Another Sermon for the Starving Bible Believing Christians All Over the World Wide Web
2006 - Touchet Baptist Church, Touchet, Washington - Pastor Mike Paulson - 2006
Expounding the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:26 - with the Scriptures Rightly Divided - II Timothy 2:15

Sermon Series on Putting Paul's Gospel Into Our Own Family Life
(based on my chart tract)

First comes crucifying our flesh / world...
Galatians 5:24 - And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Galatians 6:14 - But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

...then we can rise & live our family life with Him as designed by Him which was then presented to and patterned for us by Paul.
I Timothy 1:16 - Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
Colossians 3:1 -  f ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

We continue to go deeper, just not different.
Remember - a more excellent way!  the way of God more perfectly
The Gift of Grace
Part IX
Grace Towards the Disputers / Strivers / Gain Seekers, etc.

more on disputing with the 'bad' crowd!
The ones weak in the faith!
The ones lacking faith!

This is also applicable to within your family!
the kids, especially.

Parents disputing and arguing with their kids / teens?

Folks - we are mess today - the church (local) / the family!
You know - Laodicean / Apostasy / Isaiah 3, etc.

II Corinthians 12:15-20:
15: And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
16: But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
17: Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you?
18: I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? walked we not in the same steps?
19: Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
20: For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
21: And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

STRIVINGS
II Timothy 2:24-26: And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Doubtful Disputations
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
Romans 14:1

How do we show grace to the disputers - the strivers, etc.

Titus 3:9-11- But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.  A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject;  Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
WHY?   They are unprofitable and vain
See Titus 3:8 for what to do instead - good works - that is what is profitable
II Timothy 2:15,16 -  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.  And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;  Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Why?  their word will overthrow your / family's faith!

See II Thessalonians 3:6-15 - Have no company with him that does not doctrinally rightly divide!   (meaning the "walk" today see verse 4,7, etc.)
Be not weary in well doing - verse 13 - the walk!

I Timothy 1:4 - Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
Why?   - they minister questions, rather than godly edifying (which is in faith - which is what we are to do). II Timothy 2:23 - But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
Why?   - They do gender strifes.

Perverse Disputings

(among the lost - the imitators - the pretenders - the deceived and deceivers who wax worse and worse these days)

I Timothy 6:3-5 - If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

They suppose that gain is godliness!
I Timothy 6:9-10 - But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Why?   Fall into temptation and a snare; into many foolish and hurtful lusts, drown in destruction and perdition; err from the faith; pierce themselves through with many sorrows.

See 11,12 for what to do instead... follow ... and fight...
Continue with 17-19
Trust in the living God - do good - store up a good foundation, etc. -

AVOID (from those that have erred concerning faith)
I Timothy 6:20,21 profane and vain babblings and oppositions of science falsely so called.

Family Application:
I Timothy 6:3-5 sounds like 'self developed and self-educated teenagers' if applied to the family!  If they don't get I Timothy 6:3-5 corrected, they will end up in I Timothy 6:9-10 in their lives and careers - you know... gain will be their only goal in life, yet they will err from the faith and pierce themselves through with many sorrows so that they may achieve 'gain.'

We ought to know, eh parents!

Let's learn from our kids instead of our kids learning from us...
I Corinthians 13:11 - When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Have we put away any childish things yet?

they don't listen to what you said.
they take off to do what you told them to do, but didn't hear HOW you said to do it.
they do it their way.
they do it another way.
they want to do more than you told them to do... should do... can do... allowed...
they jump to the head of the line.
they take more than they were told or what they should.
they hear only what they want to hear.
they are proud
they demand a lot - they know we will responsd instantly
they pretend a lot
their life is centered around themselves AND their toys!
they can never have too many toys
they follow the loudest and wildest and most misbehaving
they are loud
they get out of control
they are disobedient
they can't endure sound doctrine - the way mom and dad told them...
they have to have faith and trust in their parents
they obey at first to 'trick' you then later do it their own way. - II Corinthians 13:7,8  Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.

Conclusion
Etc.  these things are what causes strife and disputings in the home if we allow them to go on!

Grace?  yes, but our grace is to handle those issues as the Scriptures say to handle them!
Grace means to avoid, withdraw from, not give heed to, have no company with, reject.

Those are not our battles!

Those things listed above should not take place within our homes!

Is Pride an issue?
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
Proverbs 13:10

As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them.
O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Isaiah 3:12
