Another Sermon for the Scattered and Starving Bible Believing Christians All Over the World Wide Web
2005 - Touchet Baptist Church, Touchet, Washington - Pastor Mike Paulson - 2005
Learning the way of God more perfectly - Acts 18:

Black Light Christians

Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
Luke 11:35

The body of this death that Paul talks about - what all is in us, anyway?
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;
but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 7:24,25

Paul was tired of his and all the battles 'within' - are you?

WHAT IS IN THAT DEAD BODY?
LOST:
  • body / soul / spirit all in one - no division - no separation!
  • Dead in trespasses and sins (Colossians 2:13) dead in our sins and the uncircumcision of our flesh!
  • Ephesians 2:1-3 - walking according to the prince of the power of the air - note that it is a SPIRIT that leads us in our walk - as well as the flesh in verse 3!
  • In absence of the Holy Spirit, we obviously have our own spirit.  I Corinthians 2:11,13; Zechariah 12:1; Isaiah 54:6; Ecclesiastes 3:21; Job 32:8; Proverbs 20:27
SAVED:
We are his workmanship - Ephesians 2:4-10

1. SOUL
Clean - no sin - etc. Washed in the blood, etc.
our mind serves the law of God

2. SPIRIT
2a. Still have our own - I Corinthians 2:11,13
Zechariah 12:1
Isaiah 54:6
Ecclesiastes 3:21
Job 32:8
Proverbs 20:27
(if we think this way, we are no different than a lost person - walking in the vanity of their mind. - Ephesians 4:17-21

2b. Now we have God's Spirit as well - Romans 8:9,10
I Corinthians 3:16
Ephesians 1:13
Ephesians 3:16
I Thessalonians 4:8
________________________________________________________
Sword of the Spirit cuts away... Hebrews 4:12; Colossians 2:11-12; Ephesians 6:17

3.  FLESH
a dead body - because of sin - Romans 8:10
sins - paid for, gone, judged, etc.  but works of... still must burn  Colossians 3:5,6; Galatians 5:19-21 at judgment seat...
sin dwelleth in...
flesh / blood
...flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God...
I Corinthians 15:50

(P.S. Note that music affects ALL of the above, whether lost or saved)

But there is more...

Yes, Paul does warn us about:
...what you build upon your foundation - I Corinthians 3:10
...your liberty cause someone to stumble - I Corinthians 8:9
...pride - I Corinthians 10:12
...bite and devour one another - Galatians 5:15
...make sure you fulfill your ministry - Colossians 4:17

But... and more importantly today...

Paul warns in II Corinthians 11:4; Galatians 1:6-9
...about someone preaching another Jesus
...receiving another spirit
...accepting "another" and "any other" gospel!

Any other gospel is a perverted gospel and the person who brings that stuff is accursed - don't go with him!

Yes, we always go to I John 4:1-3 to show folks with a false gospel, etc. how to prove their bible,
their church, their sermons, their preaching, the books they read, their walk, etc.
can be of the spirit of antichrist.  Luke 8:12, etc.

But it gets far more serious, folks!
Paul is actually directing those verses
to 'so-called' Christians!

Let's read them more closely - and a few other verses Paul warns about when it comes to this 'another' Jesus, another spirit... towards US!
II Corinthians 11:1-4
Galatians 1:1-9

Now, let's also read the following and see that they really are directly applied TO those who call themselves Christians, also!
I Timothy 1:4 - Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
Titus 1:14 - Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
I Timothy 4:1-7 - Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils...etc.

turn "Christians" from truth
cause them to swerve and turn aside to vain janglings and vain babblings
depart from the faith
minister questions
bear with 'him'
not obey the truth - Galatians 3:1-3
build again their things previously destroyed - Galatians 2:18
brings us into bondage - Galatians 2:4
walk disorderly among us - II Thessalonians 3:11
spoil us - Colossians 2:6-8 (see 20,22)

THIS SPIRIT IS A RELIGIOUS SPIRIT!
(did we have a religious interest when we were lost?)
II Timothy 3:5 - Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
from such turn away - Ecclesiastical Separation (not always an enemy, etc.  II Thessalonians 3:13-15)

OT existence then, why not today...?
familiar spirits
Deuteronomy 18:10,11 - There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,  Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
Leviticus 19:31: Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.
Leviticus 20:6 And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
Leviticus 20:27 - A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
Isaiah 8:19  And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God?  for the living to the dead?
Isaiah 19:3  And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.
Unclean spirit
Matthew 12:43; Mark 1:23; 5:2; 7:25; Luke 4:33, etc.

and when they left, some went back in later - worse than ever!
Luke 11:24,26 - When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.  And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.  Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.

Sure, Jesus did cast them out...
Luke 4:36
Luke 7:21
Luke 8:29

And Paul cast them out, too!
Acts 16:18 -And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

And so, we also need Jesus Christ and Paul to deal with them in and around us today!  But on a daily basis - who do you serve?  who do you follow?  We fight it all through the Book today!  I Corinthians 13:10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

The Great Imitator - can be in us as well as around us!
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
I Peter 5:8
A Strangers Voice - we can listen to ...
when you hearken not unto the voice of the Lord.
(see part II)

Yes, still - even though we are saved - otherwise why would Paul warn us!

We are not to be troubled
II Thessalonians 2:1,2 -  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.  It is going to happen anyway - see verse 3+
II Thessalonians 1:7-10 - And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:  Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;  When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

What Can We Do?
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine...
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them:
for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
I Timothy 4:13, 15-16

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me,
in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
II Timothy 1:13

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
Galatians 5:24-26

Other verses:
Romans 13:12  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Galatians 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Ephesians 4:24  And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Colossians 3:10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Colossians 3:12  Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Colossians 3:14  And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

and so many more...

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Romans 13:14

This spirit can only affect your flesh!

The soul is taken care of and we have the Holy Spirit!

But the flesh is still open for business
for this 'spirit' to play religion!

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;
but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 7:24,25

Make sure you are following the right light!
Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.
Luke 11:35

The correct light!
Psalm 119:104,105  Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 18:28  For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
Psalm 27:1  The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 119:130  The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
