The
Entire King James Bible is written FOR us, but it is not all written TO

We
learn from the "For" and study Paul's writings to apply the 'TO!"

Today's
Confusion Concerning True Godliness |
This first part will show you how Christianity is viewed today
-
1) if they try to look at the Bible;
-
2) if they do not rightly divided the word of truth, both of which are
not done today.
The second part of the sermon will show that the conclusion and fruit of
this Great Commission approach produces a false concept of 'Godliness'
- which results in confusion, frustration, bitterness, pride and conceitness
as well as all the imitation that comes from today's bibleless Christianity.
The following series of Scriptures
is the False Teaching of the 'gospel' if this is what is taught today!
And in most Bible Believing churches, this is exactly what is taught!
Jesus is 'their' Saviour according to these verses
-
John 3:3 -
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except
a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
-
John 3:16 -
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
-
Matthew 16:15,16 -
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered
and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
-
I John 5:1-5 -
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every
one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and
keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments:
and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh
the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our
faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that
Jesus is the Son of God?
-
I John 4:14, 15 - And
we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour
of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God,
God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
The believe that Jesus will lead people to a life of no sin!
-
John 14:15 - If
ye love me, keep my commandments.
-
John 14:21 - He
that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and
he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and
will manifest myself to him.
-
Jon 15:10 - If
ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept
my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
They are told to follow Jesus and His teachings!
-
Matthew 28:19-20 -
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe
all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world. Amen.
-
Mark 16:15-21 -
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel
to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall
follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall
speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they
drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on
the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken
unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of
God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working
with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
-
Matthew 10:38 - And
he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of
me.
-
Matthew 19:21 -
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast,
and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come
and follow me.
-
I John 2:1-6 - My
little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if
any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also
for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know
him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and
keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But
whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby
know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself
also so to walk, even as he walked.
They will be a child of God if they do.
-
Matthew 5:9 - Blessed
are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
If they do NOT follow Him properly, they may end up not a child of God.
-
I John 3:7-9 - Little
children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous,
even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the
devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested,
that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God
doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin,
because he is born of God.
-
I Corinthians 11:28-30 - But
let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink
of that cup.
For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily,
eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
So then, if people do 'sin,' they must confess their new sins...
-
I John 1:9,10 - If
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned,
we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
After you are cleansed and your fellowship with
God has returned, now - TRY HARDER!
They say you really don't want to be ashamed at his coming
-
I John 2:28 -
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we
may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye
know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness
is born of him.
They totally believe that you can and ought to be able to follow Jesus'
teachings - greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world...
-
I John 4:4 - Ye
are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is
he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
They believe they shall know in their hearts!
-
I John 4:5-6 - :
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world
heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is
not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the
spirit of error.
-
I Corinthians 2:9-16 (one of the few
times they use Paul...)
They say they are anointed with the Holy Spirit!
-
I John 2:27: But
the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need
not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all
things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye
shall abide in him.
We ought to love one another - God is love, ya know...
Go to church every time the doors are opened!
-
Hebrews 10:25,26 - Not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
For
if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth,
there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Obey your pastor, "Or else..."!
-
Hebrews 13:7 - Remember
them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of
God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.
-
Hebrews 13:17 - Obey
them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch
for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with
joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
God may chasten you if you don't follow peace with all men, and holiness!
-
Hebrews 12:6-15
-
Revelation 3:19 - As
many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Remember, the devil is out to get you, too!
-
I Peter 5:8 - Be
sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
And if you lose it, you can't even get it back.
-
Hebrews 6:4-6 - For
it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of
the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have
tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they
shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify
to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Our life could even be worse than before we were saved...
-
II Peter 2:20,21 - For
if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge
of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein,
and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For
it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness,
than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered
unto them.
Now, for the serious 'believers,' here comes the results of that teaching
today - the preach the command for holiness and godliness:
-
II Peter 3:11 - Seeing
then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought
ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
-
Read 12
for a another obvious give away that this book is NOT written TO us today!
However, now for
us "rightly dividers," let's bring Paul onto the scene.
-
He talks about godliness, too
-
Titus 2:12 - Teaching
us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly, in this present world;
-
I Timothy 2:1-3 - I
exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions,
and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that
are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness
and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
-
I Timothy 4:8 - For
bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all
things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to
come.
-
I Timothy 6:11 -
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Yes, we are to be concerned how we 'behave.'
-
I Timothy 3:15 -But
if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself
in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar
and ground of the truth.
But what does it mean that we should follow
"godliness?"
Does it mean that whatever we do, that is what
makes us more or less a godly person?
Does it mean the more good and right we do, the
more godly we are?
Does it mean the less good and right we do, the
less godly we are?
The word we will study today
is...
"GODLINESS"
A person's godliness always appears to be on trial today.
-
We hear all the time that we must look right, talk right, do right, parent
right, clean right, cook right, answer right, eat right, homeschool right,
entertain right, rest right, read right, study right, shop right, drive
right, walk right, laugh right, pray right, give right, receive right,
do your hair right, dress right, etc.
And "Yes!" there is truth to those things as we are to do and
be as Christians.
But do they define godliness?
Everybody seems to have their own standards of godliness!
-
Many base their standard of godliness compared to someone else 'worse'
then themselves.
-
II Corinthians 10:12 -
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with
some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves,
and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
-
Or just do whatever they think is 'right.'
-
Romans 10:3 - For
they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish
their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness
of God.
What has happened to:
-
Romans 14:10 -
But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy
brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
-
Romans 14:3 - Let
not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which
eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
-
Romans 14:13 -
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather,
that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's
way.
-
I Corinthians 10:29 - Conscience,
I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of
another man's conscience?
Paul says in I Corinthians
4:3,4 - But with me it is a very small
thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge
not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified:
but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
As we attempt to live 'godliness,' have we ignored Paul's question in
Galatians
3:2,3? This only would
I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the
hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit,
are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
Does being godly mean 'doing good?"
Does being ungodly mean 'doing bad?"
Do we just have to follow Paul's teachings
in his Epistles instead of Jesus' teachings from the gospels
in order to be proper in our godliness?
I Timothy
3:16 Defines Godliness!
And without controversy great is the mystery
of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh, justified
in the Spirit, seen of angels,
preached unto the Gentiles, believed on
in the world,
received up into glory.
God was:
manifest in the flesh
justified in the Spirit
seen of angels
preached unto the Gentiles
believed on in the world
received up into glory
Interesting note: The word "godliness" is not found in the Old
Testament OR in the gospels!
-
Interesting observation, eh!
-
Godliness didn't exist before Paul's time!
-
It is a 'belief' - a truth in itself - it is a fact that God has provided
- an understanding
-
It is the essence of what Paul preaches.
-
We live to please God, not to "become" godly based on OUR works, etc.
-
Godliness is NOT up to me - it is from God!
-
It is because of this godliness that we do what we do in learning to live
to please God - to do right, etc.
-
But we don't do ______ so that we can be considered godly!
-
It is how we are established and comforted concerning our faith!
-
I Thessalonians 3:2 -
And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer
in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning
your faith:
