Beloved, now are we the sons of God,
and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that,
when he shall appear, we shall be like him;
for we shall see him as he is.

The best way to understand this sermon, as for all of them, is to hear the audio sermon.

Basic verses and comments are as follows:

There is no doubt that this is a Tribulation verse.  This is verse is NOT a  verse we can use to ourselves.

See I John 4:17.

Read the verse slowly and closely.  When he SHALL appear, we SHALL be like him...  they will be like him already when He appears.  They will have to be - they have to be holy in their walk.

They shall see him as he is... holy!

Of course!

See Hebrews 12:10 - they will have to be partakers of his holiness.  Of course!

When this was spoken and written, they did NOT know what they would be - but because of Paul, we DO know today!

See John 1:11,12 - they received Christ then by believing that he was the Messiah - THAT Christ.

We receive far more when we hear, believe and trust!

PS - Note that the need to be like him is what is used today in the modern Bibles when they say to 'imitate' Christ - a message being spoken today that is only to be spoken in the Tribulation.
