Fall Upon Your Sword
Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith;
lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.
But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid.
So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
I Chronicles 10:4

You can also read the same account in I Samuel 31

Note the following character changes for the purpose of our application to us today:

Philistines - the lost folks in the world
Uncircumcised - the lost folks in the world
Archers - the lost folks in the world - See Ephesians 6:15; I Peter 1:7; Jude 17-19; Titus 1:9

Israel - Us Bible Believing Christians
Saul - you / me
His sons - our children
armourbearer - your pastor

Men of Israel - you men / the close brethren who actually get into the battles
Jabesh-Gilead - Tribulation saints - especially the ones we have witnessed to but will have to wait for the Tribulation to see that we were right

David - Jesus Christ

Note: I Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Note: Hosea 12:10 -  I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

Saul certainly had his problems with God: I Chronicles 10:13,14 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it; And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

Wrongly dividing and wrongly applying this stuff would put the 'threat' and 'guilt' on us today - but God doesn't have to kill us, etc. because we do wrong.  He has taken care of sin, etc. but our walk and our fellowship are still at stake, so this has a great type and application for us spiritually.

The audio story applied to us Bible Believers today!

Read through I Chronicles 10 keeping those 'new' characters in mind for the "up-to-date" applicational story.
Listen to the audio as well for help on the application.

In a nutshell:  The world is following hard after us Christians today.  Most of our sons and daughters have already been taken in and slain by the world's ways.  If we would ever just realize how much of a mess we are in, we would ask our pastor to 'preach' to us and tell us what we need to hear!

Unfortunately, pastors today are worthless armourbearers - they are too afraid to 'tell it like it is!'

So we should either find a pastor who will, or do it ourselves!

As we see by following Paul, we must die to the world, die to our flesh - daily!

We will then see that there are some 'brethren' see how we 'fall upon our sword' - they will then do it themselves as well!  That used to be called REVIVAL in our country.  Now, even the brethren 'mock' and 'challenge' anyone who gets their heart right with God when they get back into their Book - which is how we are to fall upon our sword!

Were you able to see all that within I Chronicles 10?  What a marvelous chapter for us Bible Believers!!
See, folks!  Chronicles isn't all names!!!

After reading/hearing that story, here are some things I challenge you to consider!

Fall Upon Your Sword!

1.  Carry your Sword everywhere!
Matthew 10:34: Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Luke 2:35: (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
Ephesians 6:17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Revelation 19:15: And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

2.  Get your Bible out as often as you can!
    a.  sharpen it by adding and checking your notes!
    b.  handle it by adding and checking your notes and reviewing verses by memory checks, etc.!
    c.  be seen with it (not just for show, but be not ashamed of the gospel!
    d.  show it - share it - tell it!
    e.  practice with it!  look around, see the things of the world and see if you can find some 'counter-verses' in your Bible!
    f.  meditate on it, about it, in it!
    g.  glance at it whenever you can!  Ask God to show you something every time...

3.  Learn to use it better!
    a.  review your rightly dividing
    b.  don't hurt yourself with it (see Colossians 3:24,25)
...don't abuse the grace within it - God forbid, Paul said!
...don't hurt your walk and testimony
        ...don't lose your inheritance
    c.  don't' hurt others with it
...God's testimony of truth and grace!
...choke others - make them gag on your meat!
...offend others by YOUR handling of the sword!
...drive others away from the Book!

4.  Use it!
    a.  on the real enemy!
Titus 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
I Corinthians 2:15  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
Jeremiah 48:10: Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
    b.  on yourself (Hebrews 4:13; II Timothy 3:16)
...examine yourself - II Corinthians 13:5: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
        ...discern between good and evil
Luke 12:56: Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
Hebrews 5:14: But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Ezekiel 44:23: And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.
...to do right and not do wrong
Philippians 1:10: That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
II Timothy 2:15:Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

5.  Ask your pastor/preacher to use the Book - SWORD - (not himself) on you!
II Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
II Corinthians 4:5: For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
Acts 28:31: Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
I Corinthians 1:18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Titus 1:3: But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

If you can't find a pastor who will, then do it yourself! But whatever you do...
FALL UPON YOUR SWORD!

Others will sure to follow!
Hey, you may even see some revival in your family, your church, your community?  the nation?

Well, start with yourself, anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!
