Another Sermon for the Starving Bible Believing Christians All Over the World Wide Web
2006 - Touchet Baptist Church, Touchet, Washington - Pastor Mike Paulson - 2006
Expounding the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:26 - with the Scriptures Rightly Divided - II Timothy 2:15

Sermon Series on Putting Paul's Gospel Into Our Own Family Life
(based on my chart tract)

First comes crucifying our flesh / world...
Galatians 5:24 - And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 6:14 - But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

...then we can rise & live our family life with Him as designed by Him which was then presented to and patterned for us by Paul.
I Timothy 1:16 - Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
Colossians 3:1 -  f ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

We continue to go deeper, just not different.
Remember - a more excellent way!  the way of God more perfectly
The Gift of Grace
Part X
Disputing with the "Anointed?"

Some examples of Proper Disputing:

Acts 15:1,2 - And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
Acts 15:6-12 - Much disputing...
Acts 17:16,17 - Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
Acts 19:1-12 - disputing daily

Why could Paul can dispute with folks, but he says we shouldn't?

See Philippians 2:14,15 - Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

or can we?
Do we just walk away from all situations?

Are there "proper strivings and disputings?"

First: remember this bit of wisdom... Don't be hasty in striving
Proverbs 25:8-11 - Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.  Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:  Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.  A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Second: consider this:  You either reject em or love em!
There are those we are to: 'avoid;' 'have no company with;' 'withdraw thyself;' 'from such turn away;' neither give heed to.'
We either get away from them 'with grace' or we 'tell them with grace because we care for them'

We tell the truth because we love them!
I Thessalonians 2:8 - So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.
They won't like to hear what we have to say:
II Corinthians 12:15 - And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.

And we know that we will be considered their enemy, but we are not to treat them like our enemy.
II Thessalonians 3:15 - Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
Galatians 4:16 - Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
Romans 11:28 - As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

And if they are the enemy...
Romans 12:20: Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

But WE don't strive or contend with them!

Note: that whole section in I Thessalonians 2 is about the walk!  The life of the Christian is the issue that Paul preached with his grace.  Walking to please the Lord!

but note I Thessalonians 2:13For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

They spoke the word of God in their disputings!

Today, we HAVE the word of God for our disputings!

We are to dispute with the Book, not with ourselves / attitudes / anger / loudness, etc.  You know the verses:  II Timothy 2:24-26  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

It must be with and by the Book - the KJB 1611 - rightly divided, of course, meaning Paul's Epistles!
And you know that by the reactions you have received, eh!

Allow me show you what I mean by all this:

Another group we have to 'contend' with is:
"The Anointed"

We have the gainsayers, those with foolish & unlearned questions, genealogies.
We have those who speak with vain and profane babblings!
We have those folks who are of corrupt minds that are destitute of the truth that try to cause envy and strifes with questions and strifes of words and perverse disputings. They suppose that gain is godliness!
We have the murmerers, the disputers!
We have the worldly Christian - the Christian feeding the lusts of their flesh!
We have the imitators; the deceived and deceiving who are waxing worse and worse!
We have the 'brethren' who walketh disorderly!
We have the childish brethren who still think, speak and understand as a child... that have not put away childish things yet.   I Corinthians 13:11

Anointed
Now we have the modern Christian - the 'anointed' to deal with.

They are more than just the pentecostals - this is the common description of a Christian today!

They claim that THEY are anointed by God when they were 'born again' or when they asked Christ into their heart - or gave their life to Jesus... etc.

And I am sure their pastors have stated this verse - to the acceptance of their followers... they imitate them and consider them to be like a prophet and/or apostle!
I Chronicles 16:22 - Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
Psalm 105:15 - Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

ARE CHRISTIANS REALLY "ANOINTED" TODAY?

Well, many think they are!
They claim 'scripture' too.

Scriptural support
II Corinthians 1:19-24
You see, Paul was!  see "us"vs "your"

but still - do you think it still must be referring to us also?

Big Clue!
It is NO WHERE ELSE IN THE SCRIPTURES TO US TODAY!
(Gospels for anointing healings and Hebrews and James AND I John 2:27-29!

I John 2:27-29 - But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.  And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
Aha!  THIS is where they get their verse to claim an anointing, eh!

So, the answer to the question is NO!

Christians have been taught to think very special of themselves these modern times!

But wait - there is more!

notice that in those Bible days, folks DID have an anointing - they did receive knowledge from God!
I Corinthians 1:5
II Corinthians 4:1-16
Romans 15:14
Acts 17:13
I Corinthians 12:8
I Corinthians 13:2

Here ya go - the fantastic conclusion!
I Corinthians 13:8 - Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
They had it - but... SHALL VANISH AWAY!

That anointed knowledge vanished away when that KJB arrived on the scene!  I Corinthians 13:10 - But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

Today, the anointed is the King James Bible.

Yes, we have the Holy Spirit - and we'd better have --- John 14,16, etc. but to think WE are anointed?
Yes, we have the Holy Spirit - and we are sealed, etc.

But we don't learn anything, receive anything, etc. unless it is FROM that KJB!
Peace, comfort, learning what 'to do,' guidance, direction, your family, God's ways and thoughts, etc.

How do we do things like...
Colossians 1:9-11 - For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

From the 'anointed' Holy King James 1611 Bible!

And the people who believe they are anointed, we have no need to stay with them.
In fact, the Bible says to stay away from them, etc.
It just does - or your kids/family will get sucked up into their teachings and life!

Let the Book contend with them!

P.S.
Do you want a special anointment from God?  Get that King James Bible and read Revelation 3:18 - I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

That anointed Bible will give your eyes an 'anointing' so you can see
what it is that God wants to show you through His anointed word!'
