaching of truth is dying in the process of that church battle!
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:  And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

I Corinthians 13:8-10 -  Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

• let themselves be led after the flesh - more and more led IN the flesh
• Acts 2:16-20 - wrongly applied today instead of pre-Paul or Tribulation - But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:  And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

• losing to their church
• losing to music
• losing to flesh
• losing to children's demands
• losing to self
• losing to love of money

• have no local church anymore
• have few friends, if any, for fellowship and encouragement and even 'help!'
• yet most have little ability to live on KJB only
• kids are their final war zone (Amos 8:13 -  In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.)

Paul's Jesus is not:

• the Gospel Jesus only
• the 7th Day Jesus who didn't wash away ALL their sins
• the Mormon Jesus who is the brother of Satan and who won't pay for all your sins
• the Lutheran Jesus - must be baptized in water to get him
• the Methodist Jesus - the social savior
• the Catholic Jesus - must eat and drink him
• even the Baptist Jesus - was a baptist himself and must follow the baptist distinctives
• most missionary Jesus' - who preach a Great Commission without the signs and wonders, etc.
• the Pentecostal Jesus - must speak in tongues and follow his signs  - and give your life to him...
• the Rick Warren Jesus - building a million man army to conquer right along with the antichrist in Revelation 6.

• Christ Jesus
• the Risen Jesus
• the one who imputes HIS righteousness instead of ours
• the One who speaks to us through that King James Bible

A true Bible Believe is having to learn the true Christian walk looking forward to I Thessalonians 4:15-18 - For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Psalm 9:17 - The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.
Psalm 119:14-16 - 14: I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.   I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.  I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Proverbs 4:5 -  Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
