The
Heart
According to Paul
I II |
Part I - a.m.
Part II - p.m.
Let's look at what Paul preaches and teaches to
us about the heart.
Old Testament FOR us
There is wisdom about the heart in Proverbs,
of course. 82 verses
There is plenty about the heart in Psalms
- 131 verses
There is plenty in the Gospels
about the heart - 60 verses
There are 23 verses on the heart in the Tribulation books.
There are only 3 verses in the Book
of Revelation about the heart!
Here is Old Testament that you will recognize
as being preached today.
Acts Chapter 8
-
This is old testament application!
-
13 - ...beholding
the miracles and signs that were done.
-
16 - ...baptized
in the name of the Holy Ghost - but not having received the Holy Ghost
yet.
-
17 - Then laid
they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
-
25 - ... preached
the gospel
-
18-20 - tried
to buy the Holy Ghost with money
-
The standard 'guilt' message heard in most
'serious' Christian pulpits!
-
21,22 -
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not
right in the sight of God.
-
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and
pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
-
For I perceive that thou art in the gall of
bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
-
Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the
Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon
me.
-
Look at Acts 8:37.
-
All say this is the beginning of Christianity!
-
Taken out of modern Bibles.
-
But... "I
believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."
-
Not a salvation or even a 'baptism' message
at all today.
-
Jewish message, not TO us!
-
Matthew 16:13-18 -
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,
saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said,
Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias,
or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that
I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son
of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art
thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee,
but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That
thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates
of hell shall not prevail against it.
But let's zero in with the simplicity that is in
Christ by looking closely at the heart according to Paul.
The Heart - according to Paul
-
Acts 16:14 -And
a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira,
which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that
she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
-
Heart opened by the Lord!
-
Attended unto the things which were spoken of
Paul.
-
Today - the Lord through the KJB - the word
of God - opens the heart to get folks to attend unto the things which are
spoken of Paul!
-
Hebrews 4:12,13 - For
the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints
and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all
things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
-
Ephesians 6:17b
- ... and the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God.
-
I Thessalonians 2:13 -
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received
the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of
men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh
also in you that believe.
-
Ephesians 1:13 -In
whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed
with that holy Spirit of promise,
-
Acts 5:33 - Today,
it is the KJB that cuts to the heart!
-
Acts 7:54 -
Today, it is the KJB that cuts ot the heart!
-
Acts 16:14
-
The KJB opens the heart (Spirit of God's sword)
-
The KJB will show us the things which were spoken
of Paul.
-
The Jews did not understand because the
heart of this people is waxed gross...
Acts
28:27
-
The lost world today has a heart problem!
-
Romans 1:21 - Because
that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful;
but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
-
foolish heart was darkened
-
Romans 1:24 - Wherefore
God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts,
to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
-
lusts of their own hearts
-
Romans 2:5 - But
after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath
against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
-
hardness and impenitent heart
-
Romans 16:17,18 -
Now
I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary
to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are
such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good
words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
-
hearts of the simple deceived - by the mind (good
words and fair speeches!)
-
Jeremiah 17:9 -The
heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know
it?
-
It has to be changed somehow!
-
How did their heart become so desperately wicked;
so darkened and so hard and inpenitent ?
-
II Corinthians 4:4 - In
whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe
not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image
of God, should shine unto them
-
Blinded minds, not hearts.
-
Bad hearts are the result of a blinded mind!
-
No mind of Christ - no KJB!
-
He tries to keep the seeds from taking heart
-
Luke 8:11,12 -
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way
side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word
out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Is it a heart
problem for Christians today
concerning Jesus' teachings
to Paul to us?
doctrine? reproof?
correction? instruction in righteousness?
The new Christian "walk" to please
God?
The change in our lives?
The turns?
etc.
Our Goal
-
I Timothy 1:5 - Now
the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good
conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
-
pure heart
-
good conscience
-
unfeigned faith
Even from Peter
-
Acts 15:7-9 - And
when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them,
Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among
us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and
believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving
them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between
us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
-
Peter learned in Acts 10 while in a
trance.
-
Jews - purify by works!
-
see Psalms and Proverbs
- verses galore!
-
Gentile hearts purified by faith!
-
Ephesians 3:16,17 -
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened
with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your
hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
-
Philippians 4:7 - And
the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus.
We hear the word of faith!
-
Salvation is by the heart!
-
Romans 6:17 - But
God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from
the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
-
Romans 10:8 - But
what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart:
that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
-
Romans 10:9,10 - That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
As did Paul's preaching, today the KJV exposes the counsels of our heart!
-
I Corinthians 4:5 - Therefore
judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring
to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels
of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
-
Hebrews 4:12,13
- For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged
sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of
the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of
the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight:
but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have
to do.
-
I Corinthians 14:23-25 - If
therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak
with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers,
will they not say that ye are mad? But if all prophesy, and there
come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all,
he is judged of all: And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest;
and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God
is in you of a truth.
Aha - Unbeliever OR UNLEARNED!
That means a Christian CAN have a heart problem, too,
eh!
We can turn aside from the final objective...
-
I Timothy 1:5 and
6 - Now the end of the commandment is charity
out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
-
heart problems
-
blow the conscience
-
err, etc. from the faith
Christians can blind their own heart!
-
Remember - Satan blinds the minds of the lost...
which affects their hearts! (see above)
-
II Corinthians 11:4 -
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe
not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image
of God, should shine unto them
-
However, Christians have their hearts blinded by
their own ignorance, which makes it a mind issue!
-
Ephesians 4:17-19 - This
I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as
other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding
darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that
is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling
have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness
with greediness.
-
How do Christians blind their own heart?
-
Ephesians 4:20,21
-
But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be
that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in
Jesus:
-
Drop the KJB - don't read, do not study, do not believe, do not rightly
believe, ignore Paul's teachings from Christ, etc.
-
Remember what Paul said in Romans 7:23
- But I see another law in my members, warring
against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of
sin which is in my members.
-
His battle was with his mind and flesh - not the spirit nor the heart!
-
HIS MIND, not his heart!
Part II
Evening service sermon
KJB hath shined in our hearts and should continue to shine!
-
II Corinthians 4:5,6 -
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your
servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out
of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Our walk - from our heart as we read the KJB!
-
II Corinthians 5:12 -
For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory
on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in
appearance, and not in heart.
-
There are those who glory in appearance, and not
in heart!
-
Colossians 3:23 - And
whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
Will establish our "hearts" unblameable!
-
I Thessalonians 3:13 - To
the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God,
even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
Will finish the work He has begun!
-
Philippians 1:6 - Being
confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you
will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
-
Through the KJB, of course.
-
I Thessalonians 2:13 -
... ye received it not as the word of
men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh
also in you that believe.
-
Galatians 2:20,21 -
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the
faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not
frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then
Christ is dead in vain.

the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And

love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
