We learn from the "For" and study Paul's writings to apply the 'TO!"

Today's Confusion Concerning True Godliness

This first part will show you how Christianity is viewed today

The second part of the sermon will show that the conclusion and fruit of this Great Commission approach produces a false concept of 'Godliness' - which results in confusion, frustration, bitterness, pride and conceitness as well as all the imitation that comes from today's bibleless Christianity.

The following series of Scriptures is the False Teaching of the 'gospel' if this is what is taught today!
And in most Bible Believing churches, this is exactly what is taught!

Jesus is 'their' Saviour according to these verses

The believe that Jesus will lead people to a life of no sin! They are told to follow Jesus and His teachings! They will be a child of God if they do. If they do NOT follow Him properly, they may end up not a child of God. So then, if people do 'sin,' they must confess their new sins...
After you are cleansed and your fellowship with God has returned, now -  TRY HARDER!

They say you really don't want to be ashamed at his coming

They totally believe that you can and ought to be able to follow Jesus' teachings - greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world... They believe they shall know in their hearts! They say they are anointed with the Holy Spirit! We ought to love one another - God is love, ya know... Go to church every time the doors are opened! Obey your pastor, "Or else..."! God may chasten you if you don't follow peace with all men, and holiness! Remember, the devil is out to get you, too! And if you lose it, you can't even get it back. Our life could even be worse than before we were saved... Now, for the serious 'believers,' here comes the results of that teaching today - the preach the command for holiness and godliness:
However,  now for us "rightly dividers," let's bring Paul onto the scene. Yes, we are to be concerned how we 'behave.'
But what does it mean that we should follow "godliness?"
Does it mean that whatever we do, that is what makes us more or less a godly person?
Does it mean the more good and right we do, the more godly we are?
Does it mean the less good and right we do, the less godly we are?

The word we will study today is...
"GODLINESS"

A person's godliness always appears to be on trial today.

And "Yes!" there is truth to those things as we are to do and be as Christians.
But do they define godliness?
Everybody seems to have their own standards of godliness! What has happened to: Paul says in I Corinthians 4:3,4 - But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

As we attempt to live 'godliness,' have we ignored Paul's question in Galatians 3:2,3  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?  Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Does being godly mean 'doing good?"
Does being ungodly mean 'doing bad?"

Do we just have to follow Paul's teachings in his Epistles instead of Jesus' teachings from the gospels
in order to be proper in our godliness?

I Timothy 3:16 Defines Godliness!

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels,
preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world,
received up into glory.

God was:
manifest in the flesh
justified in the Spirit
seen of angels
preached unto the Gentiles
believed on in the world
received up into glory

Interesting note: The word "godliness" is not found in the Old Testament OR in the gospels!
