Expounding the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:26 - with the Scriptures Rightly Divided - II Timothy 2:15

Sermon Series on Putting Paul's Gospel Into Our Own Family Life
(based on my chart tract)

First comes crucifying our flesh / world...
Galatians 5:24 - And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 6:14 - But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

...then we can rise & live our family life with Him as designed by Him which was then presented to and patterned for us by Paul.
I Timothy 1:16 - Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
Colossians 3:1 -  f ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

We continue to go deeper, just not different.
Remember - a more excellent way!  the way of God more perfectly
The Gift of Grace
Part VII
Grace Towards Others

We have talked about Grace in I II III IV V VI and now VII today and VIII tonight.

Preface:

We left Wednesday night with the question:
How can we live peaceably with all men?
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Romans 12:18

So, how do we deal with grace when it comes to "others" - all men?
(and this has direct family application - 'others' meaning our children, teens and grown young adults)

Are we to give them "blanket grace," remembering those who gave us grace in our past?
Do we have grace for them or do we just expect it for ourselves only?
Do we ignore truth to exhibit grace?
Where do we draw the line?
And as parents, how much 'grace' do we apply towards our kids?  and as husband / wife, etc.

Introduction:

So what does Paul say about 'grace towards others.'

As Christians - we are dead to the law! Romans 7:4
As Christians - we are redeemed from the curse of the law!  Galatians 3:13
As Christians - we are made free from sin! Romans 6:18
As Christians - the law is no longer there for righteousness!  Romans 10:4

But do we tend to go back to the law for others, if not ourselves...?
Galatians 3:3 - Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

In this dispensation of grace, do we just lay out the grace on everyone - even the disobedient, rebellious, lost, gainsayers, etc?
And if so ...  is there still a purpose for the existence of the law?
YES!

To the Lost!
Romans 3:19,20 -Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Galatians 3:21-24  - Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.  But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.  But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

To the Saved!
When we get saved - brought unto Christ - then the 'law' situation changes!
Galatians 3:25 - But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Romans 3:21-31 -  But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;  To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.   Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.  Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:  Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.  Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

As we grow, we become potty trained!
Not just 'fed' by others - guided with holding of hands, etc...
Much more part of the family...
Ephesians 2:11-18

Family grows up tighter together!
Builded together
Geared around dad!
Ephesians 2:19-22

Paul's gospel is all about GROWING UP!
I Corinthians 13:11 - When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Joint heir - at first, the family problems are not theirs, etc.  But when they grow up, well...
Ephesians 1:14: Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

And of course, we know today that it has all fallen apart!
Revelation 3:14-18 - Laodicean church
II Thessalonians 2:2-12 - apostasy
Isaiah 3:4,5 -  And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbour: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable.
Isaiah 3:12 - As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them.  O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Luke 11:21,22 - When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:  But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.

So, are we still to revert back to the oldness of the letter?
Romans 7:6 - But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Sermon Body:

OK, So How Do We Serve in Newness of Spirit?
With Grace!!
Following Paul's words in Philippians 4:9

To us to consider grace towards others - the good brethren - the close and cooperating family!
See part II concerning grace towards those that are childish, disobedient, rebellious, family wreckers, lost and against Christ, the Book, etc.

Singing!
Colossians 3:16 -  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
the world should not want music that truly pleases God and Christians should not want music that pleases the world!
a 'new' Christian needs grace in this department, but for how long?  it is a dangerous and deceitful snare of the devil!

Grace reign!
Romans 5:21 - That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
The world will not understand - they think Christ either paid for all in world period - or they think He ignores it all now.  You know, the God loves all concept!

Be strong!
II Timothy 2:1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
Paul's gospel puts forth confidence / boldness!

To every good work!
II Corinthians 9:8 - And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

From our mouth to each other!
Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

A great example of grace!
II Corinthians 8:7 - Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.  ( see verse 1-15  for great example of grace...)

Let grace be the teacher - our testimony to others!
Titus 2:11-15 - For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
But it is NOT true biblical grace that is put forth within today's modern Christianity!

As they try to bring lost folks to the church, they actually preach another gospel, another spirit, another Jesus, false grace full of flattery and false peace!

They ignore truth, His righteousness, living WITH Christ, use of human psychology - and ALL FOR MONEY!  I Timothy 6:9,10 -  But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

From our mouths to hearers - every man!

Colossians 4:6 - Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Romans - Philemon
The words in each epistle of Paul will edify and ministry grace unto the hearers (faith cometh by hearing).

We frustrate the grace of God if we are not a partaker of Paul's grace
and/or if we don't pass on his words - his epistles and
by not having grace ourselves in our testimony!

Let's not frustrate God's grace nor receive it in vain
or hold it back towards others!

We then, as workers together with him,
beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
II Corinthians 6:1
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law,
then Christ is dead in vain.
Galatians 2:21

Yes, let us be thankful to Christ for the grace that He gave us, but also...
Thank you, Paul, for telling us about that grace...
now, who can we tell about it - or just show it to them!

But by the grace of God I am what I am:
and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain;
but I laboured more abundantly than they all:
yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
I Corinthians 15:10
GRACE!

Family Application?
Otherwise, we, along with our wives and children would still be trying to earn it
if we hadn't heard about it!
We surely wouldn't want that, eh!
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot,
or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-27

It is called GRACE WITHIN THE HOME!

BUT... What about the others?
You know, those that are childish, disobedient, rebellious, family wreckers, lost and against Christ, the Book, etc.
See part II tonight!
