The flowers appear on the earth; the time
of the singing of birds is come,
and the voice of the turtle is heard in
our land
Song of Solomon 2:12 |
Since we have
heard about how the Raven helped Elijah,
we are now going to
see what we can learn from birds.
While this series appears
to be geared towards getting our little children involved,
there will be plenty
for us adults to learn from these birds, too.
Part VII

Bird Food and Precious
Seed
Now
the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Luke 8:11
Look around the church with your
eyes (not your fingers...), these birds seem to have no home!
P.S. - I am no bird expert; these
are just a few things I have read or observed...
NESTS/HOMES
-
God helps birds make nests!
-
And Jesus
saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests;
but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. Matthew
8:20
-
bushes
-
live trees
-
dead trees
-
grasses
-
roadsides
-
power towers
-
roofs
-
gables
-
hillsides
-
inside walls
-
etc.
-
Nests can be big, small, fragile, strong,
obvious, hidden, pretty, ugly, etc.
FOOD/SEED
-
God provides food for birds!
-
Consider
the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse
nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
Luke
12:24
-
worms, insects, etc.
-
dead meat
-
live meat
-
grains
-
seeds
God
also allows us to help Him take care of these birds!
Build birdhouses
-
All different kinds and heights and
colors and designs, etc.
-
Best to help the birds for the Spring
for the birdhouses.
-
Time to begin making their families!
-
Leave nests alone - some birds are known
to return to their original nest.
Put out Feed
-
Put out some good seed
-
Put out millet (white
grain),
-
milo (grain sorghum -
grass),
-
cracked corn,
-
sunflower seeds,
-
suet (beef kidney fat
- some mixed with berries, seeds, etc.),
-
nectar (sugar water),
-
popcorn (no salt and butter),
-
Grit, to aid in the grinding,
birds swallow hard materials such as sand, small pebbles, ground eggshells
& oyster shells (boiled).
-
Bad - some foods such as chocolate,
people food, bubble gum, etc. kills the birds as does old seed that has
developed rot or mold.
-
Water for drinking and washing.
-
Best to help feed in the Fall!
-
getting ready for seasonal weather changes
-
getting ready to migrate
Birds even know "when" to get ready
for Winter.
-
We can even begin
to help now to help them get ready to get ready!
-
We are told by
Paul to prepare for tough times...
-
II Timothy
4:21 - Do thy diligence to come before
winter.
We
are of different flesh than birds, though!
I Corinthians
15:39 - All flesh is not the same flesh:
but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another
of fishes, and another of birds.
-
Well yes, we do also eat seeds...
-
pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, etc.
-
You as little ducklings, goslings, baby
birds, etc. have parents to give you a nest and to give you your seeds
to eat!
But
there is one seed that is precious to all of us!
He that
goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed,
shall
doubtless come again with rejoicing,
bringing
his sheaves with him.
Psalm 126:6
Word of God
-
Precious - There are a few other
things in the Bible that are precious to us - meaning: Of
high cost or worth; valuable; highly esteemed; cherished; dear; beloved.
-
But today, we see the seed as the word
of God.
-
Luke 8:11 -
Now
the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
-
Sheaves:
bundle
of cut stalks of grain or similar plants bound with straw or twine. A collection
of items held or bound together.
Let's look at that parable. We
can learn how the seed, the word of God, can be handled today as it was
told in the days of the gospels.
KJB - the seed!
-
What is the seed today?
-
The King James Bible - each word, each
punctuation, each verse, each capitalized letter and whether given in print
or in a tract or in an oral presentation, Bible preaching sermon or discussion
- all parts of the precious seed - the word of God!
Let's just read through this parable
- a story with a moral lesson - and throw a few comments in there for us
today.
Luke 8
4: And
when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every
city, he spake by a parable:
5: A
sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side;
and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6: And
some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away,
because it lacked moisture.
7: And
some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
8: And
other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold.
And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear,
let him hear.
9: And
his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
11:
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12: Those
by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away
the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13:
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with
joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of
temptation fall away.
14: And
that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go
forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life,
and bring no fruit to perfection.
15:
But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart,
having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
Note verse 14
as it is stated in Matthew and
Mark,
too.
Matthew
13:22 - He also that received seed among
the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and
the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Mark 4:18,19
-
And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts
of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
We
still must recognize that tomorrow will depend
on
how and what we plant and water today!
I have
planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
So then
neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth;
but
God that giveth the increase.
Now
he that planteth and he that watereth are one:
and
every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
I Corinthians
3:6-8
-
Parents, what are we seeing in our garden
these days?
-
Have we been mostly just trying soften
the hard ground?
-
Have we lost some joy we had at first..
-
when first saved;
-
when first KJB;
-
when first Eternal Security;
-
when first rightly divided,
-
when first have seen results and changes
in your life;
-
when first taught something from the
Spirit of God in your own personal reading;
-
etc.?
-
Are we as parents, contributing to the
choking of the seed in your children's future?
-
cares of this world?
-
Do we understand the DECEITFULNESS of
riches?
-
Do we need to spend big money / debt
for the pleasures to bring together the family - to do things together?
-
...or so we just justify our toys as
adults claiming it is really for our kids????
-
What kinds of seeds are being planted?
-
Is watering being done consistently?
-
(weeds grow well from little if any
water...)
-
Or are we trying to plant... (while
we continue to choke the seed in their life)
-
...on stony ground?
-
where the seed appears to be growing
for now, but soon, the seeds will die?
-
...seeds that never make the mark?
-
they are just being devoured by the
fowls of the world - the devil?
-
among the deceitfulness of riches today?
-
among the lusts of other things that
we as parents bring into the home
-
Or are you preparing the ground for
when the seeds do get planted, the ground will be ready for planting and
watering!
Yes, the increase is certainly all
His, but we certainly must:
-
prepare the ground!
-
plant the correct seed properly!
-
keep the seed killer things and predators
away from our little 'birds!'
-
and water with the word of God and manner
of life, etc. consistently and properly!
