Looking at 'God' in the Scriptures,
with emphasis on Paul, of course,
we look at the Book
of Galatians.
Today, we look at what Paul said
says to the church of Galatia about God.
Chapter
One
Opens with
Grace from God
1. As he always does,
He opens up his letters with
verse 3
- GRACE BE TO YOU and peace from God the
Father... AND from our Lord Jesus Christ,
Will of God
2. And quickly throws
in the simple fact that it was the will of God to deliver us from this
present evil world - and by His own deliverance of us from our sins.
-
vs 4 - Who
gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil
world, according to the will of God and our Father:
-
He first tried to show them how to stop
sinning - with the law!
-
He then tried to have them stop sinning
by following Him while He was on the earth - manifest in the flesh, etc.
-
He then finally just did it for us -
by offering Himself!
-
Now Paul sees the church of Galatia
suddenly turning away from what they first believed!
3.
Glory to God and our Father!
-
vs 5 - To
whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
vs
6-9 - I marvel that ye are so soon removed
from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel ...
4. Paul marvels at
their backsliding away from God.
-
It was God that called them into the
grace of Christ...
-
But now they are removing themselves
unto another gospel!
5.
So, he asks them this great question!
-
vs 10a -
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I
yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
6.
He then states his reasoning that his gospel is not from man!
vs 11-23
-
We also know he says about the word
of God - it is not from men!
-
...not as
the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually
worketh also in you that believe -
I Thessalonians 2:13
-
Paul called from his mother's womb -
to reveal his Son in him - verses 15,16
-
to preach him among the heathen - that's
us - Gentiles!
-
A fact that was always hidden
- Ephesians 3:5
-
callings?
during Paul's time.
-
Today, from reading
your Bible, we know what we are called to do!
7.
All to glorify God!
vs 24 -And
they glorified God in me.
-
IN HIM!
-
IN THIS KJB TODAY!
-
I Corinthians
13:10
-
Is God glorified
out of YOUR KJB?
-
IN US?
-
IN ME?
-
Do you personally
seek to please God? or men?
-
don't be concerned
about anyone else!
-
You want someone
else to please God?
-
Then be the example,
not the talker!
Chapter
two
God is not
impressed with "somewhats"
vs 6 -
But
of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no
matter to me: God accepteth no man's person:) for they who seemed to be
somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
-
We learn that
God is not impressed by 'biggies.'
-
Romans 2:11
- For there is no respect of persons with
God.
-
Ephesians 6:9
- And, ye masters, do the same things unto
them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven;
neither is there respect of persons with him
-
Colossians
3:25 - But he that doeth wrong shall receive
for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
-
Neither was Paul
-
Are we intimidated
by those who seem to be somewhat?
-
professors - pastors
- speakers - high office folks - rich - with happier families than yours
- bigger and better lifestyles, etc.?
-
Proverbs 29:25
- The fear of man bringeth a snare: but
whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
-
But in fact, the
big 'somewhats' DID come to believe it all, too!
-
They saw something
that most don't / won't see or believe today!
-
7-9:But
contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed
unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that
wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the
same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) And when James, Cephas, and
John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto
me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we
should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
A
few more quick things to learn about God that Paul taught to the churches
of Galatia...
We are to
live unto God!
-
Galatians 2:19
-
Obvious from previous
verses, eh.
-
Not living unto
man, but unto God!
-
Even have to turn
away, have no company with, withdraw thyself from when necessary!
The
blessing of Abraham
-
Abraham believed
God!
-
Galatians 3:6-9
-
Romans 4:20-25
-
for our justification
-
Romans 4:25
-
Galatians 3:10-14
Children
of God - us!
-
Galatians 3:26
- For ye are all the children of God by
faith in Christ Jesus.
-
Not Jesus teaching
in the Gospels
-
Matthew 5:9
- Blessed are the peacemakers: for they
shall be called the children of God.
Lost
do not know God and God doesn't know them!
-
Galatians 4:8,9
- Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye
did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that
ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the
weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?
-
Matthew 7:22,23
- Many will say to me in that day, Lord,
Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out
devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess
unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Once
again, Paul asks what he initially asked them!
-
Galatians 4:9
- But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how
turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again
to be in bondage?
God
is not mocked!
-
Galatians 6:7
- Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
-
Romans 14:11
- For it is written, As I live, saith the
Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
-
Philippians
2:10 - That at the name of Jesus every
knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under
the earth;
-
The lost have
their white throne
-
Romans 2:5,6
-
Revelation
20:11-15
-
they will die
in their sins
-
Could not please
God, no matter how good their works were!
-
Romans 8:8
- So then they that are in the flesh cannot
please God.
-
The saved have
the Judgment seat of Christ
-
I Corinthians
3:12-15
-
Romans 14:10
-
II Corinthians
5:10
-
no sin in us to
be judged
-
no sin imputed!
-
Romans 4:23
- Now it was not written for his sake alone,
that it was imputed to him;
-
Romans 4:24
- But for us also, to whom it shall be
imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
-
Romans 5:13
- (For until the law sin was in the world:
but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
-
our works will
be judged.
-
we are dead to
the law and dead to sin!
-
Galatians 2:19
- For I through the law am dead to the
law, that I might live unto God.
-
Romans 6:2
- God forbid. How shall we, that are dead
to sin, live any longer therein?
PEACE
according ...!
Galatians
6:16 - And as many as walk according to
this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God
-
according to what
rule?
-
being a new creature!
-
look back one
verse to Galatians 6:15
- For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision,
but a new creature.
-
II Corinthians
5:17 - Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are
become new.
-
Philippians
4:9 - Those things, which ye have both
learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace
shall be with you.
-
But note -
...peace & mercy be upon THE ISRAEL OF GOD
-
if they would
only walk according to Paul and the Risen Saviour!
