Our Inheritance
- Can We Lose It?
|
Eternal life is more than just 'going to heaven when you die!'
Eternal life is more than the rewards received at the 'judgment seat
of Christ!'
There is an inheritance, as well - not based on our works, but on God's
grace and mercy, etc.!
Can we lose that inheritance based on our walk today?
Matthew 21:33-46

Parable - They tried to 'steal' the inheritance for themselves!

Trying to earn it by works!
-
Trying to keep it by works!
-
Inheritance isn't earned and can't be stolen!
See I Peter 1:4 to
describe!
-
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled,
and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
-
incorruptible
-
undefiled
-
fadeth not away
-
reserved but... that is the Tribulation
-
salvation revealed in the Millennium - see verse
5 - also called kingdom of Christ!
-
Note - verses 6-14 shows the 'hope
to the end' and tribulation fact that salvation can be lost and lost eternally!

I Peter 2:21 - For
even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving
us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

I Peter 3:12 - For
the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto
their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

I Peter 4:19 - Wherefore
let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of
their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
How About Us Today?
God is able to give us the inheritance through his word of grace!

Acts 20:32 - And
now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which
is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among
all them which are sanctified.

His word of grace builds us up!

Philippians 1:6 -
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work
in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

His word of grace gives us an inheritance!

...to give you an inheritance among all them
which are sanctified.
Obtainable from Christ

Ephesians 1:10,11 -
That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together
in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on
earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being
predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after
the counsel of his own will:

Ephesians 1:4,5
- According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated
us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according
to the good pleasure of his will,
Paul will help us receive that inheritance

Acts 26:18 - To
open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the
power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and
inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

Paul - our light!

Acts 13:47 - For
so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of
the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the
earth.

Unsearchable riches - include inheritance - fellowheirs!

inheritance in the saints,

Ephesians 3:1-8 - For
this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye
have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to
you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as
I wrote afore in few words, Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my
knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which in other ages was not made known
unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and
prophets by the Spirit; That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs,
and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:
Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God

is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased
possession, unto the praise of his glory.

with that holy Spirit of promise,

of redemption.
God made us meet to be...

thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in light:

he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain

foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of

are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Can we lose any/our inheritance based on:

Compare these to Paul's teachings on the circumcision
of Christ, doctrine of imputation, etc.

I Corinthians 6:9,11 -
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?
Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor
effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous,
nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom
of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified,
but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of
our God.

I Corinthians 15:50 - Now
this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of
God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

Galatians 5:19-21 - Now
the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations,
wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings,
and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you
in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom
of God.

variance - In a state of dissension or controversy;
-
sedition - a rising or commotion of
less extent than an insurrection - but a tumultuous assembly of men rising
in opposition to law or justice, etc.

emulations - n. The act of attempting to equal
or excel in qualities or actions; desire of superiority, attended with
effort to attain to it; generally in a good
-
sense, or an attempt to equal or excel others in
that which is praise-worthy, without the desire of depressing others. In
a bad sense, a striving to equal or do more than others to obtain carnal
favors or honors.

Ephesians 5:3-5 - But
fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named
among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking,
nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For
this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man,
who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of
God.

Galatians 3:18 - For
if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave
it to Abraham by promise.

Galatians 3:21,22 -
Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had
been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should
have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that
the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Hebrews 11:8 - By
faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should
after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing
whither he went.

Remember - We are sealed - the earnest just waiting
...!
Lose the "Reward of the inheritance?"
-
Colossians 3:23-25 - And
whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing
that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye
serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong
which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Has to be Judgment Seat of Christ

I Corinthians 3:10+.

gain or lose rewards - again, based on works - good or bad!
-
The 'reward of the inheritance' would have to be a 'part' of the inheritance
package - otherwise, the teaching of being able to lose the inheritance
would be totally against Paul's teachings and a rightly divided KJB!!
