Part
XVIII
September

For
bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all
things,
having
promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
This
is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
I Timothy
4:8,9
Acknowledgments
From Behind Closed Doors
|
In
meekness instructing those that oppose themselves;
if God
peradventure will give them repentance
to the
acknowledging of the truth;
And
that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil,
who
are taken captive by him at his will.
II Timothy
2:25,26
ACKNOWLEDGE
To own,
avow or admit to be true!
Can
we go "Beyond Acknowledging?"
-
We must!
-
Our ships and
passengers are depending on us to do so!
I have
one point to make tonight, but a little trail for us to travel on to get
to that point.
Acknowledge:
What Paul
has to say is from God!
I Corinthians
14:36-38
Paul's helpers!
I Corinthians
16:18
Paul's writings
and his helpers!
II Corinthians
1:12-14
Mystery
of God, and of the Father, and of Christ!
Colossians
2:1-3
We must
yet go BEYOND acknowledging!
-
Gospels - today,
not far enough!
-
Tribulation
Today, we must
not just acknowledge Christ, we must:
-
Call upon Him
-
Trust
-
Believe on
NOW,
WE MUST ALSO DO SOMETHING!
Ephesians
2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created
in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we
should walk in them.
II Timothy
3:17 - That the man of God may be perfect,
throughly furnished unto all good works.
Titus 2:14
- Who gave himself for us, that he might
redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people,
zealous of good works.
I Thessalonians
2:11,12 - As ye know how we exhorted and
comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom
and glory.
Here
is the 'good work' for tonight's sermon!
Acknowledge
the truth
II Timothy
2:252,6
Acknowledge
the truth which is after godliness
Titus 1:1
Acknowledge
every good thing that which is in you in Christ Jesus!
Philemon
1:6
OK?
Got it so
far?
OK!
Now, let's
look back at our first verse:
II
Timothy 2:25,26 - In meekness instructing
those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance
to the acknowledging of the truth;
We will
acknowledge / admit there is still sin in us!
-
not us that does
it
-
but it is us that
chooses to follow it!
Behind
Closed Doors!
In Your Home
Ok, as
fathers - parents, etc. can we acknowledge the damage that our choices
/ actions, etc. do to others?
1)
Cause them to stumble
-
not believe
-
do what you did
-
judgment seat
or white throne?
-
new religion,
another gospel, another spirit and another Jesus!
-
reject God all
together - head to the world to learn not to blaspheme and/or to destroy
their flesh!
-
IT HURTS THEM!
2) Blow
your testimony
Both give God
no glory!
Is that
how we are to do our children?
Is that
how we teach them?
Does it
toughen them up or trip them down?
Is that
how a nurse cherisheths her children? I Thessalonians
2:7:
But we were gentle among you, even
as a nurse cherisheth her children:
Is that
how Paul and his fellowhelpers did us? I
Thessalonians 2:11,12 -
As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you,
as a father doth his children, That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath
called you unto his kingdom and glory.
Imagine
a little old Lighthouse Keeper!
Experience
and learned somewhat...
-
He has learned
from past shipwrecks.
-
He has a great
manual about how to avoid shipwrecks.
-
He knows the Light
will guide them, IF...
Storm
-
In a dangerous
storm - past the fast, as Paul puts it in Acts
27...
Danger
-
He sees ships
that are to close to the rocks - tipping and turning - crew fighting amongst
themselves - captains that are not in the captain's chair - the ship on
it's own, etc. Some crews are just partying with grace and doctrinal
understanding. They know ALL ABOUT STORMS and all the teachings of
their manual. They love the lighthouse and the light that is shining
so brightly.
Blind
-
But are just not
seeing the danger of the rocks...
What to do?
-
What can this
lighthouse keeper do?
-
not to shame,
but to warn!
-
Shine the light
brighter? and brighter?
-
Wave the light
around?
-
Scream and yell
and threaten them?
-
Trimmest his ways
to seek love?
-
Become their enemy?
-
Be loved less
because he cares about them?
IF he actually
gets ON ship to warn the captain, the captain...
-
acknowledge they
are in trouble!
-
acknowledge the
details of the trouble!
-
acknowledge a
new direction!
-
and then GO THAT
WAY!
What can this
lighthouse manager do?
-
Can he get on
board?
-
Should he get
on board?
-
Will they listen
or even consider what he says?
-
Will they make
him walk the plank?
If
they can't see the danger that the light shows, what can he do?
I don't know
- I really don't know.
But I can
see the crashes are coming!
Let them crash?
I suppose
- but the little passengers don't deserve that life!
No, I see what
to do - but will the boat captains let him? Doubtful!
II Timothy
4:3 - For the time will come when they
will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap
to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
