Let us learn from Jeremiah on serving strange gods.

• Are we still serving some strange gods?
• Still fighting Paul's ways, etc.?
• Do you know the story of Jeremiah 13:1-10+
• Jeremiah 13:10 - This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
• Praise the Lord that we don't have to sweat the consequences of being like these people!
• But still... to be a "good for nothing" Christian today...
• ... after all Christ has done for and to us?

Shame on us!

• Isaiah 37:19 - And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

• Jeremiah 2:11 - Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods?  but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
• Romans 1:21-23 - Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

• Jeremiah 2:28 - But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee?  let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.
• Jeremiah 11:12 - Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.
• Lumbermans, Home Depot, Hollywood, Robin Williams, your job, striving for retirement, debt, the mall, your favorite store, television, soap operas, movies, your looks, your education, religion, science, your kids, etc.
• Will they come to your rescue when things get rough?

• Jeremiah 5:19 - And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us?  then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

• Jeremiah 11:10 - They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.
• Jeremiah 44:5 - But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.

• Jeremiah 13:10 - This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

• Psalm 97:7 -  Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.

• Psalm 16:4 - Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

• Exodus 32:1 - And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

• Exodus 23:33 - They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

• Exodus 23:24 - Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

• Exodus 20:23 - Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.

• Exodus 20:3-6 - Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

• Psalm 44:20,21 - If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out?  for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
