For
bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all
things,
having
promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
This
is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
I Timothy
4:8,9
There
is No Blushing These Days
|
As we begin our trek through Timothy
and Titus - after many many preliminary
"hors d'oeurve" sermons to help prepare us through these do's and
don'ts, let us consider this question:
When we find out we
are not doing something we should be doing...
or are doing something
we should not be doing...
are we like the days
of Jeremiah when folks did their abominations without blushing?
Were
they ashamed when they had committed abomination?
nay,
they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush:
therefore
they shall fall among them that fall:
at the
time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.
Jeremiah
6:15
I am glad that
we don't have to fear the OT 'falling' or being cast down at the 'time
of visitation' (Jeremiah 8:12),
...however...
-
Has our conscience become so seared
that
we do not blush when we see what we should still be 'doing' or 'not doing'
as we look through Paul's teachings? I Timothy
4:1,2 -
Now the Spirit speaketh
expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving
heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy;
having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
-
Can we come out of some this searing?
-
Do you want to come out of that seared
conscience?
-
Have we come out some already?
-
Are you departing from the faith?
-
Have you departed from the faith?
-
Are you giving more and more heed to
seducing spirits and doctrines of devils?
-
Do you speak lies in hypocrisy?
-
If so, you will certainly have a difficult
time, if not even just hate hate Timothy
and Titus.
Or ...are you truly seeking God's
direction in your daily walk that would please God even more now that
you know what that all means by following Paul?
-
I Thessalonians
4:1,2 - Furthermore then we beseech you,
brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of
us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and
more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
-
Philippians
4:8,9 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things
are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever
things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of
good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think
on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received,
and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Well, first of
all...
We know we are
NOT to be ashamed of some things!
As it
is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence:
and
whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans
9:33
For
the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Romans
10:11
Not ashamed...
Rightly Dividing can prevent us
from being ashamed!
-
II Timothy
2:15 - Study to shew thyself approved unto
God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word
of truth.
Hope maketh us not ashamed
-
Romans 5:5
- And hope maketh not ashamed; because
the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is
given unto us.
-
Philippians
1:6 - Being confident of this very thing,
that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day
of Jesus Christ:
Gospel of Christ
-
Romans 1:16
- For I am not ashamed of the gospel of
Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;
to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness
of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live
by faith.
Biblical Final Authority - Beyond
Paul to the King James 1611 today
-
II Corinthians
10:8 - For though I should boast somewhat
more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and
not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
-
II Timothy
2:25,26 - In meekness instructing those
that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to
the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out
of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
-
I Corinthians
13:10 - But when that which is perfect
is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
Sending someone away from your own
personal life
-
II Thessalonians
3:14 - And if any man obey not our word
by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may
be ashamed.
-
Romans 16:17
- Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them
which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have
learned; and avoid them.
Doing Right
-
Philippians
1:20 - According to my earnest expectation
and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness,
as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it
be by life, or by death.
-
II Timothy
1:12 - For the which cause I also
suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have
believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed
unto him against that day.
-
Romans 8:18
- For I reckon that the sufferings of this
present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be
revealed in us.
-
Ephesians 2:10
- For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should
walk in them.
-
Romans 8:8
- So then they that are in the flesh cannot
please God.
-
I Thessalonians
4:1 - Furthermore then we beseech you,
brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of
us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and
more.
We
also can know there ARE things that should be shameful to us!
Not being able to make proper judgments in and among the church family!
(arguments included...)
-
I Corinthians 6:5-8 -
I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you?
no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? But brother
goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. Now therefore
there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another.
Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves
to be defrauded? Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
Long hair on men!
-
I Corinthians 11:14 - Doth
not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is
a shame unto him?
Others not knowing the knowledge of God because we are not telling them.
-
I Corinthians 15:33,34 - Be
not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. Awake to righteousness,
and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your
shame.
Speaking of the unfruitful secret works of darkness!
-
Ephesians 5:11,12 - And
have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove
them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of
them in secret.
Bonus Note: Don't let
the Great Commission / Antioch Church folks put shame on you unnecessarily.
-
These verses are to the folks in the Tribulation!
-
These are not to be applied to us today!
-
Revelation 3:18 -
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be
rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame
of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that
thou mayest see.
-
Revelation 16:15 - Behold,
I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments,
lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
-
I John 2:28,29 -
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we
may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness
is born of him.
Now from Paul To Us Today!
Not trying to SHAME
-
I Corinthians 4:14 -
I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.
Paul is our master builder, not a home wrecker!
-
I Corinthians 3:10 -
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder,
I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every
man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
-
Yet, we can learn from Jeremiah and Nehemiah.
Some things need to GO before the building can really get started!
-
Jeremiah 1:10 -
See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to
root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build,
and to plant.
-
Nehemiah 4:10 -
And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and
there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
That is not the purpose of the King James Bible, either!
-
II Timothy 3:16,17 - All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the
man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
I wonder:
-
Are we ashamed of the Testimony of Jesus Christ?
-
II Timothy 1:8-10 -
Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his
prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according
to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace,
which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made
manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished
death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
-
The risen Christ!
-
Beyond the Crucifixion
-
The Christ that Paul preaches!
-
Are we ashamed of Paul?
-
Romans through to Philemon?
-
How he prayed for us?
-
What he tells us we can do to please God?
-
What he has told us about Christ?
-
The mystery that he has been given to reveal?
-
What he teaches us about the law - how we are dead to it, etc.
-
What he teaches us about Israel and us?
-
The liberty he talks to us about?
-
What he went through for us?
-
He stayed here when he wanted to leave.
-
Philippians 1:23-26 -
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be
with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh
is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that
I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of
faith; That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for
me by my coming to you again.
-
He died.
-
Acts 14:19 - And
there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded
the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing
he had been dead.
-
II Corinthians 1:9 - But
we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in
ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
-
He was beaten, etc.
-
II Corinthians 11:24-30 - Of
the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten
with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and
a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters,
in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the
heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils
in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness,
in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and
nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon
me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak?
who is offended, and I burn not? If I must needs glory, I will glory of
the things which concern mine infirmities.
We ought not be shamed at what we ought not be shamed
at ...
and
We ought to be shamed at what we ought to be shamed at...
But... there is more to this than one might think.
See Part II
We don't have to be like Ezra.
-
Ezra 9:6 - And
said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God:
for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown
up unto the heavens.
Christ became sin for us... these sins are not imputed
to us now, so we can move onward and upward - but we should do that today!
No more nights with the frogs!
